I started with TBS a few years ago then got really into BN a bit later on i was too young to know about them when they were all getting started and yeah I don't think I'll ever stop listening to either group helped me through some really tough times. Jesse John and Adam are like my idols lol saw BN back in October for the first time live and tbs for the first time the October before that. I like Thrice a lot too so I feel ya. seems like there arent a lot of new bands doing that kind of music anymore.

Do you like the band "the used" ? senses fail are pretty good one too.... tbs got me through allot of hard times aswell yeah they came out in like 03 or something they been around awhile dude adam lazara is a god I always thought it was weird how john and jesse look so much alike but their not related yeah most new bands just scream not that I don't like screaming bands but be kool to see more artist who just sang aswell

Actually quite dig this cover, sounds tight and true to the original. Appreciating the chorus harmonies and that they didn't try to scream 'die young and save yourself'. You can tell the guitar/vocal dude is used to just backing vocals though! Not convincing in Jesse's verse parts haha

Jordan doesn't isn't backing vocals, We Are The In Crowd are a joint vocals band, granted with their newest album (Weird Kids) Tay has taken more of a lead but in general both Tay and Jordan share vocals, especially live.

Sing King Karaoke nope, the "Die Young and save yourself" needs to be screamed, prettttty integral to the whole composition of the song. It not being screamed eliminates the roughness of the chorus.

They're not trying to top Brand New, this is simply a tribute to music that means something to them. I'm not too big on In Crowd's stuff, it's not at all bad, just doesn't appeal to me. Brand New is something pretty special to me though, and with that being said, this cover is pretty good. These two bands are completely different styles, so it's interesting to hear their take on this song, I definitely like it.

Honestly as a die hard Brand New fan and someone who has never listened to We Are The In Crowd, this cover isn't bad in the slightest. I do miss Jesse's raw, harsh vocals and the screams in the chorus, but the exchange between these two vocalists who compliment each other so well almost makes up for it. The instrumental is very faithful. A very "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach. This is a great cover and I may listen to more of these guys in the near future.

  • @TreyMeans3

    @TreyMeans3

I generally agree, but it almost comes off as too "faithful" to me. I like their version, but it sounds like a muted rehash of the powerful original. They used the EXACT same breakdown, drum fills, bridges, chords etc. everything. I would have liked these guys to put a little bit of their own spin on it.

Big fan of Brand New; Big fan of We Are The In Crowd. Love the original; really enjoyed the cover. There are different types of covers: Complete re-workings based on the covering artists interpretations, acoustic versions of full band songs, etc, etc, and then there's a band who likes one band just playing that song and giving what they can to it - like this one. It's a different style to WATIC's normal music so it's a change for them. You like it, you hate it. It's irrelevant. They enjoyed it & I enjoyed it.

They did a great job considering Brand New is extremely hard to cover. Jesse Lacey spent years mastering Deja Entendu. You can tell so much effort went into this entire album, and that mixed with the timing of its release created a cult following of loyal Brand New fans that still love them today. The saddest part, in my opinion, is that Brand New never got the credit they deserved for this record....not that they ever wanted it anyway, but my point still holds true. I believe this band's music will be more respected and mimicked as we age and the band grows older...I mean, I never thought I'd hear a cover like this of them. First thing I thought..."Wow, I must be getting old". Then I was overcome with happiness; I was happy because it made me feel like there is a new wave of fans that appreciate Brand New and their epic lyrics, creativeness and talent as much as I always have and still do. ALLZ I'm saynz izzzz I'm sooo excited to see what they come out with for their final studio album! The band said they will definitely be releasing something by the end of 2015. Whether it will be an EP of 7 songs or the traditional LP of 14 songs...who knows? Either way it is going to be EPIC and much needed since it has been 5 years since Daisy released. Brand New fo-life!!

It's strange that in the comments section of each video I can see such a contrast. It might just be that I didn't read enough comments but it seems like on the original, people are generally saying this version is shit and people should stop comparing the two but on this video, I've seen a lot of Brand New fans saying WATIC have done a good job and expressing positive opinions on the cover. Personally I love both versions, but I'm kinda biased towards We Are The In Crowd's version because the band are just more to my preference and they nailed an already good song for me.

