I am a bit confused by this review. You say it’s a great car, but then you say don’t buy it. Are you saying don’t buy it because FSD won’t happen? If so, then say don’t put up $10k for the thing. Are you saying don’t buy it because of the physical controls? Im a bit confused

Other EVs are good. Unless you want to drive beyond the range of the car, then you want a Tesla for the supercharger network. Volvo XC40 recharge, Polestar 2, Porsche Taycan, Ford Mach E, Hyundai Kona EV are some of the best alternatives if you don't do long trips (or if you use a train for trips)

When I drove a model Y I was amazed at how it took curves. Thought it handled really well so not sure what he's talking about.

He's not comparing it to a honda civic, hes comparing it to other 50k+ cars. Tesla is a tech company really. Their tech is top notch, but building great handling cars takes a lot of experience. The only reason it does decent on the track is the acceleration makes up for the lack of high quality steering. It's not that the steering is bad, just other automakers like porsche and audi are far better when it comes to this because they have been perfecting it for decades. Just go look at how beefy the rear suspension of a 911 is... Tesla is not doing suspension like that on any of their cars.

I had a privilege of driving the Y for a short road trip, two hours to be exact. I drove from upstate New York back to NYC. I felt every single bump as the suspension was extremely stiff. I also heard every single suspension sound on the NY free way. TBH, the Siena or Odyssey is a much better ride for long distance.

I have a Model 3 performance and while it “grips” amazingly, it “handles” poorly meaning it has vague steering feel and feedback but it grips like it’s on rails. It’s just hard to know where it’s breaking point is when you don’t have much steering feel.

@@heyaisdabomb Why explain that the author compares similarly priced cars and then comparing the rear suspension to a 100k+ performance yourself? And talking about car handling, just view some comparisons between the Model 3 Performance and the BMW M3 - which is well known for its excellent driving and handling - The Model Y is on the same chassis as the Model 3 and although the Model Y in my opinion did not have to inherit the Model 3's ‘sporty’ handling, you really can't argue that the Model Y is a moderate handling car. Then you have never driven an E-tron or EQC into a corner at high speed.

When I first got my Model Y in March 2023, I did experience phantom breaking. My last 400 mile road trip? No phantom breaking. I’m not sure if Tesla actually fixed it, but I haven’t experienced it in the last couple months. It is an awesome car.

There should be a law requiring reviewers to make it clear from the beginning which companies they accept compensation from in any form and for any reason, in case there’s a conflict of interest….

You sound like across between a bunch of whining children and those people who insisted the election was rigged. Tesla has flaws. You guys should be on the forefront of trying to make the company get it right. Saying everything is fine only prolongs the problem and turns off rational viewers who see your posts.

@@socalsp3 It sort of works. I personally don’t think it’s worth it, and didn’t buy it, but my friend has it and likes the auto-lane changing feature. It’s just an option that you can choose or not choose except there’s the likelihood that it will improve. But his logic is like selecting leather seats and then stating in a review that you hate leather seats. It’s….odd.

I have a 2018 Model 3 Long Range. I've owned over 20 different cars over the years, and this is, by far, the best car that I have ever owned! Would I ever buy another Tesla? Damn right I would!

@@insayn7995 I would say he has not owned any exciting cars, the Tesla being the most exciting one. I would also say he is not a performance car enthusiast and not really a guy who is into cars. I am a performance car enthusiast and I have a family member who owns a model 3 extended range. I do like it, but I won't buy one for what they cost to own. I prob would if I was 75 years old however.

I loved my model S. Best car I've ever owned. The model 3 however is a constant source of frustration in certain situations . It's constantly raining where I live, and I find myself constantly fiddling with the screen to find the right wiper settings. Auto wipers are useless unless the lighting conditions are perfect, so I've just turned it off. It's just frustrating and dangerous to constantly fiddle on the screen while driving. There are no highways where I live and the roads are not suitable for autopilot. The roads here are bumpy too, and often times when I try to select the proper wiper setting from the menu the uneven road causes me to miss, and then the menu goes away before I can select the proper setting. I end up traveling hundreds of meters without being able to see anything before I can finally get the damn wipers to work... The auto wipers sucked on the Model S too thanks to the lack of a proper rain sensor there as well, but at least I could easily control the wipers from the stick without having to take my eyes off the road. I also miss not having an instrument cluster in front of me. The info on the right side on the screen seems too far away, and I have to turn my head to see it properly. The screen isn't tilted either, so the angle feels wrong, and the screen also feels a bit too small overall. Even in the model S the secondary screen was tilted towards the driver, making it easier to see. There's a lot of things I do like about the car, but it's very clear that this is a car where they've done everything they can to cut costs. I wouldn't say it's the best car I've ever owned. In fact, I much prefer driving my girlfriends 2014 Audi Q5 during heavy rain, because I won't have to drive around blindly while constantly fiddling with the screen to manually control the wipers. The weather here is changing constantly so one minute it's light rain, 10 seconds later it's heavy rain.. Then no rain.. Then light rain again. If only they had a proper rain sensor then the model 3/Y wouldn't have been such a pain in the ass in those situations. If you live in California or any other sunny place, and drive mostly on highways with autopilot engaged, then this car won't disappoint. But in places where autopilot is not usable, it rains a lot, and with lower standard roads, it's far from an ideal car.

Haha, u just love to hate😂🙈 I have a 2020 Volvo V60 CC and my wife traded her e-golf in last summer and got herself a Model 3 LR. Fantastic car, best I have ever driven. Never been a fanboy of either EVs or Teslas, but man what a car! Selling my Volvo now and ordering a Y LR.

Even the customer service is a 10/10, at least here in Norway. They get alot of critisism, so I wanted to mention it. To sum up, I will never have anything else than a 3 and a Y combo (we need 2 cars). 3 for fun and Y when family time👌🏻

I have the exact same blue Model Y - sans the white interior but with the Performance package - and haven’t had anywhere close to the same experience. My frunk never leaks and, yes, the black interior was by far the right choice. I don’t find the center screen off-putting since I’ve had other vehicles with center gauge clusters (such as my Toyota Porte when I was stationed in Japan) and found myself soon adapting to it. (I personally prefer the Spartan interior!) Autopilot is nothing short of brilliant on the highway in reducing driver fatigue, but a work in progress on secondary roads - even with my FSD Beta v10.5. Best described as requiring driver supervision, a bit like a horse, FSD is nowhere near permitting abdication of driver responsibility. Although I HAVE experienced occasional phantom braking, it’s rare and never severe - certainly not multiple occurrences per drive or even once a day. Having never observed your consistently faulty FSD behavior in almost 15,000 miles of driving, I have to conclude there’s a problem with your Model Y which you should address with your local Tesla repair center. I’ve owned perhaps a dozen new cars of every type over the years - including high performance BMWs. The Model Y’s incomparable combination of quickness, cutting edge tech, practicality, convenient charging, and energy efficiency makes it by far the best vehicle I’ve ever owned.

