I saw an archive film about Leyland tractors, the 384 was pulling a 5 bottom plow. The engine will stand up to a turbo and injection pump turned up. My dads 384 was set up for weekend tractor pulling, turbo, pump set "10%" over, a homemade weight rack and wheelie bars on the rear and STILL farmed with it for many years. You have a good tractor, do the tin work and run the piss out of it!

As long as the mechanicals are good, there and repairable - the rest is cosemtic! Dang good tractor and want to see more of this in the future I hope. Grandfather had nothing but Leyland's the last 40+ years he was alive and farming - 5 of them. One was a 384 and the rest 272s. Started with a 344 first which I located last year after being gone for 40+ years - now mine! Leyland will probably outlive me as that is how good they are! Cool! :-)

Exactly my thinking ! All runs and drives nice, just a gearbox leak and power steering leak to sort, and wire up the ignition, wont be to hard when we get started. Tinwork can be sorted aswell. So you managed to track down one of his old ones that must of been hard, alot of tractors end up with no v5 or reg plate come this age seems to be pot luck if they even have the reg!

@@MowersFamilyFarm More by accident that I found the 344 - the first Leyland my grandfather had purchased. Before that it was all Farmall. As weird as it sounds the salesman @ the dealership where he bought the 344 and all the others years later went out on his own and has his own dealership years later. Other implement dealers in the area want nothing to do with Leylands as way to practical/sensible and this one was traded in @ a John Deere dealership about 12-15 miles down the road so he got it from them. I saw it driving by - stopped to look @ it with no thoughts of it being Grandpas first one - he only had it about 1.5 years before trading it in on a 270. Anyway - the dealer/sales person recalled Grandpas first was a 344 and so did my older brother. When my Grandfather passed in 2006 they never got rid of one receipt or such from over 70 years on the farm so as somewhat of a joke I hunted thru the paperwork and found the receipt which had the serial numbers on it - they matched! The dealer/sales person later also found some more receipts he had from where he used to work - that implement dealer went bankrupt back in 2008 - and they matched also. It was and is in great shape as the guy who traded it in had purchased it after my grandfather traded it in for the larger Leyland. He in turn passed away and it was his son who traded it in on a brand new JD 1025 "weekend warrior" tractor I found out - thought it was to big. He loves his 1025 JD too as it spends lots and lots of time @ the JD dealership and he gets lots and lots of large 5 figure bills every time it goes in - all that high tech plastic electronic crap! So back in the family so to speak to stay and going to stay for my lifetime plus I have 2 nephews who are in love with it so that will be it's next home after I am gone. Wish someone would start making them again but in today's world way to practical and sensible - not enough high tech electronic crap on them that serves no purpose other than transferring lots of $$$ for parts/repair as the guy who traded it on the JD has found out multiple times and continues to do so! Looking forward to more videos on this as well as sometime I will post some involving the 344 later too as for the winter now mine is in storage and waiting for spring to come..... Old school vs. new high tech crap - will take the old anyday as far more practical/sensible! :-)

Such a great story! 👍 wish we could find some of my grandad/great grandads old tractors but that just would never ever happen lol, old pea viners, majors, tws, crawlers etc would be a nightmare to even start trying to. Most probly are long gone. Too much electronics in new tractors 🚜 old is gold.

Paid £600 for my 384, lot better condition tin work than yours but engine had seized from standing for years & water getting down the exhaust, the BMC 3.8 litre engines fitted to 384's are prone to cracked liners allowing water into the sump.

Good running tractor looked at alot worse for alot more money, old internationals, fiats, where they run on 2 cylinders, cabs need cutting off or hydraulics not working and they still want £1500 for them lol. Problem is the export market means theyd sell that leyland would sell tommorow exported to russia, africa, poland etc for a nice profit too lol 😆
