Thanks for tagging along with me for Waxing an Oil Skin Coat | How to Make a Waxed Jacket & Waxed Canvas
With the rainy part of the year over, it's time to re-wax this old oil skin coat and get it ready for next year. I'll show you how I wax jackets and fabric, so you can use it for your own projects!

Yes I will use it
Waxing a piece of clothing creates such a striking change to it's look!
I had an old no liner tan safari jacket that I was going to throw out so I thought to experiment on with wax. I used pure bees wax and brushed it on like you. Used a hair dryer to melt it in because i couldn't find my heat gun. I shouldn't have been but was genuinely shocked at how stiff it was, and blotchy. I am still working on getting as uniform an appearance as I can. Not sure I will keep it even after all the work.
Thank you for this. I'm an odd size, and found an old but well-kept second hand oilskin that fits me at a flea market that I need to refinish. Very helpful of you, so, thank you very much.
Looks great. A great way to make it yours.
Wonderful video, it was very useful; I used a small hair dryer to work with the wax and an old leather glove to keep my hand from burning. Great results! Thank you from Ontario, Canada
Very informative video! Thank you!
great vid! Also nice tip with the wood sculpting tool. Also good to hear it took 4 hours, I kept hearing it usually takes an hour and was wondering why mine took 5 hours to do
Excellent video, may I suggest using an old sponge instead of the brush, I used to use a brush but found a good sponge works the wax into the cloth a lot easier with a lot less waste. Great informative videoa.
Great video, how do you keep the color so crisp in a low light shop like that? What camera are you using? On a side note, there are waxes available that can be used on synthetic and blended fibers that will last for years ;)

I was shooting with a Panasonic g9 (amzn.to/3eXFpJe) for this video. It's a solid manual focus camera, but for my talking head stuff I've recently added an sony a6600 (amzn.to/3uzR8V4) because it has really solid auto focus. As for lighting I have a godox sl60 (amzn.to/3vUpJx0) with a softbox that I use to light me differently then the back ground.

Looks like the old subtitles, were unreadable? so it should be better, now. However, I'll go in later this week and properly edit it.
Thank you for the video. Please forgive me if I missed it but what time of rag did you use? Thank you very much!

I just used a shop rag like these, amzn.to/3ebBFno. I bought a big pack a few years ago and use them for all kinds of stuff.

This is an old video so I may not get a response. I have a question, my duster ha leather on the shoulders. Is it ok if i rub this same stuff on the leather to while I m doing the cotton? If you get this and can let me know i would be greatful. Dave

Depends on the type of leather and what you're goals are. If you looking for a conditioning oil over water proofing I'd use some conditioning oil. amzn.to/3PxpVOm or some neets foot oil amzn.to/3PWb7u6. But you can use wax on suede and veg tan leather it will darken the leather a lot and stiffen it as well. Sno-Seal amzn.to/3PZk5XB is also another option, I feel like it works just as well as wax, but leaves the leather more flexible.

i put way too much on i think and now its just greasy...what do i do

What do you mean greasy? If there’s too much wax left over you can heat it up again on the fabric and rub it in with a cloth. Doing that will also absorb any extra.
