A lot of these old B&W movies could be gems, IF digitally remastered....

Too much time killing..

Why did the writers/ directors not think It would be human nature for some of these cowboys, to take out their rifles & at least try to shoot down the plane when it was 80 - 100 feet up? n

Too much singing and not enough ass kickin'.

Well, to be fair this was 1939. The gunslinging cowgirl didn't become as big until the late 40s and especially the 50s. The singing cowboy movie gave way to the "shoot 'em up" type around 1950 also (though there were some earlier ones).