I absolutely agree with every statement you made. Best car I have ever owned....and it's not even close. I would bet that the crew at Roadshow also consider it to be the best car they have ever leased, but that public admission would cause them to lose much of their advertising dollars. There is a reason that it is selling so well....in fact, there are many reasons.

The comment about the Model 3 not handling well was interesting. After driving one it seemed pretty good handling wise on back roads so not sure where that comment comes from.

Totally agree, we have 3 model Y in our family now, and none of them have any of the FSD options, one has the tow hitch, and one has the white interior, but spending 10 grand on a beta fsd that will get replaced in 2 years is fucking stupid.

@@SunriseLAW I had drove a model Y many times (I don't own an EV yet), the price is okay consider what it has to offer. my next purchase will be one. 2 things impressed me the most: no dealer visit for 5k oil change, extremely low maintenance activity & be able to charge it at home.

There are many times when using voice commands doesn’t work - if you’re involved in conversation with passengers, or on the phone, or listening to radio/music, or have a sore throat, etc. No, voice commands are not a proper replacement for eliminating physical buttons/dials

@@cbatiau2528 Yes, they are, 90% of the time. By the way, the main instance voice commands don't work is when the car is not connected. If you are involved in conversations with passenger, you pause the conversation, it's no big deal. Happened to me many times. If you are listening to music, the music will stop when you press the voice command button. If you are on the phone.... sorry, it's silly to continue. By the way, there are instances when you cannot drive the car at all. For example, if one or all of your arms are broken or have been recently amputated.

Sure, it's a matter of preference. Remember that I wrote "all of these CAN be done with voice commands" not that they SHOULD be done or that they MUST be done. I happen to use voice commands probably 90% of the time. Which means that some 10% of the time I do not.

Yeah, that phantom braking issue... M3LR 2022, in the UK even. I no longer ever use Autopilot in low speed urban areas due to this problem. In previous ICE vehicles (Ford / Audi / Volvo / VW), I would use Cruise Control to maintain a safe & legal 30mph in those restricted zones without any problems whatsoever. However, in the M3, any sniff of the slightest, most remote, possibility of any pedestrian straying to within 20m or less of my moving Tesla, and the brakes go on instantly. Also, where there are parked vehicles ahead, and the direction of travel needs to kink over a little to pass, the warning bleeper goes off like a nuclear attack has begun. If a vehicle ahead slows at low speed, emergency brakes can be applied. Dear God, it's like having your elderly Mother in Law in the car, with control of the brakes and nagging at you contantly to LOOK OUT, THERE'S A WHATEVER IT IS, A QUARTER MILE AWAY! I like the car, but really, I do know how to drive without you constantly telling me I'm doing it all wrong, Elon... Software needs a Granny-Off mode.

MIND THE PEDESTRIAN, DEAR!

We have had the white interior since 2018 with no problems or discoloration. Today it would be hard to distinguish from new. Our Model X is better today than when we bought it. To date 60k with no issues. I will be buying again. We do have FSD and at this point I would say to a new buyer. Save your money and rent it when you need it because it’s not going to take you home from the pub but it will make your long distance driving safer but with some 16 year old annoyances.

Yep I’d have to agree with you on many of the things you said. I have a early model 2017 model X with tan interior, 144k miles. It’s held up pretty well, and I will not drive another car without a tesla auto pilot or full self driving, is it so helpful on long trips, and after getting off work.

This is honestly one of the worst auto reviews I’ve ever seen. Dude spent the whole time complaining about “Full Self Driving,” instead reviewing the damn vehicle. What’s it like to live with day-to-day? Any issues with the digital key? How’s cabin noise? How’s the seating position and overall comfort? What’s the throttle response like? How does one pedal driving compare to other EVs? Any unexpected maintenance?

Don’t understand people being upset with the price increase. Ford MachEs are selling 15k over MSRP. Anything remotely resembling a premium SUV are selling at minimum 10k over MSRP.

People get mad that they can't buy an 80's 911 for a low price too. It's exactly what happens with everything where supply is limited and demand is high. If you can't afford it, just don't buy it. No need to get upset. I think people try to put dealers in a different category than other resellers. I think the big difference is that we typically HAVE to buy a new car from a dealer, and they know they have us by the balls. BUT - if nobody was willing to pay the dealer premium, then the premium wouldn't exist. Pay the dealer markup, or, as we've seen with Tesla, pay the manufacturer markup. At least one (dealer) is generating revenue in the local economy which then gets recirculated through the local market. When demand drops, prices drop, unless the government forces us to buy it. Market economies are great.

I think the angst stems from EV prices being at luxury car price ranges, so any price bump will leave out many buyers. Uncertainty around tax rebates didn’t help.

When I decided to get an EV, my first choice was not Tesla, I read many reviews on the Kia Niro, Nissan Leaf and Hyundai, I drove them all are were nice to drive, but once I drove the Tesla 3 there was no comparison with all the extra features that Tesla offered at almost the same price. Especially the range, the frequent updates, and all wheel drive.

My advice: buy the Model Y. If you think $10,000 is too much for the FSD feature that isn’t yet released, then don’t select that option. I passed on FSD even when I could have added it for only $2000.

@@definitelyjustjj4042 Neither the Model 3 or Y are good looking cars. Plus there are a million of them around now. I do think the 3 look better than the Y. But the Y is far more comfortable.

Advice: Save your money and buy a Tesla without the $10K FSD option. It’s in Beta, as is the standard included Autopilot. You can always buy it later, or you can rent FSD for $200/month. That would be the smart thing to do.

@@annl9637 oh it happens on autopilot as well, but it is very rare and mostly at night. I've only had it happen once in the day. But definitely not as often as he's suggesting

I have that exact same car and love it. But, It does phantom break for oncoming big trucks on a two lane rd., breaks for road kills, basic autopilot hugs the middle of the road on narrow country roads. Looking at the screen is distracting and bothers passengers.

