Good call. What is needed is a surface wire that has individual "pins" that are part of the wire and push thru the sisal into the chipboard beneath. No compacting, fewer bounce outs, no staples and a thinner wire. The only issue here is the wire will bend, and being thinner, may stay bent. Not sure what the wire is made from, but a higher tensile steel would work and shouldn't add to much to the cost.

Agreed. I played a competition this week using a Target world champions board with round wire and staples. There were at least 6 bounceouts and it was the same the week prior. A bounceout from a wire or rejection from the sisal on a blade board is so infrequent by comparison that I just don't think there is an issue

@@sag2974 I think it is more the roundness of the wires causing bounce outs than the staples. Maybe also the metal used because damn my wires are peppered with point marks. Looks like someone's been firing a mini machine gun at my board!

This was actually very interesting to me. The sisal being compact outside of the bull is not really a problem. So maybe boards can be made with a bull insert. It’s made with a hole there. Then they squeeze in a separate bull bit. That seems my easiest solution.

I personaly dont see a problem with firm sisal on the bull, but i guess an easy way to remedy it would be for the manufacturers to thin the sisal at the bull area before installing the spider. Or they could make a low density bull sized biscuit that goes in the bull area.

Could the manufacturers build the boards so there is less sisal density towards the middle of the board so when the spider wire is added, we get similar compaction all across the board?

Actually, I would love that Target 1/2 board. Not kidding. Both halves would be a perfect wall addition to my Darts Room set-up. You need to sign them though and throw in a Shirt Too. You are my favorite player because of your attitude and personality, you are one of a kind, quite opposite of most others.

Good review and hopefully a good push for the manufacturers to innovate a new concept. Is your next review on aggressive points and the actual need for them? They may assist the retention in the board.. but at what cost?? And is it not unfair, for the other players, that the board gets chewed up? 🙈🙈

i have more bounce outs with staple boards than spider wire. also I cant possibly see how the wire is compressing it at all. It also is nice to not have the darts going under wires anymore

The biscuits are rock hard near the bull, but the Blade 4, which was also embedded deep in the sisal, never had this issue. My old Blade 4 is 7 years old and still is in perfectly usable shape. The Blade 5 I have has none of the issues I've had with the Unicorn HD, HD2 and Target boards I've used over the last few years. My Unicorn HD lasted 3 months before it was unusable, the HD2 Pro lasted nearly a year before it was done and the Target board was rubbish from day 1. Why do I have issues with those 3 boards, but not the same with the Blade boards, which also have an embedded spider?

I'll check those individual reviews too, but what i miss is any kind of measurements and statistics. It kinda is pointless without those in my opinion. But at least you make a point and give a suggestion. Now i doubt that any kind of staples will ever be added to a high end dartboard, but still u at least had a go at thinking about it. I don't think we have "major" issues with modern boards. The compactness of the sisal round the bull is really only present for a short time when the board is brand new. And the Blade5 Dual Core actually has a very soft outer layer of sisal. That looks to me as the best solution, but to be honest i didn't find it to be that much durable or better, not really better than a standard Blade5 by a significant margin, but quite more expensive. I think the best dartboard ever is the Winmau Blade4, we have one in our clubhouse-getaway place. It's a bit worn, but still going strong after 3years. Incredible, blade5 and any of these might have thinner wires but are engineered not to last that long i think too.

Cheers Wayne. Would you pretty please do a video on how to stand when throwing your darts. Me and my pal have been argueing and I'm pretty sure neither of us are right. When I throw I'm leaning forward and alot of the time my backfoot is coming up off the ground. Should I have my entire base of both feet grounded? Should both feet be facing sideways? Thanks and if you can't respond cheers for your content anyway I'm enjoying it.

It’s preference. Price’s back foot comes up and he’s awesome. Anderson faces forward and he’s awesome. RVB stands solid side footed, he’s awesome. It’s important to find a way you would happily stand for hours or a match

I sway a little, but I have an inner ear problem so my balance is fucked. I now need to use a much flatter side-on stance to stabilise myself. I started throwing into the five a lot at first but have now adapted to only hit the five mostly hahaha.

Take your time, plant your front foot and move the back foot to a place of comfort and stability. Keep your head still. Push the dart rather than throw it. Even the champs sometimes lift the back foot.

WayneMardle: I think you are wrong about the wire spider affecting the compaction of the sisal. Applying the spider is the last step of finishing a board so it can't possibly affect the way the sisal donuts are compressed. The best solution is to find a synthetic material that would be of uniform density across the entire face of the board, completely self-healing from dart punctures, and have a usable lifespan that would make it affordable.

  • @gabedestellano

You should pull all the razor wire out of a board and test your theory. See if the sisal cakes loosen up once all the wire is gone.
