My favourite thing is hearing the first choir rehearsal after maybe eight months' work, and you get them into the town hall, the conductor's there, and you sit back at the hall and you hear this first fantastic sound. You think, wow, all that eight months' work is absolutely worth it. It's something that really inspires you to keep going for the next 10 days.
I think seeing so many people from so many walks of life come together to sing and listen and enjoy. I love particularly when I'm out managing pop-ups out around the city and at some of our regional locations, and the people who are genuinely surprised. We make their day better by having some singing thrust upon them as they're enjoying a coffee, or even if they're just wandering around the market and suddenly a choir just bursts into song.
People stop, and kids stop, and they have such a big smile on their face as they enjoy a free impromptu performance, and I think that's the best thing. Working with the team and bringing the event to Hobart in winter. I just love the fact that it brings everyone together in winter.
It has to be the big sing, like two and a half, three thousand people coming out, fires, fabulous food, incredible entertainment. The community coming together and singing as a whole is like nothing else you can experience across the festival. For me, it's the big sing.
In the industry, it's been a first for me, and joining the arts space means I get to use my business skills in a creative space, and the team I work with and what we stand for as an organisation is something I'm so proud to be a part of. I love that we're sustainable and have a lot of focus on accessibility and inclusivity, because music and singing is something that everybody deserves to get around, and I love that I get to work as part of a team and an organisation that really encourages that. So there's so many things in our program that are inviting people to come and be a part of, and just to sing.
It's joyous. I love the sense of unity that it brings to people. I love the collaboration.
I love that we get to put on this amazing event that brings people together and gives people so much joy. I find it so rewarding.