I've had my MYP for a few months now. I rarely use autopilot and didn't opt for FSD. It is so far the best car I have ever owned. Traded in my XC60 which was great. My wife drives a Q3 which is also great, only after dealing with major problems at the beginning. Center console screen is easy to get used to or you can just verbally ask the car to do what you need it to do, like heat, music etc. with the push of one button. Interior is easy to clean because it has minimal buttons, sound system is great and it is very spacious. Not the smoothest ride due to the stiff suspension and 21's but seats are comfortable and rival my Volvo/Audi which I think are the best. Tesla superchargers are everywhere so it's easy for me to charge if needed but I have a wall charger at home. My electric bill has gone up approx. $60/month. I drive approx. 140km/weekday + weekend errands. I used to fill up 1.5 times per week costing me about $135. You do the math. If I had free charging at work then my electricity bill for this car would be zero. Anyways, I think we all know other EV's have their problems as well. But for me, at this particular time, Tesla is still ahead of the others just getting into the EV game. I don't trust Ford. After seeing the Ionic 5 in real life, I just couldn't imagine driving a car around that looked like that. Same goes for the VW. I was very interested in the BMW M50 but at the time there wasn't a single car in Canada that we could sit in much less test drive. Same goes for the KIA, which I had a lot of interest in. And all others I was interested in like the Jag and Audi are out of my price range. Also didn't hurt that I was able to snag a showroom model with the exact specs I wanted with a couple thousand bucks off.

One of the most overlooked things with any other EV is charging on long distance travel. The non-Tesla charging is lacking in number of stalls per site as well as reliability and lower kW levels which can add many hours/days to your trip. With Tesla you barley notice a difference versus conventional ICE vehicles. So, buy any EV that can use the Tesla Charging network, unless you plan to only use your BEV to travel short distanceand back home.

Suspension is a common point - you could upgrade to a custom one if you wanted.

Biased review. Complain about electric steering column adjustment, it will remember your setting and other drivers, super easy to setup. FSD it is in beta, who buys this to complain that it is in beta? Not all cars have lidar. Phantom braking is being improved on, agree that this is annoying. But of course go buy another car. VW id4 or 3 - but no updates on the finicky software, Mach E, Software is not the best either, and I actually hit the corner of the screen with my knee on the passenger side. Ionic 5 or EV6 are quite good cars, they have most features, but the steering wheel rotates all the time in lane assist mode, and some complain on the charging issues, cold gating & handshake errors. @@yodamaster757 Driven over 15 el cars, none of them is perfect, none of them are as versatile as fossil cars. But the few that I find close enough is TMY, EV6 and Skoda Enyaq are the closest to what I would consider good enough. TMY being the most futuristic and best updated car of the bunch.

I use Autopilot about 80% of the time and I'm usually not driving on the highway, so I'm glad Tesla allows it on side roads. I have a 99 safety rating, so I'm looking forward to getting access to FSD Beta soon.

If you have a model with radar (2020 or up until July 21 production), please don’t enroll in the FSD beta. It permanently disables the radar, and those models have severe phantom braking after that.

I have a 2018 Tesla M3 with EAP (Enhanced Auto Pilot) for a $3000 up charge and a 2020 MY with FSD for $8500. I would take the EAP option if offered rather than FSD. I am not ready to surrender driving tasks completely to a computer yet. So far I find it over-reacts to other driver issues. Instead of changing lanes when a driver is merging onto the highway without yielding, it maintains its proper lane but then brakes aggressively to avoid a collision. The Tesla has the right of way but is not adjusting to real world conditions. BTW after 30,000 miles and 3 years of ownership on Teslas with white interior, I have no stains, no issues (and no kids or dogs). I am very pleased with my Tesla ownership experience.

Why did you pay 10,000 for a feature you knew you were going to be skeptical about and then complain about it. Perhaps not order that option then?

So he could review it. If he got it, then he'd have something to review. His experience represents the majority of consumers that order the feature. All they get is promise and $10k poorer. It's not normal to sell an optional feature that doesn't exist and many will be caught off guard as this is the most mainstream Tesla yet.

@@fabulousprofound Ya I know they had some fit and finish issues initially, but I think those days are over. Also, theTexas factory is brand new and I suspect the cars that are made there will be very good.

I drive a Model 3 Performance. Best and safest car I've ever owned. For highway driving I always use Autopilot (same as in the Model Y) - I have experienced phantom braking but rarely. It reads roadworks speed signs and slows down automatically, it maintains lane, and the adaptive cruise control is superb. I always arrive at my destination much more alert and relaxed than I did in the past. US data shows that cars driving with Autopilot engaged are roughly nine times less likely to be involved in a crash. Is it good value - resoundingly YES. Is FSD good value? I have FSD but would NOT recommend purchase, unless you are happy placing a bet on Tesla achieving Level 4 or 5 within the next year or so. You might also consider buying FSD to be part of a crowd funding exercise helping early full autonomy.

@@mikeb1039 This a very real potential problem. You just need one of 2 things to happen to have someone slamming into the back of your Tesla: the driver isn't paying 100% attention on the road or he is followed your car too closely.

Well... we bought a Model Y some 2 years after we got our Model 3 and we are super-happy. Indeed, we did not get FSD for the Model Y because 80% of FSD is currently done for free by basic Autopilot. I do have the FSD Beta on the Mod 3 and it clearly IS a Beta or maybe an Alfpha-plus at this time. I do agree that true FSD will not happen this year or next year but I am confident we will see it, likely in 5 years and the odds are pretty good that it will be by Tesla. As for the final statement: "buy any EV but not a Tesla", it's dumb and it probably comes out of some frustration. Seriously, why buy an inferior product and avoid 'the best'? Speaking for myself, I cannot think of any other EV or any other vehicle I would consider at this time.

@@rosesbellydancers we have a 80k dollar GLE and a DM model 3 and when it comes to luxury and ride comfortability it beats the Tesla as it should , but when it comes to software and autopilot it’s literally not even in the same realm as the Tesla , it literally embarrasses the Mercedes. We have a P model Y on order right now

Autopilot is displayed at the top of the screen. If the wheel is blue its active. Right is closer left is farther. Autopilot gets updated on a regular basis. I have 15000k on my M3P and haven't had any phantom braking issues. It is possible you're still using an older version. Which seems highly likely as you don't even know how to use the car otherwise.

Agreed. His UI complaints are only relevant for a reviewer that spends little time in lots of cars. Most people will learn the UI within days/weeks of driving the same car.

After driving a dual motor Model 3 and Y, my only complaint is that it doesn’t have magnetic suspension. For the price point it should have that which would greatly improve the ride quality especially when they can be ordered with 19 and 20” wheels.

“Buy any other EV there’s a lot of great choices.” Which ones? Only thing I can think of is the mach E which are being produced slowly and so the dealer charge you ridiculous mark up due to the supply being so low. And if you thought the Model Y didn’t handle well you also won’t like the mach E

I've heard several saying it happens much less now.

You highlighted poor build quality in the past but didn't demonstrate any issues with yours, you didn't talk about superchargers or any of those great other features. Autopilot is the only such system on rural highways where many of us live and it works great, not JUST on lited pre-mapped roads.

