One important point that I think isn't clear in the video: the clue giver doesn't choose the location of the dial point zone, it is random. They spin it with the cover shut and then look at it to see where they're trying to get folks to guess.

That explains a lot. Thx

@@davidsimpson9071 Basically you have a look at the dial zone before/while you check the words to put out. Then you give the hint that will help your team most to hopefully adjust the red pointer to where you saw it beforehand. In the basic rules you may not even use a full sentence or such but only one word.
I must say, Tom is doing a great job. It's always hard to welcome a new face into a youtube channel that you love, but Tom is pulling it off. Go Tom!

Does anyone else reeeeaaaalllly love how the green handle will slowly slide itself over to the side and gently land in place? Cause i really love that. I went ooooo the first time I saw, paused the video, rewind and watched it again. Production value!!
Had an amazing round where my mum had the card: a sandwich | not a sandwich and the clue she gave was 'lasagne'. the resulting conversations made us all laugh so much! (the target was mostly towards the 'a sandwich' side jsyk)
“It pulls up into town with a handbreak turn!” 😂 amazing. Also Matt awkwardly/apologetically setting up a game for a new and moderately unenthusiastic group! Absolutely relatable!
This will be a hit during the months and years of social isolation ahead of us. Just me and the cats, and Wavelength.

This game is freaking insane I have brought it with me everywhere, played with everybody and everyone loved it, including: - my grandma - coworkers - random drunks at the pub - Uncles - Roommates And I can verify that at least a majority of people listed here actively hate me and/or fun. Yet they all loved playing this game. Awesome pick for anyones the shelf! Just... forget about the points. No one cares about those.
The lore of the SUSD universe gets even deeper. Episode 153: Tom becomes immortal. Time to update the wiki

So... I've played Wavelength (cooperatively) at two, and it was fun. I just can't recommend playing it solo. It reminded me of how little i know myself.
I keep seeing these wonderful party games that I can''t help but think "Oh that would have been great to play in class with my students (ESL)" and then I remember I don't teach anymore.
I bought this game thanks to you and I must say ; thank you! The game arrived today and I tried it with my wife, it was an absolute hit, we played it for over two hours , just taking turns and laughing a lot after getting it right Plus the quality of the components is great! This game is amazing for everyone , parties , family and even between just 2 people taking turns.
You had me at "I got it from a guy called Wolfgang...like a gang of wolves...but a man"
the ending of this video is the best piece of art i've ever experienced in my life.

There is no need to be afraid. There is only a need to be cautious.
As per the designers recommendation: Give the “shield piece” a quick upward flick for a crisp reveal. Try it, it’s nice.
My word your choice of lighting and depth of field is lovely
The choice sound/music of the last few reviews has been wonderful. :D
The only and best board game review I’ve ever seen. Engaging, hilarious, and thorough. Kudos!
Fantastic review Matt and Tom!!! I admire your perspective on "the point" of games and play in this video!
By some chance, we're playing Wavelength this evening live on KZread with viewers doing the guessing. Come join in!
You are amazing! Keeping me entertained for two years now! The only show that i save for later like chocolate!
That last bit with the dial was very mighty boosh!
Wavelength was my SHUX19 highlight! Joining a game in progress with 12 or so people and immediately getting on with everyone was incredible. The conversations were great: insightful and hilarious! Where is "milk chocolate" on a light/dark scale? Is it a chocolate scale, or a colour scale? Is white chocolate even chocolate?! Immediate pre-order from me as soon as I played it. And there's nothing like the feeling of your team being EXACTLY on your wavelength, hitting the spectrum dead in the middle.
These videos are what's getting me through the quarantine, thanks, guys!!
The zoom in on Matt at 10:17 slayed me.
This game reminds me a lot of a (I think) not that well known game called Therapy, where there's a bit of Trivial Pursuit mixed in there but with a lot of questions going based off "How well do you know the person(s) you're playing with?" ... which is intriguing.
13:52 Reminds me of a game my self-help book loving grandmother used to make us play as children: The Ungame. We became keenly interested in Monopoly after that, also physically torturing each other. Connecting with people sounds good on paper, but nothing can compare to connecting with someone by staring them in the eye and watching them cry inside as your master plan becomes strategic reality.
Kickstarted this game after hearing it on the podcast. It became an instant hit among my friends, it provides such great stand up moments haha. Thanks for the video!
I love the disclosure and truthfulness that is posed befor the review.
Thanks for being upfront with your relationship and your approach.
Got a great big MIGHTY BOOSH vibe at the end there!!! I miss the moon....
Saw this in the dev section of PAX Unplugged a couple of years ago. So glad it's doing so well!!
An important rules quibble (that makes the game way more interesting!): if the psychic cannot see the entire band of the '4' on the score range, they have to spin the white dial again. As such, clicking all the way to the left or the right is rarely if ever the right call (unless you just are happy with the "off target" points)
@chrisprice8112

