You know, that’s exactly how I felt when I played this game. Something about it just clicked for me; I only ever game over’d on the final boss and I was perfectly in the zone for the entirety of the game leading up to it. Heccin baller game, I suggest you play it.

well its stated multiple times by the guardians and the voice that they cant actually kill rider all they can do is lock him up.

I felt so bad killing her. It just felt like such an unfair fight for her. I even tried to die in the last phase only to realise that her attacks literally do no damage. And that achievment just drew it in more: "Amateur. Pushover." :( After finishing the game, I tried her on Furier difficulty. I never felt so happy getting destroyed by a boss three times in a row. She did it. She finally did it.

Hell, Even The Voice had to admit it was a bitter pill to take. He knew The Beat had to be taken out for him and The Rider to get free... ...But he didn't have to _like_ it.

Felt bad for the kid. Here she is, literally the last line of defense and possibly on her first big assignment as a hero, and it's against this galaxy's most dangerous threat. The song itself is very indicative of the Beat as a character. It's this upbeat, bouncy track that evokes an easy-going attitude, and a childlike charisma, and yet there's a sense of underlying danger. It almost can stand in for the opening level for a Mega Man game, yet the fight is between base MM1 Mega Man and X5 Zero with every upgrade. The guardians never expected the Rider to get this far, they were sure of it. Poor kid.

If Rider got past every other guardian, then she would have had no chance against him even if she were prepared. Physical defense would fail. Instead, I think they chose her as a mental defense, a last-ditch effort to convince Rider to spare their world from the invasion. Ultimately, Rider kills her, but the player's decision when they arrive at the mothership can be seen as the determination of whether The Beat was successful.

@@Shadowtail Considering only the Line seemed to know there was more to the story (and even then, all he noticed was the outline of the ship), it's very likely she was there to just guilt the Rider to staying in the prison, as opposed to leaving and further doing whatever he was doing to the planet. Granted, this last line of defense seemed to still be effective, as even in winning and going to risk activating a completely unknown threat, the humans still managed to have an effect on it. I'd say it was all of the Guardians' actions that allowed the Beat to do this though. Keep in mind that the same Brain areas allocated for Empathy are used for predicting the opponent's movements, as that requires a use of Empathy in the first place. Thus, assuming the Rider has a similar processing structure, the Beat would have (without knowing) harnessed its now rather strong Empathy pathways just by being there. Innocence is one of the strongest provokes of Empathy, though it is also among the hardest to control because of its very nature.

I always considered the guardians to either try and defeat u or shape your character. All of those encounters led to the true ending of Rider becoming a real boy.

This fight was so fucking sad. She almost seemed like she wanted to have a peaceful resolution, but she was also really scared, running away from you the entire time. Then when you get close to killing her, she begs for her life, and as she dies she wants to hold your hand. Such a brilliant, standout moment to me. It hit me harder than the fight with The Song, which I think was supposed to have a more emotional impact.

His name isn't Furi, he's The Stranger, or Rider. Just another enemy.

This is the theme of a hero desperately trying to overcome a villain. The struggle, and the hope. It's her theme, not ours.

Before this level when the Voice says "There's something in there that is meant to stop you. For good". He wasn't talking about the giant cannon - he was talking about compassion.

This fucking guardian... A packet of feels and awesome.

It always makes me feel better to think that in some people's games at least, the beat wasn't just a worthless sacrifice: Killing her helped the rider realise what he was doing, and ultimately this boss fight is what lead to the rider turning against the mothership and saving the free world. So in a twisted way, the beat actually did save the planet.

Yeah, I honestly started questioning things after the third fight, like "There is more going on here," The Line felt encouraging even as he was fighting you. Don't think I need to go into detail about The Song and The Hand. We can safely skip The Burst as I put her around the same area as Chain and Strap. The Edge was a lot of fun and in another time Rider and he probably would have gotten along. Then...we get here. It was at this point I knew that I was on the wrong side and that last "round" snapped me in half. Had to put my controller down for a bit and walk around the house. So when it came time for the Reckoning my only gripe was I could visually flip the bird to The Star.

Loved how the Voice is going through the usual spiel to pump you up, calling her crap and telling you to not listen to her nonsense, but then kinda slows down and questions why she's even here. Even he questions what's about to go down. And once it's all done, he just walks there and goes all "well that's that, there's the door, we're free!"

The reason The Architect/Voice was so angry at her is because he knew the only way for the Stranger to escape the prison was to kill the Beat, he hated that fact since he didn't want her to die. She was just a kid.

