Daisuke Ishiwatari is the composer, Naoki Hashimoto is the male vocalist you hear 99.9999999% of the time, Jamison Boaz does some backing male vocals in a couple of songs like the growling backing vocals in Love The Subhuman Self was him, then if you hear a female vocalist it's Aisha unless you're listening to Extras which is sung by Molly Daisy Daisuke himself is just a one man army. He can compose, he can play the guitar, he also creates all of the designs for the characters and writes all of the story. He and people on his team have mentioned a couple times how he has just a gargantuan amount of notes detailing the characters even outside of what's been shown in the story so far. Dude is just insane Naoki has his own Japanese band called Outrage, and a funny fact is that his band was referenced in the games story before he ever started working on the series. Sol Badguy created an all powerful weapon in the past called the Outrage, but split it into 8 pieces because it was too unwieldy and dangerous

Outrage even has a songs named “Midnite Carnival” which is a reference to I-No’s boss theme

If you’re curious in guilty gear lore Japan basically gets nuked off the map and so every survivor is just built different. May is also Japanese and has super strength, baiken is arguably one of the strongest swordswoman in the world despite missing an arm and an eye. Her whole deal in earlier games was revenge for japans destruction and in strive she’s kind of realizing that her revenge was self destructive and she needed a new path in life.

Not Japan's destruction. Specifically, the destruction of her village and the slaughter of her people in the Colony by rogue gears under the control of HC; she was not born by the time of the destruction of Japan (she would be over 100 years old if that was the case, we know she and Anji knew each other as children, Anji is not nearly that old).

Not necessarily forgiveness, but purification. The first part of the song is literally a cycle of Purification, Violence, Despair, Purification.

Guilty Gear Strive is probably the most approachable fighting game out right now, so it is a great one to start with.

i feel like now that we’re 3 (nearly 4) seasons in, it isn’t as easy as it was at the start, but a lot of the newer fighting games are food for people to try, from street fighter, to granblue, etc.

Daisuke considers Necessary Discrepancy his Magnum Opus and named the entire Album after it. I'd recommend checking it out.

Great stuff lads, hope Necessary Discrepancy makes it into the next reaction. Its a track that took me a couple listens to before I got it but now its one of my top GG tracks

fun fact: if mirror of the world was defined by a genre, it would be progressive japanese folk doom metal

My two recommendations are Hellfire and Extras, Hellfire because the song is my personal favorite and the story the song tells is great. And Extras is another of my favorites. Also, one thin to note in Extras, the entire song only has one vocalists, so keep that in mind for the chorus of the song.

Gotta react to Nagoriyuki’s theme, A.B.A’s theme, and Asuka R#’s theme

So, further lore explanations Ky is one of three kings of the United Kingdoms of Illyria, which is basically an amalgamation of the UN and the Holy Roman Empire. He is a war hero from the Crusades, catholic man who showed no mercy to any Gear he came across, to the point even Sol was put off by how much of a merciless machine he was during the War. After the war, he is placed as a king alongside Leo Whitefang (you'll see him soon) and a man named Daryl (not playable, he's a very serious, cold, calculating type). Each rules one of the three nations that make up the United Kingdoms. There's just one problem, Ky fell in love with Dizzy, who is the daughter of Sol Badguy and Justice (Aria Hale post-Gear Conversion). So he fell in love with the daughter of Public Enemy Number 1, and has been hiding both her and his son he had with her (Sin Kiske, you'll get to him as well) from the public. So he's conflicted between his duties as king, his past as a holy soldier, and his personal affections. Even though the Crusades are over, they're still fresh memories of the public, as it only ended a few years before Strive, so there's still plenty of resentment towards Gears. The reveal of the King and War Hero being married to the enemy could cause hysteria and harm to his family, so he's stuck, but hiding it could be even worse and feels wrong. May is simple. She's a war orphan who was taken in by Johnny(another character you will get to) alongside many other girls during the Crusades. She developed a MAJOR crush for Johnny, which he doesn't reciprocate and thus frustrates her to hell and back (especially considering Johnny is a manwhore). Zato is a long story. Zato was taken in by the Assassin Guild when he was a child, before Slayer (Vampire who just returned in Strive recently) resigned. He gained the Forbidden Beast, Eddie, in exchange for his eyes. Forbidden Beasts are parasites that were created from Gear Cells to combat Gears, to the point that their shared cells causes a response in them to make them fight one another. Due to his newfound strength, he quickly rose in the ranks of the deteriorating Guild and became its leader. As leader, Zato took in Millia Rage (Don't remember if y'all have seen her yet, she's another character though) (and another character known as Venom who has since retired to work at a bakery) when she was out on the streets fending for herself, and had her trained to be an assassin as well. They would come to fall for one another, but, Zato was kinda a prick at the time. Millia grew sick of him, betrayed him, and deserted the Guild. Zato would later be imprisoned, and curse Millia's name the whole time. This is all prior to the events of the first game. He is broken out of jail by Testament (again, another character) near the start of the first game, to cause bloodshed to break the seal on Justice. By the end of the game, his body is weakened to the point that Eddie can move on his own, and thus takes over Zato's body, Zato's last words in this life being his cry for help. In the next game, Zato is actually called Eddie. His body is deteriorating slowly, but surely. It is suggested that Millia kills Eddie and buries Zato in the next game. In Xrd, the Conclave has taken Zato's body in, and performs a trial run of the Art of Resurrection on his form, thus bringing both Zato and Eddie back. They then put him back into prison, but he didn't really do anything or try to break out, despite Eddie prodding him to do so, until Millia was nearby. Eddie has learned that his path in his previous life is suicide, and thus just seems to want to fight people alongside Zato, and coexist, which is why Eddie does all the emoting, as, due to the resurrection Zato cannot feel anymore. He is emotionally dead, but he can remember what made him happy, and the wrongs he did in his past life. So he persists now, to protect and serve Millia as her shadow, to make up for the way he treated her and others in his previous life. Wishing he could feel that warmth, that sweetness, from his memories, but with it always just out of reach. Baiken has BAGGAGE. She grew up in the Colony, which is the remnants of Japan after Justice wiped the nation off the face of the Earth (I'm not joking, the island doesn't even exist anymore). Her life was fine, for a while. Then, Gears being controlled by That Man (The Original, corrupted into the form that is Happy Chaos, another character) ransacked her village, slaughtering everyone and resulting in the loss of her right arm and eye. She swore revenge upon That Man for the murder of her friends and family, and her entire life was defined by this vengeance. She was molded by her overwhelming hatred, reinforcing her natural warrior personality, and became bitter to the point you can't argue that she's really been living her life, just existing through it to reach the ending as fast as she can. Her one true friend is Anji Mito (another character, childhood friend) who genuinely loves her. She tolerates him, to the point that him putting himself between her and her vengeance shook her entire drive, to the point she was unsure if she actually could seek out her revenge, as that would mean killing him. She thus, mellows out a bit in Xrd. No longer a vessel for rage, she takes on an extremely dry and haughty persona, now prioritizing the protection of her people over her own vendetta, which still boils within her. But, her song here covers some important plot in the DLC of Strive, which I won't be spoiling because y'all said you might check out the Strive Story. A vague idea to keep in mind is that she's still thinking on if she can go through with her vengeance after all, and wether or not she should be throwing her life away seeking it out, and this has very important ties to the plot of said DLC story.

Guys love the Guilty Gear Osts. This is just my favorite themes that I really want to see if possible: Slayer, Bedman, Sin Kiske and either Axl or Asuka, if you guys wanted to make a for songs only reaction. Also, Potemkin is also a banger if you want to hear a really rock opening.