@@gazlives what’s stupid is Tesla makes sure that any issues are resolved after delivery. If you think Tesla is the only ones doing this you would be incorrect. Every car has these issues in the beginning of production. Many bet against Tesla financially and they use things like this to blow it out of proportion. The bottom line is teslas are awesome and they are a threat to every ICE vehicle manufacturer today.

Remove FSD, white seats and you have a much more affortable model y that is worth the money. The MIC model Y in Europe still has the radar onboard, in my experience fantom breaking is less frequent en less agressive than i have seen here. Maybe i've had it like 2 times in 10000km when there was no car in sight and only slowing down like 5 or 10kph... I am confident this will get better with future software updates for MIC model Y. I'm not so confident in the model Y without radar...

Same here with my Model Y in the Netherlands, rarely experience any phantom braking. Unlike my previous Model 3, which suffered much more, although equipped with radar. Didn't even know the MIC 2021 Y's are still equipped with radar?

Bizarre review. Made some good points including some fair criticism regarding the phantom braking and charging for FSD when it’s not ready - both of those are unacceptable. But then a very biased and bitter undertone overshadowed all else and the review lost all credibility.

Matter of fact when this was done they had the option to rent from the tesla appstore on a month by month basis. Them being out 10K is a personal failure to do their homework. If you cannot trust a reviewer to do their homework before offering a review. can you trust anything else they have to say.

You leased a Tesla and bought the FSD option? That's like putting $10,000 wheels on it knowing that you're going to have to give it back

Phantom breaking is a very serious and irritating problem! As this video indicates sometimes it puts on the brakes so hard that it gets an ABS release. I took it to the service center and they disbelieve me but we went out and drove the car and they saw it the technician told me that Tesla told him this was the first they heard of it and this was just about a month ago. Plus I agree $10,000 for the functionality of four S. driving is a rip off. I paid for that was a 2017 S model and was told it would occur in a year maybe slightly more. I still have the S and it still does not have full self driving and its capability is worse than that of the Y!! The biggest thing that irritates me is you pay for full sales driving you trade in a car they don’t give you the full self driving on your new car that you paid for on the old car somehow that seems wrong because I never got the benefit of the full self driving!

Funny thing. I own 2 Teslas and spent exactly $0 dollars on self-driving features. I recommend this as an alternative to crying and moaning and complaining that self-driving isn't yet perfect. And as an extra bonus, your car won't ever accidentally drive your wife to your girlfriend's house.

I've owned a M3 SR+ for almost two years. It is by far the best car I've ever had. I did not purchase the FSD and rarely use the Autopilot. I have never experience phantom breaking while driving without Autopilot. The few times I used Autopilot (on the highway), it worked fine with a few exceptions. I did experience the issue with lane widening and the car trying to find the new center. I also experienced phantom breaking while on autopilot when the road ahead went from sun to dark shade. I've made a number of road trips in my car and my Supercharger experience has been fantastic. I find the screen based controls very easy to navigate, but I typically just listen to Spotify while driving and don't really have a need to make changes while driving. While I love my M3, the MY looks fantastic and everyone I've talked to who has one loves it. I love the M3 for it's handling and performance. For me, the SR+ has too much acceleration so I leave it in "Chill" mode. Even in "Chill" mode, this car accelerates fast. Based on my experience with the Autopilot, I would not recommend the FSD unless you have unlimited funds. I have not had any range issues with the SR+, but I live in a mild climate. If you live in a cold climate, you'll want the long range version. I was on a budget. The climate in my area is only very cold (15-25F) for a few weeks a year. During those times I have to do a little more planning for days where I want to drive a longer than normal distance. On those days I have to leave with a full charge, lower the thermostat, and turn off Sentry mode so I can make the trip without a charging stop. My regular commuting days are uneventful and leave plenty of range for unplanned excursions. Before I purchased mine, I went on Turo and rented one (M3 LR) to get a better idea which model I wanted. I use a $250 charger from Amazon plugged into an older dryer outlet that puts out 16A at 220V. I usually only need about a 30% charge so it works great. If I need more, I just need to start the charging process earlier. Coming from a Camry and Altima, this is a fantastic car. I was more worried about going from FWD to RWD, but the RWD M3 handles amazing due to the low CG from the placement of the batteries. The M3 LR I rented also handled well, but the nose felt heavier. The M3 SR+ seems to pivot better for me, but I am no race car driver.

I have exactky the same car. It has phantom braked about 3 times in 25, 000 miles. Don't use FSD off the freeways. It works really well on big roads. It works really well if you're not trying to drive too fast. This is not a $70,000 car. This is a $54,000 car. You can rent FSD for $199 a month if you so wish. Brilliant charging network. Fantastic range. Much less polluting than a gas car. You left out all the excellent stuff; terrible hatchet of a review guys.

@@thomaslorinczi7477 A good point Thomas, but the science is pretty clear: The old vehicle is super polluting. If my milage was very low it would make sense to keep the old vehicle. But it is not. The big energy is the gas that moves the vehicle thousands of miles - not the production of the vehicle.

I would like to see an analysis of traveling to National Parks and dealing with the charging systems available for the Model Y. If you're back-country camping for a week or 2 and have to park the Y in the sun or in the cold how long can it sit there and still be able to make it to a charger.

As long as you don't check the app constantly you will be okay. Ideally, use an RV park as a basecamp and plug it in there, if you are going to be hiking for weeks, take the mobile charger that came with the car and plug it into a regular 110v socket. It will be fully charged from empty in a couple of days and then stay topped up, even with checking on it from the app.

It depends on other things besides temperature. I left my MY at a covered airport parking garage and left sentry mode on, and it used 4-5% daily.

ouch! bold review!. Ive looked at other EVs and you have the glaring Issues of charging network.. I've really thought about going with mach-e but in the midwest the charging network is non existent for anything else besides Tesla. So then what do you advise in those situations? Make sure to only drive enough to where your close to your house? Not acceptable...

I have a friend that debated mach-e vs model y. Went with the Ford and have found themselves stuck at a level 2 charger for hours twice on trips. Charging Network to me is the biggest factor in EV purchase at this time.

The reviewer said at the end: Don't buy a Tesla, it is dangerous to drive with Phantom Braking and no radar or lidar in the autopilot system. And that is good advice.

I've had my Tesla Model Y for almost 11 months now and absolutely LOVE it! This is not my first brand new car, but I can tell you it is BY FAR the BEST car I've EVER owned. No regrets whatsoever. You shouldn't have paid for FSD. It is still in BETA. Why would you pay $10,000? I just use the subscription now that the option is available.

The phantom braking on secondary roads gets irritating. It sees stop signs on merging roads or various trucks in the opposite lane and slams on the brakes. Also if it pouring down rain most autopilot features are disabled and/or camera blocked errors occur. It also consumes a lot of battery when parked with sentry mode running to capture video of motion around the vehicle.

