we bought an a-frame in northern michigan! (needs a lot of work.)

In 2021, we bought land and had plans to build an a-frame cabin in northern michigan. 3 years later and after letting that dream go for a number of different reasons, a 1970's a-frame was listed for sale and drew interest from many people in the area, including us.

We recently purchased a charming 1970s A-frame in Northern Michigan, and we invite you to join us on the renovation adventure of a lifetime. Despite the challenges ahead, we're excited to unlock the full potential of this unique property.
Our journey took an unexpected turn when we discovered the A-frame. Initially, we planned to build one, but fate led us to this hidden gem instead. From the striking vaulted ceiling that adds a spacious charm to the original bathroom with its vintage fixtures, every corner of this property has a story waiting to be retold.
Nestled beside the serene Finch Creek, which adds a moat-like charm to our A-frame, this property offers both privacy and the quintessential Northern Michigan experience.
With spring approaching and a new addition to our family on the way, we're more excited than ever to transform this into a one-of-a-kind A-frame Airbnb in Michigan

Congratulations on the A-Frame! When I saw those orange walls I knew I had seen that house before on Zillow. 😀 My dad started bringing us up to that area in '62 - we usually stayed on Clam Lake at Northaire Resort. Over the past decade or so, the wife and I come up in July for the Boyne Thunder Poker Run; usually we take a day to come down to Torch, to shop in Alden, go to the Dockside for lunch, hit Brownwood Acres and stop for a beer at Short's in Bellaire. You are really lucky to have those properties in what is a truly beautiful region. I'll definitely be following your progress...all the best!

My great aunt (my grandma's sister) lived in an A frame on the Mississippi River when I was kid. In February I bought a 950ish sq foot 1 bedroom A-Frame with 8 acres on a large lake in East Texas and it has the same lay-out and I'm doing the same thing, bedroom and bathroom upstairs and I'm going to rip it out to vault the ceiling and put my bedroom in the back of the house, put the bathroom back in the front and the area in the front will be my living room, I'm a single guy, my 3 kids are grown and out of the house so I don't need a dining room, I have one in the house I live in now and it's just a waste of space, I eat in my living room in front of my t.v. so why waste the space. The back of my house faces the lake and I'd like to wake up looking at the lake plus there's a deck back there if I want to eat by or hang out looking at the lake then I'll just go out there through my bedroom. Every time I go down to work on it all the childhood memories of going to Aunt Roni's house for week every summer come back, I call it my happy place, I hope to be done with it by Christmas so I can move down there after the 1st of year, I retired from the military in 2010 and will hit my 15 year mark (minimum years for retirement) in November of this year and I'm going to take it and move from Missouri to Texas and enjoy my retirement.

Buying an A frame for s rental is the only reason to own one. They are a crap use of space. Viausly very appealing but until you spend alot of time in one there great. I built a gambrel cabin. 20' wide I custom built it my self and the upstairs in that is bad enough. How ever you can still stand up and be 6' in 85% of the up stairs.

They certainly are not the best use of space, but you can make the most of it if you're intentional about it. I did almost all of the work myself on the remodel and the complexity that all of the angles add cannot be understated.

I completely disagree. A-frames are the PERFECT first/last home. They are simple to build, cheaper to build because they require less materials to build, which is a huge deal now because of deforresting and when you get alot of bad weather such as snow/ice and rain they are easier to maintain.

We have no hurricanes, no sharks, no mudslides, no real nature disasters and 4 very distinct seasons. And you can drink the water in the lakes. It's heaven.

Michigan is the greatest state in the nation for more reasons than even an educated person can comprehend, so it's pointless to waste the energy with you. Let's just say here in Michigan we teach our kids not only how to pull together a complete sentence using proper English grammar and spelling, but one that actually makes sense!

@@NorthofNowhere. It is considered northern Michigan. It is northern lower peninsula. Upper Peninsula is a whole other place, possibly shouldn’t even be in Michigan, since it is joined by land nowhere in Michigan.😂

“Up north” could be NE or North or really any where you drive away from metro Detroit to go relax for a weekend. :-)