Wow, thanks for pointing this out. I (and probably a fair few other people) finished the video thinking "but hang on, isn't it trivially optimal to just pick something you obviously love or hate, thus oblivating the key appeal of the game if anyone is even remotely trying to win?" and am very glad the hear the devs thought of that and prevented it. I may actually get the game now!

Matt Blair would you consider Arkham Horror LCG or Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective to be video games??
@Occupant360
4 жыл бұрын
@@mzzzchael Sherlock Holmes I don't consider a solo game. Discussing the case with another person is were the fun comes from. If I were to play it solo it would greatly benefit by being on a computer instead. The Arkham Horror LCG, like most games in the Arkham series, is an example of a game that isn't fun in any medium.
@samuelganton2015

@@Occupant360 I understand this perspective ("why not just play a video game?") but I find it frustrating. I like the tactile/physical experience of board games, and while I enjoy playing them with other people, I have the urge to play more frequently than I'm able to get together with friends (especially during a pandemic, obviously). So solitaire games are great for filling that need! But I get that that isn't for everyone.

I'm sure SUSD would do a great job of this, but Liz Davidson over at The Dice Tower specialises in these and she's fantastic at it. That'd be where I'd go first to find great solo games.
The END! -- so good Thank you guys for making quarantine a great time!
Hi! I come from from a future where you made a video playing Dune. It was good! People clicked the like button multiple times!
That dolly with the teal concealment dial wiping was a really well executed shot. Bravo. Also, as someone who has worked in Journalism: Honesty never hurts, and transparency is the standard bearer of truth, so I applaud your frank, cards-on-the-table, metaphor-mixing forthrightness. (Also, indie video game inspired card idea: )
thumbs up for the end-of-review analogy turn around
This is such a great review. You guys are brilliant.
Got a bit Mighty Boosh there, did we?
Very impressed by the vertigo zoom at 12.40
I can always trust them to be good reviers and be honest. Thanks for helping me to find one to add to the collection.
As soon as I heard about this on Kickstarter, it was a no-brainer. I absolutely love it.
Thank you for the disclaimer at the start
I just bought this completely because of your end comments. I got Concept many years ago after playing it competitively with a group of mates. But once I got it home I played it with my family as a coop experience. And it became a favourite that has continued to this day. We haven't played it competitively ever since. I have a feeling wavelength is going to do exactly the same thing.
When board game youtubers are better at being transparent journalists than actual journalists 🤔🤔🤔
One small failing of the mechanical design of this game is shown multiple times in this video -- accidentally moving the spinner when attempting to reveal. Have to be real careful about it. That being said, still love the game.
okay, that last bit will haunt my nights forever. Thank you, SUSD.
I love the game and love teaching it. But the white portion of the dial *moves* when you try to close or open the cover. It can completely knock the scoring range out of wack. It even happens in the video when Tom tries to move it.
Played this with coworkers (albeit incorrectly), but it's a fantastic conversation starter!
The same thing of the group end up not caring about score and teams and all whenever we play Dixit. It's a testament to a good experience.
Hahaha yes! I take me some Matteo with a side of Tom-a-tio any day! Your reviews are like a little funny tv show episodes with some honest feedback about a board game. Keep it up. Thanks for making me laugh.
omg is that music from DAYS OF HEAVEN at about 14 minutes in?!?!
Keep the warm jam coming!
Wavelength is brilliant. I took it to add to the game pile to play in January between panto performances. Everyone loved it, even those that normally don't join in the games. we always ended up taking turns in the not quite long enough for another game but still got time to kill.
We’ve loved this game @treehousesheffield since it came out! We’ve even made up some of our own cards (which has to be an expansion coming soon right?) “Leg Day Mouth Feel” is the winner so far.
Big mighty-boosh-moon vibes on that end scene
Liking the Slime City shirt, Matt!
Very nice dolly zoom at 12:34. Didn't go unnoticed.
Oh hell yes to the Slime City t-shirt!
What is the music playing around 14:00? I feel like it's from a movie I've seen.
That ending was the scariest thing I have ever seen in my entire life.
It's funny, because Amazon kept putting it in my recommendations but when I read the description I didn't think it was a good fit for me and my game group. Now that I see this review I"m mad I didn't just pick up a copy. I think we could had fun and draw in those people in our social circle who normally, "don't like games."
I got this and all elements of my version seem less "smooth", when I spin the wheel I get a real crunchy sound and the teal door does not slide over automatically like that. I've tried adjusting the screws in the back, anyone else have this issue/any fixes?
love the ending! Creepy but great!
Moomin mug! I have that one. Well, I have tons of them, but still, MOOMIN MUG! MOOMIN! MUG! ... OK, I'm calm n...MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN!