Well, you do make some important points about several issues on the model Y LR vehicle. And I am aware of them before I watched this video. My main reason for buying my 2023 model Y LR is to get away from stopping at the gas stations. I am retired and mainly drive around town or short single charge trips. I charge up the vehicle at home from a 220 volt outlet. I like the hatchback style and several other features that other EV vehicles don't provide. I just have the basic Auto Pilot but have not used yet, and is not one of the important needs of the model Y. Supposedly the Fantom Braking is improved a little bit, but I know it still has this issue. I do not need EAP or FSD driving assists. I am not a Tesla fanboy, but I do like driving this vehicle and I will see how it does for my first winter of driving. Thanks for the video and take care. Your video was very informative.

What are the "several other features that other EV vehicles don't provide"? Tesla's has market share is all, but because of this they don't have to put out a quality product. But other EVs manufacturers like Kia, Hyundai and Ford and equally good if not better features IMHO.

Bought my MY after the huge price drop. Also didn’t spend extra on color, white seats, and FSD. Instead I spent money on aftermarket accessories such as all weather floor mats, covers, mud flaps, and spoiler. It’s not as quiet as Lexus ES, but quite comfortable and fun to drive. Very happy so far. No other cars in the same category are comparable.

Sounds like the reviewers just got hung up on the $10k they spent on the FSD. Its and option, not standard, so I don't think its appropriate for them to use that as a reason to tank the review. The standard version of Autopilot is wonderful. Had my Model Y for 10 months and I will never go back to ICE. I will consider other manufacturers when I go to replace it, but nothing out there right now is even close. I do understand people who opt for the Mach-E, or even the ID4. If you have the ability to have a home charger, and you don't road trip often the charging network can be much lower on the priority list. Also, I know some people like the other EVs because of the interior setups. It's the same reason everyone doesn't buy a Camry when looking for a small car. No car can please everyone. Tesla sure does please a lot of people though....

Have had our model Y for 1 week, no FSD. Just the plain-jane cruise control with all safety things turned off, still does phantom braking constantly when it sees a tractor trailer, or when there is a hill and a car approaching. It's absolutely ridiculous for a car in 2021 to not be able to just do plain cruise control. It is incredibly dangerous if someone is following you and it randomly decides to nearly put you through the windshield. This is after recalibrating the cameras. I will be looking for a fix for this or will do a lemon law on my car. Been driving for over 25 years and I think this is the worst thing ever for a new car. The review was great, i just dont understand how he almost only has good things to say abt the car, but concludes that you shouldnt buy it because a purchasable testing feature isnt finished yet

@@herskind1364 Right. His concern was over temporary behaviour that can change every few weeks. I have driven only Teslas for 7 years and have not had phantom braking problems in years. I wonder whether some cars have a camera problem causing that, because it does not seem to be the SW alone.

Agree on HUD and ventilated/cooled seats, for the money these should be included.

I've placed my order for a model y LR and will get it in August/September of 2022. I don't think i've changed my mind after seeing this video. I did not get full self driving and that seems to be the biggest issue in this video. I picked Tesla because of their supercharger network. I have watched a lot of videos on youtube from other tesla owners. Build quality was an issue at the beginning but seems to have been addressed with the 2021 model y and i'm sure the 2022 model y will be even better. Did not hear about this in the video for the model y here to this makes me think that the build quality is fine. I drove the model y a couple of times and it seemed fine in going over bumps. did not see an issue with handling. seemed to be able to go around turns pretty aggressively without loss of control. I've watched a lot of Mach-E, and ID4 videos and in all of them, the same issue exists, the charging network. Perhaps in 5 yrs electrify america and others will catch up but that is probably the single most reason to get a tesla unless you plan to only drive an hour or 2 away from where you live.

Be prepared sooner. Have no idea where these ETAs come from. We went from March to February to January 13th a few weeks ago to getting Vin a couple days ago and financing completed yesterday. Get car in 2 weeks.

You will not regret it. Getting the 3 was one of the best decisions I ever made. I will never drive anything but Tesla from now on. There is truly no comparison. This is clearly a hit piece in some regards. I’ve had my 3 (RED LR) since 2018 and it’s still a joy every time I dive it. And FSD is awesome just not ready for prime time yet. I am a beta tester so I see the newest updates, and it is getting more amazing with every update. Tesla is the future.

I just ordered my Y and opted for the performance model just so I can get here in January. One of my only concerns is switching between a regular car and a Tesla day to day. Is it difficult to adjust each time or will your body and mind get used to it?

Is the phantom braking only with the FSD? Or just with normal driving ?

How long did you keep your 2022 Model Y before you sold/traded it?

Not sure why they wouldn't just say don't purchase FSD? Conclusion seems a little extreme.

I don't know who Roadshow is, other than the Antique Roadshow, but Sandy Munro recommends Model Y, and that's all I need to hear.

I have been driving a M3 Dual Motor for 3 years in Los Angeles where i routinely drive freeway and streets and have only had Phantom braking twice....Both times visibility was difficult. I love my car and struggle to understand why people pick on Teslas so much.

_Because all Elon cares about is profit, not safety or quality. Something like Audi or Volkswagen would take extra care in making their products more safe and higher quality. My 18 year old Vw Touareg is much better than a Tesla. Period. And I say this because I have a model 3 myself and it’s worse than my 18 year old Vw and it’s brand new my Tesla model 3._

​@mintheman7 _You're not taking into account the multiple incidents regarding to their driver assist features causing multiple deaths within the span of less than a decade which is not driver fault, but car fault. VW AND tesla, are for profit, and while the whole "dieselgate" scandal was a thing, Volkswagen has admitted and served the consequences for their actions. However with Tesla; they haven't admitted to their fatalities caused and used the "software update" excuse. Which shouldn't have been used._ _I also have mentioned quality. Tesla hasn't been around for very long, yet they push out cars like they've been doing this for years. Volkswagen has, but Tesla has been around for only a decade. Their quality isn't comparable to European or Japanese counterparts._

@@asrieldreemur1764 VW suffered the consequences only after they got caught, they cheated for decades. If Tesla SW is indeed causing driver deaths, NTSB will catch up with them sooner or later. All of the cases I have seen are all drivers acting stupid. Feel free to list examples if you know some. I’m not for Tesla or VW since I don’t own either, just stating facts. But you are clearly biased because you love your car so much.

Is there a standard cruise control option, I mean one where you can just set the speed without all the camera sensing? I used to have a 2014 Golf, that used a simple radar for adaptive cruise control and I used it on normal roads all the time, I can't remember any false brake events.

Tes-la, not Tez-la. English is hard. 🤦

You should do an updated episode of the 2023 model Y with the current price reduction. And talk about what other choices there are on the market. Most importantly talk about its crash testing results compared to comp cars. Safety awards it has received. Or driving off of a 300 foot cliff and everyone will live.

