Water Tank Level Sensor For Your Sprinter

Here's a simple and effective method for reading the level of your water tank inside your van. I'm using a float sensor inside the tank and an analog gauge to read the level remotely.

    Hey there! This was incredibly helpful! We just installed one with the Kus instructions and your video. The only thing I'd add is the drill bit size for pre drilling the screw holes. We ended up using a 9/64 drill bit and it worked perfectly. It seemed to bite just enough.

    Great video. Easy to understand and follow, eventually. I have to figure out how to hook it up to electricity before I buy the sensor. I’d like for it to be a DIY. At the moment, I’m thinking of pigtailing the source from an outlet, will this do? I have a 1973 Chinook Slide in camper with, according to the water in sensor, isn’t a 12 gal tank. Would it be right to multiply the LxWxD to get the volume or capacity? Thanks In advance if you answer the Q and thanks again for the installation video. The retro or white will go with the camper aesthetics.

    Do you think the float will continue to be free to fall and rise in a black tank over time? Or will it be stuck after a while? Or should the float be stainless steel?

    David, my tank is 16” in height, and I don’t know if it has ridges. What size is what you bought and is it something you have and would sell? It’s more important to know when I know this goes back almost a year, but do you still have the level? For me, it important to know when it gets close to empty, so I can work with something that’s between 11” and 15” in depth. If I have time, I’ll use my snake camera to see inside it, and check to see if there are ridges. Thanks.

    Hello there!. Great Video. Just liked. Im doing a Camper build and installing new tanks. What would you say are the benifits to using this type of sensor? Do the floats get stuck? There seems to be little to no info out there on using the float styles vs the little digital screw ins. However there is ALOT of info on fixing broken/nonfunctioning digital sensors. Not a good sign in my view.

  • @VanLand

    @VanLand

    I haven’t experienced the floats getting stuck. But I have experienced electronic sensors going bad so pretty much just use the float sensors now. Also they are very accurate if you get the right depth of sensor.

    @@ronpaguio9014 I fill my water tank at the back of the van, so I installed 1 gauge back there. I installed a 2nd gauge inside the van so that I can see the level without getting out and getting in the back of the van. I have a bike rack on the back of the van, And I really only move it out-of-the-way if I’m going to fill the water tank or use the exterior shower. I haven’t run power to the interior gauge yet, but the rear gauge is working well, and the wires are all set to go to the front gauge.