SUSD got me into boardgames. But damn you to a warm jammy pit, Matt Lees! I've been sitting on wavelength waiting for it to drop a couple measly bucks. Now I'll be lucky if it doesn't sell out.
My dial doesn't have that nice slowly rotating action. :(
Tom has also become a classic. IT seems like he's also been here forever.
Are you guys going to come up with a list of suggestions for games best suited to "social distancing"?
I love dangerously contentious situations.
That’s when you bring out the backgammon!
Oof love that dolly zoom after the reveal that it's not that good a game ❤️
I got to try this a month or two ago. While I had some laughs, I honestly have no desire to play it again. Good for emergency entertainment in large gatherings i guess..
Can't believe I actually whispered a "Oh that's sexy....!" at a board game review. About a game I've played. Because of how nicely a dial moved.

Holy Dail Batman - Jeeze - Great review guys!
Oh god. I wasn't looking at the screen near the end. And when I turn around because of that sultrysultry voice, what do I see? A MONSTER!
I have to say that I kick started this game and since I got my copy every person who plays just wants to play more and buy their own copy because we had such a good time every time. The best is to play with a culturally diverse group ( my group is a mix of americans, europeans and asians and it creates the funniest situations).
I find telestrations to be one of those games that the scoring doesn't matter at all.
After Matt said Wavelength was there the whole time, I was legit expecting a Shining like close up on a picture where the game was already on the shelf dozens of years ago.
You can shove the dial further into the box and it will stand straight up.
When the scoring zone is fully to one side? Does an outer edge of scoring appear on the opposite end? Like in 11:11

Exortist Titan yeah, this happens sometimes, and the instructions don’t address it as far as I can tell. We made a house rule to just ignore the opposite’s side’s peeking point zone if it happens.
@scuba92186

Yea, I can't remember if it's in the rules or on BGG but they explain that it's just kind of not possible to hide it. That said, the center 4-point zone is where you give the clue based on, even if a bit peeks out elsewhere.
@natekushner8858

I’ve always played it where the person who gets that can get points on either the extreme left or extreme right, their choice. It’s like they get the blessing/curse of a low risk low reward round.
@miketaylor30

The rules do specify clearly that you ignore the peeking-out side and only play where the 4-point zone is visible. There's no need to house rule anything.
While we're all in quarantine can you do an episode on the best games you don't have to be together to play? Or maybe best app versions of board games?
That ending was very Boosh
Sadly my husband had a terrible time when we played this with a game group. He was on a team that had two players who didn't really listen to anyone else, even with 4 other people on the team. They suffered a crushing defeat despite my husband being dead right many times, especially when I had given the clue to my team, and they were going for the extra point. It ended up being more frustrating than fun. I hope he'll try again with different people. Rotating who makes the final decision on the extra point and who sets the dial would probably help. Some party games give you a little more agency (like Monikers or Fake Artist), but Wavelength is one that really depends on the group.