Tesla cars are good in safety standards. In major accident, they really saves you, as they have added extra supports to collison energy absorption. But, for the skin ( outer panels) they went very thin aluminium sheets, inorder to save weight. So the problem is, in case of any small accident, tesla panes gets dent very badly compared to any other car. My friend closed his Model Y frunk with hands by pushed a bit towards the middle (not really at around the Tesla logo), in order to close the frunk door, he got a nasty dent for that. If you look in the tesla manual, they give explicit instructions on how & where to push the frunk door, as they know that its flimsy. Other general cars dont have this kind of issue.

Phantom braking could be fatal. The car brakes suddenly, you get rear-ended by the car behind you, then get pushed across the center divider, and possibly get in a head on collision. And that's game over, man. This reviewer is right: don't buy a Tesla EV, they are unsafe.

I have a model Y and really like it, I recommend the car to others. Buuut there is a valid point here, phantom breaking has increased substantially in recent updates and it’s far from ok. On a short drive to work this week I had three incidents of breaking or lane departure warnings (one in a car park). There are serious issues with current releases that need acknowledgment and addressing.

Arrrg. I have a 2019 TM3 and phantom braking is very rare and usually warranted- ie blind crest with a car entering lane. Even then it’s never been ABS style aggression. As a driver it’s easily predictable and avoidable by hovering over the accelerator on the undulating roads. That being said. I’m one of the first to be receiving a TMY in Aus… I’m worried about no radar - my TM3 slammed on the brakes once. And we were like what the hell is it doing. The car infront of us HIT the car infront of him we pulled up comfortably. The TM3 almost always shows the car infront of the car infront of us on the display, does yours?. - apparently as it bounces radar under the car infront to see what eyes cannot... I use autopilot on ALL side roads. It’s safe, and utterly brilliant. No radar concerns me! It sounds flakey

People really pay over 100k for a car and think it's acceptable and a minor inconvinence that it brakes on it's own for no reason? My first car was a 10 year old Astra and I never had such problems with it, it cost a fraction of what the Tesla is asking.

@@ibsn87 I'm hoping your Y worked well for you! My 2023 Model Y LR (HW4 but with no radar installed) has yet to phantom brake in the two weeks and 700+ miles I've driven. I use the base Autopilot, mostly on the freeway and a little on decently (if fading) marked rural/suburban side roads. Perhaps 30-60% of my driving has been with autopilot. The display does usually show cars ahead of the cars ahead (at least on straight roads). Though I follow closely when driving, myself, when on either TACC or AutoPilot I generally dial in a large following distance, which on highways has the benefit of encouraging tailgaters to go around me rather than continuing to hang on my rear bumper, which has the further benefit of reducing the odds of really bad side-effects should my beloved Model Y decide to brake hard with or without reason. My biggest problem with Autopilot (or maybe it is more with TACC) is it being totally ignorant of signage, in particular speed limit changes on sideroads ahead of curves and such. It is also a little annoying that TACC continues at highway speed when an exit is taken while signaling, I have to explicitly cancel TACC (Autopilot self-cancels when you start the signalling), else I get to test the handling of the Y at high speed while braking on what is often a blind and usually decreasing radius turn -- bad practice. I now know that pushing the right stick up cancels Autopilot and of course tapping the brake cancels them both, but I don't like using the brake for doing anything other than slowing down (ok I do see a little irony here, as that is exactly what I'd be wanting to do, but there is nuance). I wonder if pushing up the stick can cancel TACC, too ?... I'll have to try it.

@@slowercuber7767 I only have the free basic auto pilot. I have not paid for enhanced autopilot or FSD. I find the speed limits are 98% accurate. With a few exceptions. But I know where they are. There is a company in Israeli? that put a patent on speed sign recognition specifically by use of cameras. Mobileeye I think it’s called. It’s a pretty powerful patent and after parting ways with tesla in the early days, they were wanting to charge Tesla (and therefore the customer) an extortionate amount of money to use it - even though in 2023 Tesla and even basic hobby camera AI systems can quite easily be programmed to recognize speed signs…. Tesla had to find a work around - hence why the majority of the speeds are database GPS derived. It’s not ideal, but this is how the world works I guess. If tesla continued to use mobile eye, we wouldn’t have what we have today. Nor would we have constant updates!!!! I think Tesla are using the cameras for the visualization. But I’m not sure if they can legally use it to set the speed. I have a 5-6km over speed setting enabled in autopilot settings. So in a 60 zone it will default to 65 ish. And I can wind that back if I feel the need too. If your on a highway and it hasn’t slowed down or sped up to the new speed limit, to match the new speed, you can scroll wheel up or down, you can tap the speed icon on the screen, or - what I do you can press and hold down a half click on the autopilot engagement stalk for half a second. If I’m using autopilot into a fast sweeping bend, I will just scroll down and get the car slowing slightly as it comes into the corner. Otherwise it can come in a little hot, but it’s always managed with no intervention none the less as I wait to see what it will do, but I prefer to command it a little. Familiarity with the roads makes a big difference to how I let autopilot drive. I use it on 60+% of my driving including most backroads. If a car crosses an intersection legally in-front of me. I hover over the accelerator knowing it will start to brake - as it’s job is to not drive into objects in my lane. I can’t blame it for being conservative. People expect basic autopilot to calculate entry and exit trajectory and timing of crossing traffic. Unfortunately that’s not what the free autopilot is currently designed to do (this will change). For highway driving - where its supposed to be used. I find it 99.9999% flawless. I hate highway and backroad driving in my other car without it! Indeed over the last 5 years I’ve had it. It continues to get better and better. However very little further development is going into the basic autopilot. Their focus is on FSD. The good news is, SOON they are planning to use FSD computation algorithms on the basic autopilot features. So there may be a major improvement just around the corner. No one knows exactly when that will be - probably with the consumer version of FSD being released. I’ve not driven a new car with autonomous driving that comes REMOTELY close to the confidence I have in the Tesla with regard to lane keeping. A friend of mine said his brand new Subaru with its lane keeping and TACC was just as good as my Tesla. 3 times in a 5 min drive it tried to kill us. Similar experience for the new Mercedes I drove. Although. Mercedes pays for mobile eye. So there’s that, the speeds were spot on all the time. Overall I couldn’t be happier with teslas progress, the updates and it’s current limitations for the free version are acceptable in my books. If it was any other car. It wouldn’t have gotten better after I purchased it. If they had stuck with mobile eye, from the day it left the dealer, it would be the same. All other cars with these autonomous features are just as prone to phantom braking. My friend with his Subaru admits his has nearly put him though the windscreen several times… my car has never down that!! Tesla just attracted alot of spotlight with a bad run for a few months with software that wasn’t quite where it should have been.

