We Bought A Sawmill From Ebay!!! Big Mistake?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This was definitely one of our toughest pieces of equipment we have ever put together!! This sawmill came in 2 boxes and hundreds of parts. We ended up spending an entire day just piecing it all together and we finally got a couple cuts made. We are super happy how everything went except the part where the saw band started to pop off. We need to make some adjustments! Stay tuned to see what happens next. Thanks For Watching!!!

I have a portable saw mill. I recommend that you use only water. It is only meant to cool the blade, not lubricate it. If you use any oily substance, it will cause the blade to be slick and slide off the wheels. It will also stain your wood.

I have cut wood for over 5 years and laughed when they said that one...but they are now selling off branded of sawmills for 15 grand so what do I know, train wreck, ..read the instructions it should tell you that..kinda scary funny...Oh blade is sharp caution. watch Norwood video on how to run a saw mill....they make sawmills also... mine is larger and was cheaper that they price they quote and yo had to put it together too, I used my trailer as a work surface to get the frame straight, then slid it off when I got it secured...

I have run this type of saw for over 36 years. Make sure your guide rollers are very close read manual for setting. After you have cut your plank you will need to air dry. Stack the lumber planks with small stickers of the same wood type or you will get a shadow on the boards. Cover stacks with a tarp also after a month or so spray paint on the ends to keep the wood from splitting and stop adding moisture . When installing pilot holes and screws.

Use straight edge across 4 points on pulleys even a string. Torque the bearing bolts to spec. Also make sure pulleys are laterally level. Blade needs to be Torqued to spec. Then there should be a nut you set for the blade, like a jam nut. But it's set so you don't have to retorque every time. Use water and soap. I work in large sawmills and paper plants. I'm a Millwright. I also build portable sawmills.

As the millright stated, proper torque is essential, as is alignment. Then you get to the saw blade. It must be properly set, no flexibility in alignment and tension. A grand to have it properly set up, and learning the ins and outs of sawyers would be extremely helpful for the future.

When you start getting a bunch of that lumber cut, don't forget to let it season. I would highly recommend you put a light coat of paint on each end of the boards you cut before you season them. It prevents the ends from drying out and warping the boards.

Paint the ends of the wood to help with checking (cracks in the end). Stack the slabs on a level surface with small 1x1 or so spacers called "stickers" between them. Let them sit and dry out. If you cut and install them imediatly you will get a lot of movement in the wood causing cracks and warping.

You need to put the blade back on the bandsaw, torque the tension to spec and turn the wheels by hand and adjust it (there is 4 bolt around the metal that hold the shaft of one of the wheel, they are for adjustment) until it stay in the center of the wheel. Adjust the support bearing so it almost touch the blade. I would definitely watch some Bandsaw tuning video if I was you. This can be dangerous, these blades snap and cut arms, so safety first ! Replace the diesel by water, it's just to cool the blade, not lubricate it. Diesel is an oil and we put oil on wood as varnishes !

The lubrication is for when the blade goes thru wood. The blade does not have to be lubricated on the pulleys. If you tension it to the correct specs and its still keeps falling off, i think it would be because of diesel. You should try adding water/dishsoap or water/pinesol. Usually its 1/4 detergent for a tank of water. You can premix a 5 gallon. I usually do 1 1/4 cups of detergent in 5 gallon of water.

You will need to dry that wood to use it. Otherwise it will twist and split. Look online on how to build a passive wood drying kiln. You will also want a moisture gauge to test when it is ready to use. If used for flooring, you will want to let the dried wood settle for a week or more in the conditioned space it will be installed prior to installation.

On all bandsaws the drive wheel is fixed. The other wheel is adjustable. Usually has a knob that adjusts the angle of the wheel. Put on the blade and ajust the tension. Turn the wheels and blade by hand. Turn the adjusting knob until the blade stays in the center of the wheel. Use a straight edge across both wheels to be sure that the are in line with each other.

Just so you know, you need to allow plenty of drying time for any lumber you cut. You need to stack it properly with spacers to allow for ample air flow. General rule of thumb is to allow 1 year per inch of thickness for drying. If you use the wood when it’s still green, you’ll get a lot of shrinkage, warping, twisting and cracking. It may look fine at first, but it’ll start looking terrible and affecting your construction as it dries.

If you are timber framing like they will be, you do not want the wood dry. After the structure is built, the wood will all dry out together resulting in less distortion. You will only want to dry out the wood if you are making slabs or thin boards.

The Wood Mizer sawmill uses a Koehler motor for their engine. The Wood Mizer is a pre assembled unit. It is a professional sawmill. Many people use the Wood Mizer to build their houses and sell wood to the public. Check it out!

If the boys enjoy cutting wood, and they want to keep doing it in the years to come.... For Sure, they should get a Wood-Mizer mill. They are way better quality and they are built in Indianapolis USA. They could sell this lego set mill and get a mill that will last them for decades, and they can cut lumber with it instead of having to tinker with the mill all the time trying to make it cut. Two cuts in, and they are already having to tinker with the mill before they can cut wood. Plus the service and support from Wood-Mizer will not be beat by any other mill manufacturer out there. Cutting your own lumber is so rewarding and fun.
