    Waymo reps absolutely do sign off and approve various actions when the car asks them "Hey I'm here and want to do X but I'm unsure. Do I proceed or do something else". Each rep watches over a dozen or two cars. They would never admit to this because it would be a PR nightmare. "Waymo reps control their FSD vans from home, still cant get it right"

    I'm waiting on the discussion on autonomous fleets and car-to-car communication. In the future we need to route cars like packets. No need to stop at lights. No accidents, short of equipment failure.

    Exactly what I was thinking the whole time. The beta is absolutely amazing and it’s already been upgraded so much in just a few weeks. Once the beta goes live and all that data is poring in the system is going to learn and crazy speeds an improve on what is already mind blowing. There Waymo vs Tesla convo made it seem like they were even in the same league when Tesla is blowing waymo out of the water it’s not even close

    @@tamanousJP lmao, it’s called BETA for a reason. The point is you cannot YET pay not attention you have to be able to take over if need be. From where the beta was 45 days ago they have already updated it 7 times. It’s looking better and better in a short period of time.now once the entire Tesla fleet gets the Beta download the insane amount of data Tesla will be reviving will have the system learning insanely fast. It would be smart not to doubt Elon, he only gives fucking gives NASA astronauts rides to space this guys balls and brain are massive of the man says we are close to FSD ya might want to believe him

    I think he's super right about Level 4 being the goal for the time being. And this is why I have a good deal of faith in FSD, because what better way to make a useful version of Waymo then to have a literal million cars all driving around mapping the world. Problem with HD map is our city is not stay the same. There'll be change to the road sign, lanes, etc.. or even a road structure itself. It's not possible to have keep everything update all the time with HD map. The more area HD map expanding to, more difficult to keep update.

    @@amoneoudini1044 They have solutions to update the map automatically with new Lidar data. It's more a safety thing, Waymo is an operating level 4 autonomy system, at this point it's better to restrict it to well-tested areas. It's not like Tesla which is still miles away from level 4 and can just demand drivers to put hands on the steering wheel as a hack.

    It is clear by now that Waymo has succeeded in solving the FSD problem. In 6 years most likely most self driving cars will have Waymo OS.

    This would require cars to have all the sensors and equipment needed to implement waymo's approach. Also it depends on how many areas Waymo can cover given they are offering autonomous driving is certain areas that are very well mapped and understood.

    @@frankwiersma7980 I think on the sensors front, the barrier is cost.I would venture a guess that it would probably cost at least 40k to implement the sensors and computing hardware to accommodate waymo's Driverless technology. On the mapping front it's scalability. How long would it take waymo to map out all the cities in America, including all lane markings, traffic signs, etc. To create HD maps takes lots of time. Then factor in the maintenance of these maps, monitoring for changing road conditions like road closures and road construction/repairs, new roads. Now imagine having to keep this system up to date. This is why Tesla had get on a generalized fsd solution where the car reacts to what it sees based on all the Nn training compiled over time. It will be fascinating to see if Tesla can pull it off but I would argue they are targeting a much harder goal than waymo which would be superior if they can achieve it. Having said that you are right technically waymo is first with their pilot in Arizona.

  • @frankwiersma7980

    @@Brizandeer I think sensors and mapping are just issued solved by further optimization. But first you have to have a product that works perfectly. Removing sensors from the Tesla FSD system while the system itself does not work very well makes it even hard to get things right This because you do not know if errors are made by false input data or by problems with the software itself. Same with mapping. I think it will be relatively easy to start moving sensors and to map the environment automatically once you have good software. But Tesla is doing this while their software is level 2.5 at most.

  • @Brizandeer

    @Brizandeer

    @@frankwiersma7980 I would respectfully disagree :) you need a product that is superior to humans. I guarantee you that waymo and Tesla will never be able to create the perfect product because there is always a circumstance that neither system has encountered before and s risk it cannot cope. This will mean self driving cars will continuously improve over time which is a very good thing for us passengers. But Waymo and Tesla are facing 2 different challenges, waymo faces scaling challenges whereas tesla is facing software development challenges. It will be interesting to see which of these will be overcome in time. My money is on Tesla 😉

    Waymo to function requires areas that have been pre mapped (so far limited to 50sq mi. area) That is a ridiculous to autonomy. Unlike Tesla’s approach for FSD that can function anywhere in the world. The recently released beta FSD software shows its actually working extremely well.
