one talented Korean lady singing a Brazilian song in English proves music has no barriers

Having spent too many (but no where near enough) hours studying and practicing jazz piano in the past -- and recently given up out of frustration -- I at least got the chance to see just how extremely difficult it is not just to put together an arrangement that is as smooth and classy as this, but also to play and sing it well. Sangah makes it all seem so effortless, doesn't she? Not only is this video outstanding, but if you check out her other bossa nova renditions of the Jobim/Astrud Gilberto big hits, they also match in quality. Elegant fills, no excessive Liberace-like flourishes, excellent chord voicings, gentle dynamics and tempo, well-chosen progressions, and a voice that certainly works with this music... gosh, this lady has it all. Not even a bass or drum to back it up. If you compare her to other KZread jazz pianists and listen closely, you will see that this is actually at a whole other level. The crazy thing is, I suspect that she will be taking gigs playing background music at some restaurant or hotel somewhere, and people will be babbling away at their tables a with no idea of the extraordinary talent that is pushing out that music. You have to really love what you are doing to get to this level and it shows here. It is great that she posts her stuff on KZread. So many people in America are in communities that simply don't have venues that have talent like this and will only experience it on some old movies, if even that. Even in the big cities, it is hard to find people at her level and I know that rarely will the managers of those venues have any understanding just how exceptional it is. And for young people who want to take up jazz, it is incredibly valuable to see what a real pro jazz pianist sounds like. Yes folks, here it is: the real deal.

​Sanga, as you see from all the many comments that people have posted on your videos, you have brought a lot of pleasure for a whole lot of us. And you can be assured that some of us at least know of the tremendous -- downright crazy -- hours of dedication needed to achieve the quality of even just one of the songs you play. But it is more than just simple practice: it is a dedication that not only has to overcome technical challenges, but a a whole lot of really, really subtle, interpretive, challenges of expression as well. And to do that, that dedication means nothing without an underlying talent to make it work, and it is nice to see both come together in what you have brought here.

Everything is PERFECT. The piano, the voice, your smile. Just fantastic. Top notch. You really captured the bossa nova spirit!

@@ckahrl I played saxophone in my dad’s big band as a high school kid in the 70’s, we did some Jobim, it’s beautiful music. Sangah is one of KZread’s greatest performers and most beautiful 🌹
