WE ARE THE MODS - BRIGHTON BANK HOLIDAY MOD WEEKEND 2023
Фильм және анимация
This year's collection of shots from Brighton's Mod Bank Holiday Weekender. (last year's is here: • Mod Weekend 2022 Colle... )
2023 and some new faces and interviews, plus, some familiar faces return to Brighton, and even Phil Daniels sends you all a message!
This time we've gone for a classic Academy ratio/Kodak Vision 250D colour filmic look in this mini doc. Graded in Davinci Resolve with Dehancer Pro 7 - superb plugin.
NB There are a few sound problems in some interviews due to faulty microphone and I apologise for having to use camera's built-in mic (always make me sound louder than interviewee) which isn't great when there's all that noise from the scooters. But its ok, and shouldn't spoil things.
Images shot on Lumix S5IIX and the 20-60 kit lens.
Graded with Davinci Resolve and Dehancer Pro v7.

I was an original London mod back in '64-'66 (now 75) and fortunate at the time to live in the West End. A regular at the Scene, Last Chance and Flamingo doing the all-nighters.... Hung up my full length leather and mohair suit long time ago. We Soho mods didn't have scooters main mode of transit was the tube. I am now retired living in the sought of France. Great memories.
Alf Garnett wasn’t happy when you said it was a bit warm for parkas! 😂🤣💀
And we are the rockers lol. 🤘👊
Phil Daniels total legend, brilliant stuff many many thanks for this.
Great video Nick. Best one I've seen of Brighton 23. Actually talking to people and getting some background on them, their scooters, their home towns, their music interests. Too many silent videos with scooters just following scooters down the road going too fast to see what the scooters look like. Brilliant, keep the content coming.

Love this film , especially the interviews with normal none celebrities. It's great to hear what people from all over the country and world think. Cheers from a Trojan Skin in Northern England.
Great scoots great scene great music great fashion keep the faith ✊
Im 44 years young and im a mod, infact i was a mod long before i even knew it. Listening to The beatles The stones The kinks The who The small faces Humble pie The flurtations Dusty Sandy shaw Marianne faithful kim weston Skip bifferty Brooker T and the mg's Dobie gray Dr feelgood The secret affair The jam The style council The lambrettas The specials Bad manners. All on vinyl. On 1960's record players and stereograms. Anyone remember a late 70's band called the in mates. The list is flipping endless nine below zero, oh'' yes. Loved it when they were on the young ones. Collecting records and repairing record players. I bought 2 vespas in 2001 a 1996 px200 & a MK1 3 speed 1964 V90. I still have the V90 douglas in powder coated baby blue. Gosh its in my heart so much the passion can make me emotional. I was born too late 78. If only i had a frikking time machine. I'll always be a mod. lovely to see our friend gas pants phil daniels here 😉 Ive met toyah a few times! she signed my quadrophenia dvd. I just wanna add that i wish i could join all you people. I know all about the music of the times. I almost forgot to mention my love of soul/motown. Hows about the punk bands the damned & 999, i got right into them when i was a teenager. I loved it when rod stewart got together with ronnie isley of the isley brothers, the music video of this old heart of mine in a 60's mod themed style, the backing girls' oh'' the backing girls😍 The Fine young cannibals video of their hit song good thing is totally mind blowing. Reasons to be a mod. Gosh im totally inspired😊

Just amazing. And I see brother Roy is there with his beauty Union Jack Scoot! We Are The Mods! I rode my 64 GT200 from Toronto Canada to Vancouver Canada then down the PCH from the US border with Canada to San Fransisco. well over 8000 Miles in a single trip over 4.5 weeks
Mate absolutely brilliant thank you 👍👍
Great video, you caught the vibe well 👌🏻
Classic banter mate!
I was a Coventry mod and had a brand new Lambretta SX150 in 1967, red and white. I took it to Brighton once. I'm amazed there are so many Lambrettas and Vespas still existing in running condition. I now live in the USA. I never see Italian scooters here, all I see are the Chinese knock-offs and even they are uncommon.
Great video Nick. And that's from a motorbike rider. Even aged 73 I am still too young to have been either a Mod or Rocker but now in my dotage having watched so many video's like yours I think it might be time to sell the bike and get a Scooter. That GP3OO sounds very tempting.

Scooters have small wheels and are very unstable compared to larger-wheeled bikes. The exception is the Aprilia but they are a kind of scooter/bike hybrid.
Good to see some humor back in the scene!

@27.10 the guy talking about Long John Baldry. I worked with his nephew years ago and I was on the phone to a buyer arranging a meeting with our managers. When I said the name of our manager the guy on the phone said ha ha Long John Baldry. I'd never heard of Long John Baldry so the joke was lost on me. His nephew overheard my call and asked " were they talking about my uncle?" That's how I found out who Long John Baldry was!

HELP!!! Do any of you know a scooterist Stephen 'Spider' Webb originally from SE London? He had an accident years back and lost the use of his right arm due to a spinal injury (Brachial Plexus Avulsion) I was a friend of his 45+ years ago, a motorcyclist who lost the use of his right arm due to a BPA! I I eventually put a trike back on the road but he stuck with scooters and apparently was quite a face on the scene! Any help in putting us back in touch would be much appreciated...
Wish I could have my 61tv s2 back, will Mansfield monsters sc!!!

What is this ? the bikes are cool with the chrome, i especially like the thin one. It seems like a mindset to be a mod ? this kind of strange skinny clothes. Was this what they did in britain in the 80's ?

Drinking and riding not cool...................
Sorry...but these people are not mods. The mods I knew from the late 80s to early 90s wore sharp clothes that weren't so loud and stripey. Not a badge or patch in sight...and didn't take scooters that seriously. The few scooters around were plain with no mirrors or lights. Our main mode of transport were classic sports cars. These folks are strange. More a parody of mod than the real deal. That said...if it makes them happy...

The real mods were in the 1960s. The 80s was a revival but not the same.