This fight isn't meant to be a fight, it's meant to be a home-run stretch for the player. The fight is easy. Chase the girl, shoot her a few times (she barely has any HP anyway). She has 3 phases, all of which have (relatively) easy to dodge attacks (though they do high damage for the first two.). And then she starts speaking. Fearfully telling you she is the last line, fearfully yelling that you *Are* a Monster. And at the end of it, theres one melee section. No bullet hell, no immortality last stand. Just a pathetically easy melee fight, something everyone should have mastered after the Edge. And then the achievement. "Amateur. Pushover" hits you. She wasn't a hero. She wasn't a guardian. She didn't even have a plan like the Burst. She was just a brave little girl, desperately hoping to save the world you would certainly destroy. Because, after all you've done, you are The End. Then you're free. And you have to ask yourself... was she right?

Album Interpretations well judging by the land decaying after you finally kill her and most of the bosses like the hand and the song having a point about you being a monster, as well as the fact that the edge probably knew he was going to be challenged by the rider hence why he trained so much because it was his life's goal. Coming from the edge to the beat was a breath of fresh air, instead of legit having to spend 2 days on a boss I only spent like 3 or so tries because I ain't good at platformer games

Probably the architect is the one that choose the achievement's name.

I always thought of The Beat as a sort of “canary in a coal-mine” for the prison.She is the last resort. She can’t fight but she is the fastest guardian. Her job is to pull the failsafe. To sound the alarm for earth.

The raging ambient scream in this song isn't the usual rebelling against an ompressive power of other songs, but instead a predator like scream. You have the power here. And you're trying to kill a nearly defenseless child. You're the monster here.

I love how this feels like good music for a snow level (to me, at least). It matches both the feeling of this "fight" and matches the surroundings. Really clever on the part of Waveshaper and The Game Bakers.

You can actually feel in this music that you're not fighting a Guardian, you're just a killing machine and The Beat is just a girl who wanted to save her planet...

I think the point of this boss was so that she is not the hardest boss based on how strong she is, but she's the hardest boss because makes Rider (also the player) think about his actions, which leads up to the ending.

The Edge trained so hard in the hopes he could protect her. Remember this.

Je me demandais pourquoi Augustin avait choisi cette chanson pour illustrer la scène finale Et après avoir lu le contexte de cette chanson dans son jeu, tout prend sens Les Tigers, qui sont allés si loin avec si peu, à une seule game d'entrer dans la légende, donnent tout dans ce dernier set face à un ennemi qu'ils ne peuvent vaincre, comme cette jeune fille semble le faire dans ce combat. Tout donner dans un match perdu d'avance, tout ce qu'ils peuvent encore faire.

I like this little scenario you made. Not because it is well written, it is well written, but I like how the Voice knows the Stranger will get out. He is putting her blood on their hands because he knows what he has gotten himself roped into by the Song, and he knows what he will one day need to do even if he doesn't realise it himself

What I love about music, is how context makes this a sad song, but it doesn't intrinsically shine through it. There's a bit of desperation, yes, but it's not obvious unless you saw what happened as the song played.

This comment section shows more emotion than all the youtubers that have reached this point combined. I at least expected someone to be surprised at the end.

Fun fact-Whenever you go into a charged state, your next attack is boosted but it turns off if you get hit. HOWEVER the beat in her final phase can't turn off your boost because she actually does 0 damage. So yeah, defenseless plus helpless.

Listening to this music on its own: Oh man this is so upbeat and cheerful! Listening to this music when playing this game: Oh gee wiz this is kinda depressing

This song is perfectly dire, bleak, and hopeless but also peppy, charming, and upbeat. Hauntingly dramatic. I'm clueless as to what wizardry Wave used to concoct that "warning siren" that's only used about 8 times but hits like a damn truck 👌

I actually shocked in the last part of the fight. Was expecting a super tough boss and when I reached the last melee phase I realized how bad she was trying to stop me. Everybody was counting on her. Hopes and dreams of all members of the planet, relying on a child with an armor suit and a hockey stick. She never stood a chance, but gave her best in one attempt to stop the monster I had become. The Beat has no really physical force, only a lot of resources she wasn't even ready to use properly. "Hold my hand" How many meanings can this sentence have? She was despered, realized that never stood a chance. That is why all the other guardians had already failed. The prisoner is strong. When feeling the katana inside her, being bathed with blood, she realizes violence is the only way you know, so in a last breath tries to extract a piece of humanity, if you still have. But you don't.

Or do you...? She showed that even being enemies she forgave him in a way by saying "Hold my hand". She was the last line of defense not only because she was the weakest, but also because her death could potentially change The Stranger's "feelings" / thoughts. Indeed all humanity was counting on her, perhaps not to defeat The Stranger but instead to change his mind (right before he comes free) and save their planet from an invasion - her death for the chance of her planet being spared, truly a big sacrifice. If The Beat was the first boss or even at the midle and at the end only hardcore determined guys would fight you right before the end, you probably wouldn't give a second thought to saving their planet. Your mind would race and think about how they just all tried to end you and put you back in chains.

