I was wondering about this. I remember in elementary art class we would draw with crayon and then wash with watercolor. I was thinking about applying wax or vaseline to a watercolor's image and then doing a wash for background effect. I appreciate your examples. They save me my own trial and failures.

Hi Michele, yet again you come through with such an interesting and helpful video. I remember when I first joined your FB group trying wax resist to produce highlights in water. At that time I believe I wasn't applying the wax correctly, so didn't get the results I was trying for. However, not only do I want to try this again, but all of the techniques you have demonstrated in your video. I particularly liked the Dorlands wax used with the leaves. This is so interesting, and would definitely look great in the background of a painting... so fascinating. Thank you so much for your amazing tutorials, and continued support. Take care and best wishes always. Aud ❤️

Hi Kathy, Blick's carries wax resist crayons (that you can sharpen) by Susan Scheewe Wax Resist Sticks, under $5.00 US dollars for 4 . Always on backorder tho. I was wondering if Prisma colored pencil blender would work, all the blender is to my knowledge is a colorless pencil and those pencils are sooo waxy, I might give 'em a try. I love learning new things :-) Peace.

Yet another superb training video that shows so well your 20 years experience, which I have close to as well. If I had my way, having taken up WC , Oils (3 years a go) and now Mixed Media and the 'head shaking' disbelief of how bad so many wannabe Art tutors on here are, they would have to watch YOUR KZreads before going live to the public and have someone as good as you, to approve them before doing so. Recently due to finding I seem to have a talent for semi abstract landscape painting purchased a very good Mixed Media artist tutorial video whose style I really like and believe I may do well in. He uses a fair bit of WC and Oil Pastel that really gives some fantastic surfaces but unlike you, rushes the application of how to do so. So thank Michelle, so much for this video plus you reminded me of candle technique as well.

Ah, thank you! I have no idea what other teachers are doing on KZread, I rarely watch their videos, I kind of don't want to be influenced by anyone else, or worried I am doing youtube the wrong way, so I just do my thing and put it out there!

@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber I certainly see the wisdom in your thinking. I also have greatly benefited in you doing so as today making use of some of my Paul Rubens Oils Pastels and WC Yellow Ochre & Quin Gold paints for the resist technique, created a really impressive professional looking beach which unlike me, I was well chuffed with.

Great idea. Yes you could overlap the leaves but it might become a little confusing, as they don't always leave the strongest shapes. But if you are feeling like experimenting, why not!

Oh Michele, these were some really fab techniques! Not a big fan of masking fluid, I just loved the candle wax for the ocean surf! I loved others, too, but the wax on the leaves was just brilliant and so subtle, especially appreciated as I’m a mixed media watercolour artist. I’m going to have to watch this again, as I just know I’ve forgotten some others that would be so useful. Thanks so much for sharing your creative thinking!

Hi Michele, fantastic tutorial. The Dorland's wax got me thinking of a "frosty window" with snowflake designs. The possibilities are endless with all these techniques. I haven't started to paint yet (only use colored pencils so far) I want to learn from artist's like you before I invest in supplies, well okay I do have some supplies lol, I want to get the best quality I can afford so I don't get discouraged; but I do have some white candles hanging to try, this really is a motivating video.. I'm excited to just jump in and start. Thank you for teaching us. Peace. p.s. sparking water and sparkling snow are two of most favorite things in nature to be mesmerized by :-)
