Waterloo Campaign Turn One! Napoleon strikes the Prussians!

Фильм және анимация

Matt follows YOUR orders and marches the French Army against the Prussians to begin the Waterloo Campaign! This video is a bit of an experiment. We decided to show the majority of the game and give it the feel of watching a live event. Let us know what you think. We can change it up for Turn Two. Also - sorry for the low quality of the overhead camera...Mark's Game Room is working on a better solution for the next video. Make sure you vote in the Community tab for Napoleon's next big decision! Will our campaign end at the Battle of Waterloo or somewhere else?

    You have more infantry and artillery than you can move against the British, so detach a Corps to monitor the Prussians and move the rest against the British

    These are just the resolution rules from the board game. We wanted the campaign level maneuvering to be the focus, and the game would probably take waaaay longer if we played every battle out with a miniatures set. That said, each block in Napoleon represents around 3000 men per step, so if you really wanted to convert it to a minis game, you probably could.

    23:51 The "move to reserve" first and then immediately forward in the same turn feels odd. Might as well allow movement from the sides to center. I'm not familiar with this system but I would think moving to reserve would require the units stay there for a turn before moving forward.

  • @MichaelCorryFilms

    It's because they are cavalry and get two moves. In a lot of Columbia block games you can't just jump from one engaged position to another without first disengaging, moving to reserve and then to another position. Infantry for example wouldn't be able to do that because of less mobility. If any one forward position (sometimes 2) are not defended then the battle is lost. The French player took a major risk figuring throw everything into the center to buy time for his reinforcements to arrive.

    The overhead shots lack contrast making it hard to see units. Maybe use more side shots?

    Damn, now I want to buy this Napoleon board game. Is this the one Avalon Hill put out, only bigger? At first I couldn't figure out what rules you were using with the minis. But then I realized you were using the board game rules, just recreated with the minis. Well done.

    Actually i own this game and from that i know that the french Initial deployment is waaaaaaaay more dispersed, (as they historical were) not allowing for them to fall onto the prussians with that might. (Having not started to ponder about the Problem how to move 120000 men along a single road)

  • @Carl-MGR

    @Carl-MGR

    In the 4th Edition of the Game, the players can actually deploy much more freely than historically, with the French allowed to start in any French towns, so long as they have no more than 12 blocks in each. Definitely gave our Napoleon a little more punch to start!

    Why fight that first battle? Why not just withdraw all the Prussian forces as you did with the artillery? Seems daft to me to lose a whole Corp. Also it's Lee-age, not pronounced the same as the word liege, there's an accent on the first e.

    Not too sure about the game rules, movement ranges, and that artillery can limber move to then unlimber, and fire all in the same turn. With this there I no penalty if you stuff up your deployment, I know from my own experience that when you stuff up your deployment you are not only fighting against your opponent but also trying to correct your mistake. These rules allow you to move as you please, very odd.