Fair points, really. The build quality has improved with the Model Y, although they continue to use cheap materials given the price point. And enhanced autopilot is really the top end of what should be offered on these cars. FSD just isn't ready. It's improving and I appreciate what Tesla are trying to do with it, but it's so buggy it's dangerous and so shouldn't even be on the car, even in beta mode.

My Accords radar has done the same thing. It slammed on the breaks when no on was around. I had to turn it off. Honda says they have never heard anyone else report this problem.

Nah I love my model Y, I have that exact same configuration minus the FSD (because I can always add it via subscription later) with twice as many miles. Autopilot has been beautiful driving on these Texas roads. It’s an SUV, you can’t expect it to match the ride handling and ride quality of a sedan on smooth roads. It’s excellent going over bumps and damaged roads. The only thing to me worth nitpicking about is being unable to use fast DC charging without that big clunky adapter you have to buy for several hundred $.

They fought to get where they are. Thinking about it, the customers paying for FSD are funding the ongoing development 😃. People do the direction of Tesla & seem forgiving of this new car company’s temp fixes.

Model Y is amazing Drive and More comfortable. The sound system is brilliant.

Interesting Model Y review but basically way off the mark. The conclusion " Buy any other EV except this one" is totally prejudice and I'm sure you know it. Autopilot is standard on the car and it's nothing except a fancy name for Cruise Control with steering assist. It's meant to be used on the highway and works just fine for that purpose. I didn't even know how to turn it on, or had any reason to use it until I had my Y for six months and took a trip from L.A. to Vegas. Admittedly the words Autopilot and the Full Self Driving option are grossly overhyped but that's no reason to disqualify this awesome car, that will likely be the best selling vehicle on the planet by 2024 once the Texas and Germany pants are at full capacity. The suggestion that maybe a ID.4 or Mack-E might serve you better is ludicrous. The Model Y is light years ahead of all of the other current EV's, and ICE cars as well, in terms of acceleration, handling, safety, true reliability and charging convenience. Tesla owners know that, Tesla buyers know that and Wall Street knows that. You probably know it as well but that's not the headline you're seeking so just sell it to one of the thousands and thousands of folks waiting in line for there Model Y. That will make someone very, very happy and you can write about some other B.S.

My Hyundai Kona Ev does all that it also has HUD, heated and cooling seats plus Android and Apple carplay and was damn sight cheaper. The presenters opinion is valid in what he say.

@@gazelem3737 Sure I'm bias. I'm a Model Y owner. Are you? I didn't do the video, Roadshow did. The intent of the video is to discourage the purchase of a Model Y by the viewers. Myself and the overwhelming majority of Tesla owners have a different opinion that deserves to be heard. That's all. I don't know why he experience the phantom braking. Perhaps bad lane markers or maybe operating on rural roads with lots of other obstruction issue or just a camera that's defective or out of alignment. I don't know but the point is that his experience is unique and doesn't deserve the condemnation in his conclusion. You can visit any supercharger station and ask every owner there if they've experienced the same issue and the answer will be no. Try it!

I'm pretty much stuck on the Tesla supercharging convenience, which is very high on my list, especially in California since I'm a high mileage driver. I didn't think the presenter dreamed up those issues and as such the presenter's opinion is valid for his model Y, but not mine or the overwhelming majority of Model Y owners.

I gladly trade in your ev with any other. Which would you pick and would you actually trade it if it's offered to you

Yeah I'm with you. I have similar complaints to full self-driving, but it's still better than anything else on the road. I drove the mustang Mach-E and flat out did not like it. So much talk about competition, yet what is the real competition? I still don't see it.

Very biased review. I've noticed a lot of anti-Tesla reviews compared to other vehicles made to directly compete with the Model Y such as the Mach - E. They must be getting paid by car companies or oil companies. The fact is, if they didn't order the blue paint, FSD, and tow feature this car would have been 12k cheaper than what they paid for it and still blows other cars in this segment out of the water.

Almost all your issues were with FSD and your recommendation is to not by the car at all? Why not recommend not getting FSD?

I can never get used to not having an instrument cluster. The 15" screen seems too small, and some of the info is too far away, like the navigation. It's so much better in the model S where you get the direction etc right in front of you. I suppose this design is OK n the US where you drive most of the time on a highway, anywhere else where you need to really focus on the road, it's quite distracting not having info as easily available. Another thing I really hate about the model 3 and model Y is the way the windshield wipers work. I live near the coast in Norway, and the weather is changing constantly. It's raining most of the time, and the auto wipers are simply unusable due to the lack of a dedicated rain sensor. The camera based rain detection only works satisfactory under optimal light conditions. After dark, it's utterly useless and I've ended up just turning it off, using manual wipers instead. Another problem is that the manual controls are also extremely clumsy to use. There's no handle where you can simply engage or disengage them like on any other car, including the model S. No, hhave to push the button on the stick to engage the wipers once, at which time a menu pops up on the screen, from which you can change the wiper speed,.... This requires you to take your eyes off the road. Not optimal if it's suddenly raining heavily. Furthermore, if the road is bumpy you might have a hard time hitting the correct button. After a few seconds the wiper settings menu also disappears, so if you missed you have to press the button once again to bring it up and try again... Extremely frustrating! And the whole time you're struggling with this you don't really see where you're going.... Imagine coming out of a long tunnel, and then it's suddenly splashing down. You can't see anything... You can't just engage the wipers at max from the stick.. No you have to take your eyes off the road and start fiddling with the screen to set the correct speed. By the time you've successfully engaged the wipers you might have traveled 100 meters without seeing anything at all. You might even find yourself outside the road... It's a terrible design.. The screen can't be tilted either, so the angle is all wrong. In the model S, even the secondary screen is slightly tilted towards the driver, making it easier to see. Those are my biggest complaints about the model Y and model 3. It's very obvious that they've done anything they can to cut costs on these cars. Unfortunately, some of those design decisions causes a lot of unnecessary frustration, degrading the driving experience a lot. I was extremely happy with my model S, but the model 3 is a constant source of frustration...

It is good to have critical reviews and those can give perspectives when you think about buying a car. However this phantom braking issue seems to be now in headlines. If I have understood right from other reviews you can disable braking part and only get warning. This will eliminate automatic braking and you only get phantom warning. Well it is not nice to have but small workaround for problem until it is fixed by update. From my experience many cars what use cameras or other sensors are sensitive for phantom signals (even ICE cars, what I have). So it is not so rare issue and comes with computer recognize some signals wrong. FSD critic is partly fair as it is sold with some expectation with quite hefty price. However it is fully optional and not necessary. You can use just plainly normal cruise control what is very good in Tesla 3 and Y. What I would like to understand how Y is performing with range and different weathers or loads. Winter, Summer, rain, fog etc. My biggest concern still in EV is range as my hope it should be around 400 -500 miles to be enough. This comes that winter normally reduces range 30 - 40 %. Overall Im very curious about Tesla as they actually have taken interesting view to build a car top of software platform. That might be only right way to look it. Even now tablet might seem little strange for us who have used cars with 100+ buttons. Next generations are likely much more with simple sleek design and centralized controls. Time will tell who is right.