Well... The Hand was the one who locked you in first place, so through the entire fight with him I felt no remorse. But with The Beat? Omg I even felt very sorry at the end, but the first time I got there I ended up with 1 health, so I was scared that she could've killed me... Apart of that, The Song was actually another boss that I didn't want to kill in the first place

Almost 2020 and still listening to this. So glad I played Furi

reading this comment section I realized that nobody has adressed the fact that if rider hadn't beaten all of the jailers the bunny guy would have been trapped in that prison forever and wouldn't have gotten to see his daughter again

5months late, but, the bunny guy signed up for this knowing what he was in for. He constructed the prison. He just couldn't keep it together and stay vigilant like the others, which is why he got locked up too. No one was holding his daughter at gunpoint from what I could tell, he just wanted to get out and see her. If anything, releasing the Stranger put his daughter into actual danger, and everyone else in his world. It's not really a noble goal by any means, it's actually extremely selfish.

So many good tracks in this game. This, The Line, The Song, The Burst are my favorites.

Final phase on furier for the first time Pause to learn of any new combo strings *Gets hit by a tap that does literally no damage* Well damn, that's just sad.

1:32 That pleasant sound in the background kicks in just makes everything feel good.

The emotional damage this game dishes out is more than I've taking in physical damage.

The thing I like the most about this fight is how the Stranger is pretty much just chasing the Beat down. All the previous bosses stood their ground and at least up to a point certainly held the high ground. Seeing things from the Beat's perspective is probably how it feels to be a victim in a slasher movie. Such a fucking sad fight. The Game Bakers are incredible

Despite the sad tone of this boss fight and the utmost respect to the game developers, this song is a fucking bop and is played in my car along with a few other furi OST songs because this shit bangs

I really love this song. It feels like a cheerful, upbeat theme turned sad and hopeless. Like there could be a happier version of it where The Beat stops Rider and is the hero she hoped to be, but instead, we have this theme, because she's doomed to fail.

rider / the end / the stranger / shooty mc slicy slice / katana pistol guy / whatever: it was after the fight that i realised: *MY A MONSTER HAD E S C A P E D ! that kind girl was trying to tell me he was running away!*

this boss was probably my favourite in the whole game and i felt so bad after killing her i literally stood there giving the boss a moment of silence. also the achievement didn't help at all.

I have a dream that the same team will some day make a new game that can meet the same amound of quality this game has!

To be honest one of the best soundtracks I heard since a long while. Creative, funky, and extremely hardcore, especially my most favorised part from carpenters brut.

Best track in the game by far and that's not something I say lightly.

Brynautic i like all the waveshaper songs in the OST, the Danger ones i find a bit 2 agressive, but still okay.

Furi most of the time got the most epic Boss fights in terms of expressing the emotions but this fight was something else it was literally like fighting a innocent girl and even killing her at the end to get freedom

I could stay in this fight just to loop the song forever

since she has to die so you can escape they should let you be able to choose if you want to quickly kill her (in cold blood) or be compassionate and hold her hand till she bleeds out or falls unconcious

Iron M Compassionate? As she is slowly losing all feeling in her body, and slowly feeling colder and colder as she loses vision and the rest of her senses? No. A quick death is compassionate, not letting her die slowly.

Perfectly said, it's a banger but it also sounds sad at the same time.

Tougher than I expected in furier

I feel she knew what she was getting into by fighting the stranger. besides they kept mentioning that she was a kid. the fight shows that she young and not as strong. dam the game is good. I couldn't put it down I kept restarting when I died.

The Burst and The Edge had pushed me to my limits. The others were asleep, and the music was low. "Final Boss". Silent, frustrated and determined, the calming snow didnt work too well, and I began to channel the Rider. Escape. Freedom. The fight ends as fast as it begins. She makes good hits, but I have learned resolve. When her end comes to, my eyes only see "counter, parry, kill". I barely care for her last words...... I reach the surface. Death brings inner collapse, and wandering overcomes. I see not the beach, but just a tower. The blackened huts fall in the dust. Unknown suit. Mystery...shouldn't it be over? I ascend beyond the heavens, and towards the Maw. I see...me. So many that the realization occurs. She greets me, and presents my [first perceived] choice.................. And I choose redemption.

Such a cool design and theme ... Yet in comparison to every other boss she was just ... A pushover.

Iron M the point is Rider doesn't realize why he was locked away. He only knows he wants to be free, without realizing what his freedom would cost the outside world. Everything around him withers and dies. Even if you choose to have him destroy the mothership, his very existence outside of the jail is 'the end' for the world he is on.
