I tried your pliers suggestion to open the handle and it worked brilliantly! Some further information that might be useful for people: I inspected the plastic piston plunger, with the two small 'O' rings, under a binocular microscope. It looks like the bottom 'O' ring passes a small hole in the inlet side of the cylinder that it fits into. The constant passing back and forth past the hole mangles the 'O' ring and this might be a factor in it sticking. I also stretched its spring a bit and lubricated the plunger with silicone grease. Now it works beautifully. These devices definitely help keep your gums healthy, but the build quality is very flimsy. Unfortunately everything these days is manufactured to very low standards.

Called Waterpik. They suggested immersing the handle in one part vinegar and one part warm water for 1.5 hours. Worked like a charm.

The tip to use needle nose pliers inserted to open it was great. It popped right open for me. I was able to fix my stuck button with these steps. Thank you!

Thank you. Needle nose pliers trick worked like a charm. Spring was just jammed slightly. Put a piece of scotch tape around the handle after to make sure the two plastic parts stay together. Thanks for making this video.

Thank you. It was the rubber o rings that seemed to be sticking. I used some petroleum jelly to lube up the rings and it slides around okay now. You saved me $60!

Thank you! Using needle nose pliers was key. If you break the plastic, the rest doesn’t matter. I think the sticky part is the black washers rather than the spring. I coated them with plumbers silicone, put it back together and it works like new.

I've been using Waterpiks for years and they've become an integral part of my routine. I've had two with spring issues before finally my third one which had a spring issue very recently. I finally stopped buying new ones and instead looked up this video. This worked super super well. Took me about 5 minutes. Thank you so much!! I'm up $100!

Thank you! I used the long nose pliers as you suggested and it was easy!!! Had to apply lots of pressure but covered with a towel so went it burst apart all the pieces were in the towel.. If you ever decide to redo this. Show better the order of the parts when putting it back together. I had to replay and stop your video many times to try to figure out what you did...Also increase the volume.. It was very hard to hear.. But I liked yours the best of all I viewed an thanks for saving me a few dollars...

thank you very much! This idea is much better than what others show, prying open the wand by force. By the way, if you are a grease monkey (like me), you may have circlip pliers. It has jaws which open when you squeeze the handle. I used that to pry open the wand. I also used it to take off the round cover/ring (first step), just put the pliers' prongs between the shoulder of the wand and that ring. It came off right away. Again many thanks!

You've got a little bit of a Kaa voice 😂❤ thanks, I'll try vinegar/water tomorrow, and opening if that doesn't help. I'd warn not to leave the tank filled with water/vinegar solution overnight. It deformed my valve/gasket so it's now leaking, and there are no replacement parts where I live. They only offered me a complete new tank for 15 eur...lol..I'd rather continue manually pushing down the valve before filling up with water..

Update: vinegar didn't help. And since mine is still under guarantee, I'll just send it to get fixed :) the next time it happens and if not under guarantee anymore, I'll pry it open xD

Faster, Easier & Better - with an eye dropper put a dozen drops of olive oil down the top, bang it against your palm holding it upright then turn it over and knock the top against a hard surface. Make sure it is at 90 degrees to the surface. Mine popped lose. Work button several times to coat with oil. I popped off the top (with spring) that holds the tips but you probably don't need to do that.

Your hand blocks the view, of how you opened the WP body with the pliers. There's a round plastic tube there that does not split. I can't figure out how you used the pliers to split the body with the plastic tube there, in the way again, you're hand is blocking the view.

This video would have been very much better with the camera closer to the handle. Really don't need to see your bike
