As a zerg player, I often 12pool randoms, and I think you perfectly summed up why it's a good idea. feels like random players usually assume they'll be the aggressor, so they're usually not ready for the 12pool in my experience lower on the ladder

Not really a fair comparison since they have different goals. uThermal streams for fun and to be an entertainer, maybe the most important thing in his current work is to be in a good mood. Serral is playing to be the best in the world, you watch him for high level sc2 content, not for the personality.

Just to switch things up a little, the games are ofcourse very entertaining and that’s Why we come back to every episode. But just as a one of episode with some extra spice, would be interesting to see if the extra pressure would effect the gameplay/desicion making.

I've listened to a few streamers on laddering and playing in tournaments. To be honest it seems like they're two different animals. Serral has mentioned before that you can't read too much into ladder performance (and he's been rank 1 for ages!). I wouldn't beat yourself up about the tournaments. You played special, one of the strongest terrans outside of korea, there is no shame in being knocked out by special.

I watch most of your content and i really like, one thing i observed(hope it`s true) in the games you lose(apart from ones with a really good build order or blind counter), you sometimes pull back on the aggression with some players, example for the guy that expanded like crazy and defended in the beginning part with 2-3 units(i think it was in the 500k qualifier), a classic Mark attack with fast 4-6 reapers would have worked. Always rooting for you and wish you 🍀 for the future.

Thermal, your efficiency, minimal supply blocks, and consistently accurate decision-making truly set you apart. Watching someone at the pinnacle of this game provide commentary is a rare and valuable experience, and I always find your insights enlightening. As a Protoss player, your tip about using only one sentry for scouting has made me reconsider my approach. Previously, I always had it with my army, leading to quick losses. Your advice has the potential to significantly enhance my gameplay. I do have a question, though. In one of your earlier mentions, you explained that as a Protoss player in PvP, you used to stick to two bases and go for a Colossi-centric deathball strategy. I'm curious why this approach is no longer as prevalent. Could you elaborate on the shift in strategy?

Hi Marc! Maybe you should try leaving the commentary for later if you compete at a tournament, play around, see what works for you in that setting. It must take a lot of mental energy to focus on the game and on commentary at the same time, and it might even add a little extra pressure if you also have to think about "how do I make a good content out of this" all the time. I think, most of us are here for the good vibes, so if you are happy, the viewers are happy too.

Dude, I'm only saying this because I love you and what you do. If you want to do well in tournaments, it won't just be enough to cheese all day every day. You'll need to improve on every aspect of your play. Boring macro play, split second decisions, knowing counters to builds, starsense, strategies for Bo5s and Bo7s. You need to work on your weaknesses as well as your strengths. This isn't just negativity. Both Maru and Flash started out as players famous for being cheesy, then developed into incredible defensive, intelligent, well-rounded players. I'm confident that you can do the same.

@@eclipseeffigy Better than you too, and yet he mentioned in a recent video that he's going to lean harder into his own style. I want him to win another IEM, but it's not likely that he will if he keeps going full cheese. The last two tournament results show that. Flash had decent success playing random in BW ASL, and there's some strategy in forcing your opponent to play defensive by always going cheese in one of your races, but that was after more than a decade of utter mastery of Terran. If Thermy just wants to keep making entertaining content, I'm all for it as well.

You make the same mistake as Beastyqt make. Like playing as random is always worst then playing any race because if you win A match then you have 64% chance to not to use the same tactic from the win. Also in one match is the map race win % is low in relevance, but over time in a tournament you get have 99% chance to draw all maps in loosing race ratio, so you have worst chance to win a tournament in compere to any one race player. Much better chance is to use all race in a play - not "the race" but "the map". Like you have a pool of maps that is in use in the tournament, you choose a most winnable /race / build order/ on every map (by your own standard or game play) then you have chance of % win rate and build win win for every map on your side. You play constantly in rate on your side not by random. For example if u have map that have 66%-ZvP-34% and your opponent is P you get the Z but if some proT use some tactic in TvP that have 100% win on this map then you can pick the T and use the proT tactic whoever is better by your playstyle - u need to maximize your wining rate on every map when you pick always the better race or tactic that have most chance to win on that specific map. This is winning doctrine not winning strategy.

Most tournaments don't allow you to choose your race after you start btw, typically random, T, P, Z all have to be chosen and stuck with at the minimum for the whole set of games. So if you're against a player in a Bo3 you'd have that one race for all maps.

That's not playing random tho lol. Ghost only challenge would be stronger if marines were allowed but that's the point of the challenge.