  • @apricotpeel

The difference you observe is probably related to the dichotomy of two different groups of people. People who would only watch Brand New videos and rip on anything else (and thus only comment within that small circle), vs. people who will watch other videos and expose themselves to other interpretations (and thus actually comment at that location, and outside their narrow circle of comfort). I only came across this because it was linked from the Brand New video of the same song. I'm not an instant fan of this band, WATIC; but they did a good job of the song, in their own style, which is different; but different is not equal to bad. That would be like saying Peter Capaldi is a terrible Doctor because he's totally different than Matt Smith. They are their own interpretations of the same theme. They are different, and tell different stories within the same framework. I'm talking about Brand New vs. WATC, for those with ears to hear.

Because the original was way more emotional. It's not a bad cover, but Brand New did it way better.

Overall it was a good cover, considering how hard Brand New is to cover and such. There are a few minor things that could add to the overall original song feel, such as a the verses, where the whispering wasn't as effective sometimes. Then the chorus when they have "to die young and save yourself," Jesse Lacey gives it more of a screaming sound, which gives it a different effect. Also, the bass was not as clean as the original, but you can't blame that on Mike solely. It was a pretty good cover, and it's really acknowledging the impact of Brand New on the music industry, which is always a good thing. One big suggestion I have for if they were to ever do it again would be to give Tay most of the verse except for maybe the "Up the stairs: the station where the act becomes the art of growing up" part and give Jordan most of the chorus, especially the "to die young and save yourself part"

good point, but then there's no point in covering exactly. I think they add their own little twist to it

nah just my opinion as a musician for over a decade and in the process of getting a degree in this sort of thing. I absolutely love both versions but this one is simply better conceptually and audibly. Feel free to disagree but saying I snort blocks is almost as dumb and presumptuous as me calling you dumb.

For WATIC fans who haven't heard the original, I would suggest watching the video for the original song. Brand New is an amazing band, and though WATIC did a pretty good job covering a great song, the original holds more emotion and more meaning. After all, Brand New wrote the song from their own life experiences and poured all of their feelings into one track.

Cover songs that are exact duplicates of the original leave a lot to be desired. Mix it up and make it your own. Just my opinion. That snare sounds pretty sweet though

I love Brand New and I, too, am disappointed in the comments. We are the in crowd did pretty good and honestly, if you had a band that went big and someone out of their garage started singin your song, its the concept of knowing your music did something for somebody. not whether or not they sang it well.

I think a lot of the hostility originates out of the fact this video seems to be kinda spreading into brand new vids with ignorant less than graceful comments about it's supposed superiority... lol... It's unfortunate, however covers on KZread kinda tend to generate a lot of this back and fourth... To Brand New fans' credit, I've seen far worse, like when "Panic!" did a live Radiohead cover... That was some vicious criticism.... The main point is to just try and be civil, it performing, releasing, and monetizing[... I think? iunno about that, either way Hopeless uploaded it...] this performance We Are The In Crowd accepts that Brand New fans will pass judgement, and there's nothing wrong with expressing sincere critical assessments... It's unfortunate that there's so much smack talkery on both sides, that leads BN fans to feel they have to enter guns blazing, however really, for KZread this is pretty good... Some fairly thought out comments, and even most of the rage comments I read are more simply opinionated than bigoted[ex: No irrelevant homophobia, etc.] compared to a lot of fan feuds[ex: Muse PreTwilight-Supremacists vs Muse Twilight Fans, Blink-182 vs Blink Spawned Projects, Beliebers, various other artists, etc...]... Like the criticism that the lyrics are kinda nonsensical in a duet, especially one with a female vocalist due to the subject matter is a legitimate argument. And it's okay to discuss that, though I agree it's best kept civil... Don't let any of it get to you though! =] Frankly this is pretty good for KZread.... Guess Google+ comment evolution is perhaps working somewhat... lol :P
