My mother was a WWII child, having been born in 1933, in her old age she would often say every one will have to go back to waste not want not. People throughway so much food, and many other things as well, how right she was. My daughter often says how right granny was, it's a question of live and learn.

My grandaughter is 13 and has a few shifts in a hotel. Both my sons worked in the hotel trade during school holidays . It’s great experience for them , gives them a work ethic , sense of earning money and how to save and spend . They loved it 😊

The day was that kids looked for opportunities to work for money. They took paper routes, mowed grass, did errands (shopping), walked the neighbor's dog, painted fences, and picked fruit for farmers. With labor laws to protect children now, much of that is not allowed. I cannot remember the last time a kid came by my house asking to mow the grass - 25 years maybe. My son at 9 years old on up mowed grass with a used mower and would pull it around the neighborhood knocking on doors. He made good money. He started buying stuff for himself. He wanted to work. He still does, and is a workaholic. I wish some kids WOULD come by the house. I've got a lot of grass to mow, a car to wash......

I have recently given up mayonnaise ( from a supermarket) and wraps and switched to olive oil. Currently, i feel so much better! I had already ( mostly) given up sugar ( occasional square of dark chocolate) because I had been diagnosed as a pre diabetic and I'm determined not to become diabetic. Hard at first, but doable. However, we will see if this feeling better with more mental clarity and energy lasts into winter. Go for it Karen, you can do this ( and experiences like the fish and chip incedent are good for proving to yourself that you are on the right track!)

Sometimes it's not the carbs that do us in, it's the oils. Fried take outs like fried fish, fried potatoes and fried fritters are so loaded in old, old oils that foods are refried in, our bodies don't handle it well. Much of it gets stored in our bodies, because refried oils become chemically like varnish. Have you ever had a pan you fried things in and noticed that there was a shiny gold colored deposit on the inside of the pan? Well, that's from the heated oil, and it's very similar to varnish. Our mitochondria cannot process this varnish, so deposits it in our arteries and other places in our bodies. It is similar to the hydrogenated vegetable oils that clog our arteries. They were supposed to remove it from our food supply, but they didn't, and you can still find it in processed foods in the store. Oils under repeated heating turn into something else not found in nature. If you had eaten fresh broiled chicken, a baked potato and a banana custard, I daresay you would feel better. But I cave also when I'm looking at a menu of tasty but destructive foods I haven't had in a long time. Then I always feel like garbage the next day. On another note, sounds like you had a great time. Working part-time agrees with you!

Carbs become sugar, too much causes fatty liver and cirrhosis. Fats are thing that depends on which one you use.

Pendulums always start swinging back the other way Nature rebalances all the time People are returning to more frugal and self sufficient ways out of necessity. It's way overdue. These ultra processed convenient foodlike substances are killing us.To thrive we must find a healthier way.

Hint: If perchance you have another incidence like that with "spikes" immediately drink lots of plain water and go for a 10 minute walk. This does reduce them to a more manageable level quicker than doing what you feel like doing which is just falling asleep or "crashing". From one who knows.

I grew up picking berries, starting at age four. I think I ate more than I actually earned! I didn’t have to, but all my friends did it, so I did too. For good reason child labor laws exist, but I am sorry that opportunities like this do not exist anymore as it helped instill in me a work ethic that is sorely lacking in today’s youth for the most part.

Our grandson is 18, just finished school. Never done a day’s paid or volunteer work in his life. You can tell by his lack of confidence when speaking to people that he has little life experience. Sad that he hasn’t been encouraged to branch out and gain confidence. Now he has to go out and try and get a job for the first time. Our other grandchildren were working on Saturdays whilst at school, the difference is very apparent

I didn't realize you were testing. Many things can affect the levels such as inflammation and illness. I am experimenting to see what foods and how much of those foods affect mine. Simple reason is body chemistry changes and heck, even the changes in the seasons can affect it. It is good that you are checking so you can see what works and what doesn't.
