Hey Kevin I loved the additional explanation that you made in this video. Would love to see more of that "why" you make decisions in future videos. Also I know it would be a different video than you normally do but I would love to see a video that is just all about planning out a painting and what your process is there.

I've only recently started painting with acrylic and never tried oil but the realistic and soft way your paintings show up makes me really want to give it a shot, but it's scary because I'm sure I'll muddy it up with too much blending 😂 it's a beautiful painting btw!

Don't stress with the muddy because that's actually an entire art movement. Oils aren't scary at all, as you start using them you will naturally find your thing. Muddy is not bad. My paintings take weeks to dry because they are all about seeing the pallette knife or brush strokes. We all have our thing, I'm just saying 'no fear'. Jump in and express you!

I found blue shop towels at dollar general the other day made me think "Kevin would love these" i only got one for me for oil painting :)

I just recently started painting. I did a little in high school in the 80s. But I don't anything about Gesso?.....Jesso? Do you use that? Should I be using it on canvas? Canvas board? Thank You for your videos

Im having problems with my top layers picking up my under painting. I usually use the bob ross liquid white. What do you use to mix with your paint or coat your canvas with before painting. Ive really hit a wall with my progress

I use Gamblin clear gel medium and titanium white, 50/50

@@KevinOilPainting thank you kevin for replying. Ive been using linseed and white but have terrible problems doing final highlights. Gonna try being patient and letting it dry i reckon

Is there much difference between clear gel and liquid clear?

Do brushes get ruined from all the scrubbing?

Kevin, I'm distracted by the ceiling of your room behind the easel holder on the left. Why doesn't the dark color continue along the ceiling to the corner?

I think there's a lamp behind the canvas, and he might have a jerkinhead, mansard, or gambrel roof :)

This is amazing. I've been struggling on a painting I've been working on since January that's really similar. It was a new idea involving one of my grandma's Christmas decorations that she didn't like. The decoration is made of a faux glossy wood. So thought it would be cool if I painted with tape around the border. But soon realized that oil paints are horrible on faux glossy wood. So thus, my painting looks horrible. Even though I put like 20 coats of an acrylic primer over it. Part of me thinks I should just paint it black and try something more simple that caters to the faux wood. I thought about putting acrylic over it and touching up some details. But I heard that is bad to put acrylic over oil.
