We BOUGHT a FRENCH CHATEAU SIGHT-UNSEEN!

During COVID, the Leach family fell in love with the online listing of Chateau de Puy Vidal. After a couple of months of deliberations and discussions, they decided to make an offer sight unseen, due to travel restrictions. They were finally able to fly to France to see it for a quick tour, but had to return to the US to get everything else ready.
After months of emails, negotiations and paperwork, Julia, Caroline and the Leach family are finally at the end of a long purchase journey. Join them as they fly from California to France to attend the final signing for Château du Puy Vidal, receive the keys and spend their first night under eight-hundred year-old roofs. Butterflies, fears and joys overtake them as the Château becomes their new home.

Bonne chance. Bon continuation! You have made a bold move. The responsibility is enormous. My recommendation is to learn French as quickly as possible. I moved to France nine years ago and opened a chambres d’hôtes 99% of my visitors were French so my conversational French happened pretty quickly. I would love to visit when you are open to the public visiting. The chateau is very beautiful and once you shake off the nerves you will enjoy you new lifestyle more and more. I live in the Loire vallée. Bravo to you all.

Ohhh, and what an absolute blessing to be able to keep the gardener and cleaner! At least they are very familiar with the chateau, grounds & community. Hopefully you'll be able to also lean on them on other things as you get your bearings.

Congrats! Your description of forever feeling like a foreigner will diminish as time passes,as you get comfortable with the town,& shops. However taking French language lessons so you comprehend what people are saying to you is important. Learning to speak French so you can communicate with neighbours, shop keepers, & tradesmen, will be the key to feeling at home in a new country. Making new French friends who do not speak English will force you to speak French. Adjusting to a different pace of life, where you must wait for service from tradesmen, deliveries etc will be a big adjustment. Unlike in America, things are done at a much slower pace in France. Business hours are different, shops close for lunch 12-2p.m. The norms of how many hours of work per week is regulated by the government, family life takes priority. Meal planning, grocery shopping ,food preparation, cooking, baking, and then eating and wine drinking are all a ritual. Expectations must be adjusted in a new land.

You have just joined the growing exclusive community of French château owners born outside France. You are obviously not alone. You will have a huge support there in France, reach out to them. You also have a huge group in your homeland cheering you on, wishing we could do the same, but are content in living vicariously through you. You hit the jackpot with this most gorgeous property! You are blessed. Shun any feeling of regret and/or fear, embrace the new with every fiber of your being, every single second of every day. Keep making amazing videos. You have our support ❤ 💙 🙌

As most don't realize just how much Americans & French have in common. The French greatly impacted the independence of the US. Also each country is very proud of it's industries, craftsmanship and lovers of freedom/independence. Looking forward to future adventures with you all.

I found your channel by chance via Chateau Lalande, and I'm hooked watching your amazing journey together. Wishing you every success and best of luck. Hopefully, someday I will be able to visit your beautiful chateau ❤ its my dream to stay at a French chateau.

Congratulations. As someone who has moved and lived in foreign countries for many years, the first move is the hardest. You will always be an expat (something I actually enjoy) but you'll find your groove, make some friends, and embrace this new chapter and life. It's a chance to reimagine who and what you want to be.

Lovely property but don’t understand the constant indignation about lack of towels, sheets, glasses, plates etc. When you buy a house in the US you would not expect the seller to leave those with the house so why would it be any different in France? I thought you were fortunate there were beds left behind.

I was. In the last video the previous owner had the nerve to take their outdoor furniture with them. Oh the travesty.

I'm thrilled to see this video and so excited for you. My family lived in the chateau from 1960 to 1964-5. Parts of the chateau had been converted into individual apartments and rented out to families who were living on US Base in Bracon. I was 4 months old when we arrived so have limited memories. I hoped that I would be able to see the chateau again in my lifetime, if not in real time, then at least as a voyeur. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.

This is a huge commitment, now its a done deal and I feel so happy for you all. When your Dad came through the French doors and rang the bell... "Welcome home" - says it all, it looked like a scene in a movie! Great video, left me wanting more... 💗🦘

What are you talking about , you look very french to me , they come in all shape and form in France , in fact l went to school in france with people that are french and look like you . You are being very dramatic for nothing . The true is if you love france they will love you , this is the best way to be accepted in any country . You look like a beautiful family and l wish you the best. France is very cosmopolitan , you are going to fit right in . SMILE and be HAPPY.. this is a magnificent chateau wowoww

How exciting for you all to be in your beautiful Chateau at long last. I’m sure you will soon be so settled into life there. The beauty of the surrounding countryside and those gorgeous views from the house should be enough to calm anyone’s spirits! I loved seeing your arrival in France and look forward to your future vlogs. I am watching from New Zealand so I think of it as my ‘armchair travels.’😅 Thank you for including us all in your family’s new adventure and hopefully we can see more of the inside of the Chateau again too? 🏰👌💖

You did it! You really did it. Congratulations. I would have been just as anxious and emotional. It's like...now your life can begin. You will refer to everything by "before the chateau" (BC) and "after we bought the chateau" (AC). I send you a thousand blessings from S. Carolina. I will be here excitedly waiting for your every upload. Yay!!!!
