We Bought Two Used Minis, But One Of Them’s a Total Nightmare! Mini Budget Fun EP.1

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Check out our new weekly PODCAST - TFL Talkin' Cars! ( tflcar.com/podcast )
( www.TFLcar.com ) What we have here is a tale of two Minis: A 2010 Mini Cooper S that Tommy bought for $6,000, and a 2013 Mini John Cooper Works GP that Roman bought for just $13,000. While one of them turned out to be a pretty good find, the other ended up being a total basket case. Still, they're both Minis, so are both cars proof you can still have fun on a budget? That's what we're here to find out in this new series!

Ok. I found you by mistake, looking at how to’s for my 2002 R53. I bought my mini with the intent of removing the engine. However the 1st time I drove it it was fun and so responsive compared to my 1970 triumph herald, I fell in love with it. Basically I bought an r53 engine the rest of it albeit old but in excellent condition. I decided to keep the little stunner. I paid £1600. Put a few hundred into it. And a remap. It’s now 200HP. And puts a huge smile on my face. Like my original herald 13/60 does. Both are amazing little runners. I’m now binge watching you and your dad compete. Thanks for sharing

The dash of the GP is coming apart there probably because the airbags deployed and they tried to fix it. It's probably why the airbag light is on. If you look at the shot where they showed it, it looks like the airbag was stuffed back in and they tried to do a cheap repair on it.

  • @ModMINI

That's not where the airbag comes out. Airbag comes out of the rectangular area above the glovebox. There is no stitching damage there. This is either heat/dryness or damage during disassembly.

It was also bloody quick you could put it off the clock round to the zero stop and it was as fast as my mates 1275GT

Tommy don't be afraid of your n14s engine. I have a 2009 Clubman S with the same engine that had 74k in 2018 when I bought it. It was a one owner well maintained vehicle and I have continued on that path as the second owner. I have an excellent affordable MINI master technician that replaced my timing chain and guides before they failed, replaced the vacuum pump as it was leaking, the front main seal and oil pan gasket. Now my MINI is free of any oil seepage and has been trouble free for the past two years with just regular scheduled maintenance like a brake fluid flush, spark plugs and oil service. No problems at all with my coils as they are OEM MINI parts not the cheap Chinese ones that give the reputation of failure. Enjoy your awesome MINI! I can't wait to see your modifications to personalize it. Oh and ECS tuning has great deals on new OEM wheels. I bought a complete set for $500.

Step one is to get rid of those ridiculous 16" wheels on that Cooper S. Go get the OEM 17" JCW Wheels, or get something from BBS, Enkei, or VMR. And then put a set of Pilot Sports on them. That right there will change the look dramatically.

I feel that I got a good deal a 2019 with 8000 miles on it mini Cooper S one owner and it still had 2 1/2 years left on the transferable factory warranty I paid 21,000 whether I paid too much or not I still love it

That 2019 should be a great car. The F series mini is much more reliable than it’s predecessor. I just hit the 100k mile mark on my 2016 Cooper S and by and large it has been trouble free. I had a couple of minor issues but they were fixed under warranty. Not quite the go kart that my 2002 was but a superior daily driver for sure.

the clubman 2008 to mid 2012 are N14 , one easy way to identify are the motor coils, on N14 are visible, the N-18 have a cover on top

For 10k in the U.K. I got a 2016 Mini. That’s 12,000 USD. Which by the way had 33,000 miles, and is a really good spec. That Mini GP was such a rip off!!

I think the question is, buy the Mini or a GTI or Focus ST? Yes they are bigger, but do cost about the same, probably more livable. But are not as quirky.

Long live the manuals! Both the Minis have beaucoup swirl marks! Before you sell the GP I would like to see a video of whether a paint-correction detail shop can remove the swirl marks from the A pillars. Doing just the A-pillars would save money and be better on video because they are more noticeable because they contrast with the body color and are more upright.

"Beaucoup" swirl marks. Like regular swirl marks, but French, thereby inherently more fashionable. (haha)

  • @TheTonytodd

@@ragweedmakesmesneeze, lol. These are not regular swirl marks. The swirls on the GP's driver side A pillar are many and seem deeper than regular hand-wash swirls. And based on the condition of the car itself, this car wash likely punished with machine car washes exclusively without care for paint maintenance. But they are on a fashionable car.

@@TheTonytodd It will definitely be interesting to see what kind of money they are willing to put into these vehicles to improve them. Detailing/paint correction is maybe not on the top of their list, but it will be fun to watch where this series goes!

@@ragweedmakesmesneeze, very interesting to see what they will put into cars they will sell. I can see them fixing the causes of the warning lights. Detailing would be at the bottom of my list, but it would make good automotive video. The reason I suggested doing only the A pillars is hoping they could find a reputable paint-correction company to do it for at no cost just to get the advertisement of the TFL KZread community.

Yeah I know what you mean about the mini Cooper its a awesome driving car I have 2006 mini Cooper 5 speed and my clutch just went out and so 2020 has been a terrible year for me so far first my uncle died and then I thought I was going to lose my aunt as well but thankfully she did get well after a couple months in the hospital and then now one my mini has fallen sick 😷 and with no money to repair the costly expensive clutch repair cost due to this covid19 financially killing my small business I guess I just going to have have to let it be a casualty of covid 19 as well and I watch y'all guys videos all the time specially when you guys do the mountains with trucks sometime I do get your names mixed but have fun with your minis while you can but sadly my fun has ended but I guess that's life
