I concur with Mr Skolnick on the sound. Many modellers give you a "produced" guitar sound. By that I mean a sound that you might hear on a record release. These PRS models sound to me like real amps heard from up close. While I don't have the hardware amps in question I've worked with countless ones over my 40 odd years playing, (some of them Very Odd) and the thing that struck me upon firing up these plugins was that they sounded like up close valve amps (OK tubes) warts and all. Scratchy tones, awkward breakup if the gain structure is set wrong. Gorgeous response when it's set right. When you get a new amp you usually have to wrestle with it for a bit to see if you can get all that you want from it. These PRS models feel the same to me. Real.

I've used the Archon clean sound for one song (with a very hot pickup). It sounded great in the mix. Still fiddling with the lead channel, haven't found a sound I like just yet but I've only used it for maybe two sessions.

Are these comparible with the Waves GTR models ''Scorch'' (High-gain amp), ''Supernatural'' (High-gain amp) and ''Scream'' (Overdrive) and are all of these (re)modeled after the same amplifier?

@@escalator9734If it's ESP/Ltd... It's all Asians. ESP is a Japanese company, the "low end" Ltd. models are usually built in Korea or Indonesia. That being said, guitars have been built in Asia for decades, it's not like they don't know how to make good product. The labour exploitation in some of those countries is troubling though....

@@MetalBeastShred Yes in case of esp it's japanese instead of minimum wage americans. My point was asia built guitar are indeed good. The machines are the same, the processes are the same, with higher end having extra steps and QC. And better grade materials like hardware and prettier wood. Labor exploitation well, it's the world we live in. we in first wolrd countries thrive on the modern slavery of the poor(er). But it's so far away, and so convenient we look away. Kinda like the thing with the tree falling in the forest that doesn't happen if you're not there.

It sounds ok to me, I like Waves plugins. But I would've liked to have heard the actual tone of the amps and not just see this cat playing as fast as he could for 5 mins. Do the amps sims actually have a tube amp growl and harmonics or is it just for shredding on. Have the demonstrators slow down so we can actually focus on the tone and not the shredder. Just my opinion. I will probably download the trial if there is one.

The Good Guy no I watched the whole thing. You can still shred clean. My point is this, “ let’s hear the quality of the amp sim and not receive the mindless noodling of some speedy player.” I am a guitar teacher and I teach my students the importance of more than just speed. Whether he is shredding clean or distorted we can’t hear the quality of the product they are supposed to be selling us. That makes me think it’s less than desirable.

Alex is a professional player who is “test driving” this software and giving an opinion from his perspective. This is not exactly a demo where they show features and explore a whole slew of tone options. As you say, perhaps you should download a trial version and see how it works for your own needs.

The V9 sounds horrible. Actually, they all sound pretty horrible. I tried the demo and I think I'll stick with Scuffham S-Gear for now. The Wayfarer in S-Gear is the closest thing I've found to my Mark IV. I'd still rather record with the Boogie, but for everyday playing without blasting the neighbors, S-Gear is still the best amp sim I've tried.