I drove EVs, hybrid, PHEV, but I think Tesla is on top. I care less about software issues if they are frequently updated. I have never seen a car manufacturer update their software more than twice in the lifetime period. There aren't that many alternatives. Just name one make that had very meaningful OTA till now...

@5:10 My 2023 Model Y LR has TACC and Autopilot status at the the top of the display now. Since updates go out to all their cars, I'd expect this leased one to have the indicators on the top now, too, thus illustrating a gigantic advantage of lifetime over-the-air updates, which Tesla does so well.

If you opted for FSD then the only way you coud have used it is if you are part of the Beta test. Just because you optioned FSD dosent mean you get to try it. You will be able to use it when it goes into wider release if you have good saftey score.

I like that this was the first Tesla review that actually went over important issues that happen when driving the car. People rave so much about self driving but don’t understand that it’s not always perfect. Also, I saw that your rear pass tail light had moister in the lens. I worked for a car wash for many years and noticed that their headlight and taillight housings have seal issues and the cars would always come out with moister in the front or back lights!

I understand where he's coming from on the FSD and phantom breaking but to say this was a good review is a far stretch. He literally said get any other ev and not a tesla. Like what? Tesla I don't have to worry about dealerships marking up prices and waiting to see if my local dealer has it in stock. I have a solid and reliable charging network. Yes, the car isn't perfect no where near but it's showing that it's improving. Then price point Tesla is going to be the most bang for my buck. He should've just said "These are the top reasons you shouldn't buy a tesla" He told everyone shouldn't buy it because he didn't like it, yet there's plenty of people who love it. A good review is going over the good and the bad, then obviously saying "Hey I might not really go for it but some of you this might be the perfect car for."

Those can be replaced under warranty.

I owned a Model 3 w/FSD and then a Model Y (learned from past mistake and didn’t get FSD). Loved my 3, but it did have a lot of the safety issues you mention. Phantom braking was the biggest headache…unpredictable and often! The Y had better room, but you pointed out a few things that make the car not worth it…for that money, the seats are rubbery, there are no A/C controls for the back, which was a HUGE issue for us using it for long trips (never thought that would be an issue until I didn’t have it). Two zone A/C in an SUV with a big glass roof you can’t close is no bueno. But, the tipping point was the comfort. Probably the most uncomfortable car I’ve driven in that cost more than 40k. Worse than my Model 3 for some reason and I had the 19 inch wheels on my 3 and the 19 inch base Gemini wheels on my Y. Way too stiff. Luckily, I sold it for what I purchased it for after owning it 6 months due to COVID and the lack of used cars…While I also had fit/finish issues galore, I’m not as concerned about that stuff in a car, so those things didn’t factor in my decision to get rid of the cars…HOWEVER, you cannot beat the TESLA charging network right now, which is preventing me from getting a non-TESLA full EV as a replacement. I’m now driving a RAV4 Prime and loving it. Hopefully the charging network improves….

I traded my 2020 Rav4 Hybrid for a 23 Model Y LR and the trade price offered by Tesla was only $800 less than what I paid in 2020. I paid $54.8 out the door not including the $7500 rebate. I also saved about $2600 in sales tax with the trade so I almost got full market value for the Toyota. So the price reduction and $7500 rebate made it the right time for me to go electric. I have only had the model Y for a few days. It passed a rigorous inspection i did before accepting delivery-The many you tube vids on what to look for were very helpful. The only thing I found that I may have them look at /fix was a very tiny blob of what appears to be clear coat on the frunk. There are a few minor variations in panel gaps but nothing egregious. We'll see how the car holds up-so far so good. I find the ride somewhat stiff but not much worse that my Mini Cooper. My understanding is the Y has more of a tight sport suspension and steering which yields a stiffer ride. It handles great and I don't mind the sacrifice of a stiffer ride. I don't like there is no ability to use Apple Carplay. Elon apparently isn't a fan of Apple. I general, the Tesla software is reported to be less than optimal. Of course I am biased toward the Y but this review is not consistent at best. He says there is a lot to like etc etc but then says pick any other EV but not this one....I would never pay for FSD in any car, let alone pay $15K for FSD in my Y . I might rent the enhanced auto pilot for kicks or on a long trip...

With no cross traffic cameras at the front and back I'm not quite sure how it's going to be safe at cross-roads and T junctions when sneaking forward.

I’d imagine somewhat of a love/hate relationship with the screen controls, but would think the voice control capability would mitigate this quite a bit.

I agree, almost nobody reviews the voice commands. How many are there? Is the recognition rate high? can you say things like increase following distance rather than complain about not remembering whether left is more or less.

Seems like your biggest issue with it is the FSD software and the cost of that software, not the actual vehicle itself.

Where in New York did you film? I grew up in Orange County and I miss the scenery.

I’m curious…have you ever taken a road trip in another full EV? If so, how in the world can you possibly suggest that a non Tesla is superior? Sure there are some other great cars out there, but do you honestly think the experience is better than what you get with the Tesla supercharger network? Isn’t this a vastly more important issue for EV owners than a beta FSD system? You bash Tesla a lot for this beta FSD system (particularly the phantom braking issue)…but honestly haven’t you already seen big improvements? Every time they update it gets better and better. I appreciate your honest review but I question the points you focused on and the final conclusions.

Well that was brave. Many do t like hearing discordant opinions. For those who believe the Y is the best, remember that an opinion is like a charging port, all BEVs have one. I largely agree with what he said as I’ve heard it from others. With respect to Tesla’s decision to stick solely with optical gear instead of going all out with “LiDAR” as well is a fully sincere and reasonable concern. One thing to give Roadshow and other automotive journalists credit on is the fact that they went out of there way to obtain one, putting their proverbial “money where their mouth” is as Tesla does not provide journalists with cars to review. BEVs are quite alluring at the moment with their great speed and efficiency, all of which Tesla set the bar. However, there are other manufacturers whose range exceeds their EPA numbers, including Tesla’s real world numbers. Speed and tech can’t be all Tesla has to go on as other manufacturers, again, are implementing similar tech to sway buyers.

At 4:20 Why not make said changes with voice commands rather than tapping through screens and thumbing knobs?

This just proves the adage, everything or anything is not for everyone. We absolutely love our Model Y long range with the white interior.
