Wayne Shorter belongs in the Mount Olympus of jazz! First time I heard him was when Miles' ESP was originally released. I hadn't been into jazz very long at that point but I recognized immediately that he was on an elevated plane of musicianship and artistry. My engagement with his music grew from that first listen to where I've been transported by his originality for all the years since. Like Monk, he's a one-of-a-kind improvisor and one of the greatest composers in the history of the music. Wonderful to see him again.

Oh Wow! Would have listened for hours if it was longer. Wayne Shorter - Get on one knee when you say his name… Listened to his music, seen him live, studied and played some of his pieces on sax. Words can’t describe how inspirational and high he is regarded. Jazz Royalty 🙏🏾

Oh my goodness -- Wayne Shorter! I have loved you and your artistry since the beginning! The Messengers! Weather Report! And your solo career! It has been wonderful listening to your music all these years and I will always treasure the two times I saw you perform live in both New York and Philly.

WS is arguably the most important and innovative Jazz composer of the past 60 years. Not only that but he's also a great and original improviser.

Another of the true legends of jazz still with us. Wayne's contributions both credited and uncredited helped author the Golden Age of Jazz, as well as the indelible legacy of Blue Note Records. Here's to continued good health, and mental acuity for great memories to share, of an era long since gone by. Blessings and honor my brother. You have earned them all!

@drum clown Just Listen to Anything on Blue Note from the Mid Fifties on in to The Sixties. Read the Liner Notes to see who's playing with who and what you like - Then Riverside Records; Prestige; Pacific Jazz - and Before long you'll have a couple of thousand records Lol....Seriously though, "Cantaloupe Island"; "Moanin"; and "Birth of the Cool" are pretty Accessible records....

Saw Art play in the village nyc.. Great interview.. I played in Japan as well and folks were very receptive to jazz..but I believe Gene Krupa was one of the first American jazz musicians to visit Japan post ww2 .which is in itself incredible bc Japan was closed off to foreigners for many years
