'We are forgotten': Inside the UK's late life homelessness crisis
Sky News was granted unprecedented access to one of the busiest homeless drop-in centres in London, run by Crisis as new figures reveal that homelessness in later life is up 13% from last year.
The housing crisis will be a major issue for the next government. Should they win the general election, the Labour Party is promising 1.5 million new homes in the next five years, while the Tories are promising 1.6 million new homes.

Also, there is a real shortage of people in the trade for home renovations, maintenance, building. Of course I wouldn't want to force anyone to relocate or do a job that wasn't what the were suitable or capable of doing, but if a man like Trevor was interested in doing contract work in another county where life is cheaper is this a solution? Training, a relocation budget, a set up budget... Then he starts to be a tax payer, worker and just someone back connected with society. @@sandrafinbar Ok my bad I misread. Whilst it's better than living on the streets and might work for a few people it's still not really a good long term solution, more like a short term fix. Most counties that have cheaper living do so because there's generally less work and wages are lower, plus that work tends to be limited to just a few industries. On top of that a lot of property agents and landlords are not wiling to take on anyone that doesn't have a full time job or that can't pay a significant amount of rent upfront so any person doing that needs to secure work somewhere before they can even think about relocating. The anwser really is for governments to build affordable homes and stop letting the rich buy up all the land and property in certain areas.

What a lovely society we live in, older people left on the streets in addition to all the rest failed by the UK's housing system. Councils, and the laughable housing system are at the centre of this national disgrace. But in general it's our society's contempt for homeless people. "300,000 houses" were supposed to be built and that didn't happen. Two years ago the government trumpeted a £654 million homelessness funding package, promised for councils to target support at those who need it the most. It was part of a wider £2 billion package of support to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping over the next 3 years.

I agree and I've been on the housing list for the past 15 years with no light in sight I'm hoping but I do agree it's unfair we need a government who puts our citizens first how can we be homeless in the country were born in is disgraceful and scrap the right to buy thatchers policy has depelted our 5 million social housing stock for the past 40 years! 🥲
I always wonder about their family or friends. Dont they have anyone to help them to avoid homelessness

Exactly. Also if he really wanted he could call the council who would put him in temporary accommodation but he doesn't cos he prefers a pity party and begging for pennies instead

@@anthonyfaucy2761 there's no housing left for more people unfortunately. It's gone to poor immigrants

Give Reform a chance!
People set his tent alight. There’s a lot of disturbed people out there.
Here in America our senior citizens 'had' Apts, but were priced out. They have income, they just can't find an affordable place to live
They have plenty of council houses for immigrants though
Why should people work FT for someone if they are not receiving a fair livable salary. I'm beginning to agree with Gen Z to just stuff it. Companies are too greedy.
There's a housing problem because the government just keep letting more & more people on our little island
Yet the UK have money to house Muslim Asylum seekers in hotels who come here illegally, but not our own British homeless?? Something doesn’t add up, does it.
Shocking conservative mess 😢
VOTE REFORM.
sod that,If I become homeless,I rather sleep in a tent and sleeping bag,Or,I go some where out in the middle of no where,Build my self a home,Cant be nothing worth than no roof and no bed to sleep in,Sleeping outside shop door ways, late at night,I be more scared thinking,Who is about,Could be horrible people ready to stab me up,That goes on a lot now days,Rather go some where,Where I can feel safe
Hotels?
These men simply have to go to France and come back on a dinghy on the channel and theyll get free hotel stay and 2 meals a day paid for by us... (yes thats sarcasm highlighting how awful our immigration system is)
This country don't care.
