Watersnake Trolling Motor, Unboxing and Review

I bought this Watersnake brand trolling motor to mount on my bass boat conversion project. This is a Watersnake 54 lb thrust 12 volt bow mount trolling motor with a foot control. In this video I show you what's in the box and do a bit of a design / quality review.

Best of luck with the trolling motor! Hoping to earn enough this summer to be able to purchase and mount one on my boat. It would make wreck fishing soooo much easier.

I’ve had the 54lb thrust on my boat since last year. I don’t like the way you lower and raise it and sometimes gives me a fit. Don’t worry, the motor won’t just slide off without pressing the foot latch. You’ll be lucky sometimes to get the foot latch to let go. It is however easy to use and is very efficient. I got mine brand new for $200. Would I buy another? No

Just a thought.........what if you mounted it as a pusher over the transom, it appears that the foot control cable would be long enough to reach the front deck? Mounting it across the transom athwartship (maybe even hanging it outside the transom) would help it not block the back hatch. that position would tend to keep it out of the weeds / grasses also.

Having the motor on the bow is key for controlling the boat in a breeze and in tight spaces. But you're right the controller wire is longer than the boat.

That is not something I have explored since the only balsa I have ever bought has been from hobby stores. Sorry.

I see you bought another budget trolling motor. You'll learn to spend the extra money. You could have bought a good one for the money you spent on the Newport and water snake. Ask me how I know

I had 2 minn kota and 3 motor guide in the past 15 years....the newport lasted as long as any. The watersnake is not one I'll buy again.

I'm about to buy a trolling motor and I'm seriously considering the Newport. I didn't see a follow-up video. How did it hold up after a year? How did it compare to the Watersnake?

Funny you asked. Just started to have issues with it yesterday. It turns on and will not turn off. Speed control stopped working.

@@EngineeredAngler I may just have to go with the Newport anyway. The Minn Kota is cost prohibitive for my limited use...

Does that have a quick release so you can take it off to store it or is it a permanent mount?

It is very nice...plenty of power, controls work well and it is pretty quiet. Now it's just a matter of how long it lasts.

The stow-deploy mechanism on these is the big letdown. It fails and gets difficult to use.
