"We Are Soldiers Still: A Journey Back to the Battlefields of Vietnam" by Joseph Galloway

Traveling back to the red-dirt battlefields, commanders and veterans from both sides make the long and difficult journey from old enemies to new friends. After a trip in a Russian-made helicopter to the Ia Drang Valley in the Central Highlands, with the Vietnamese pilots using vintage U.S. Army maps and Galloway's Boy Scout compass to guide them, they reach the hallowed ground where so many died. All the men are astonished at how nature has reclaimed the land once scarred by bullets, napalm, and blood. As darkness falls, the unthinkable happens-the authors and many of their old comrades are stranded overnight, alone, left to confront the ghosts of the departed among the termite hills and creek bed.

I've watched many of Mr Galloway's talks and this the most insightful. Incredibly personal & enlightening - thank-you to all involved in getting this recorded for our education.

Combat veterans both sides have a bond. Only another soldier friend or foe can relate...FACT. Critical decisions are made that impact lives forever...

I look at my experience as just a experience. For each soldier it was difference. The same battle could of been different for each. The same battle for one soldier it could of been devastating for another to his left or right could of been a so what experience. Very interesting. Each man same battle. Who could explain.

History walking. It’s too bad that politicians don’t learn from history.

Around 48:00, I totally agree with Galloway. The true end of this battle would have been a much more emotional ending to the movie.

Sgt Savage should have gotten the Medal if Honor for his actions on that knoll

"Several German Brigades, in the French Indochina War" = fiction. It is one of the recurring myths of the French effort. There you go, I helped.

More glorification of a horrible and unjustified war. Old Galloway made a career out his adventures in Vietnam. Should have spent his time making restitution to the country illegally attacked by the US.
