Hey, I did just like you did and it works great. Thanks for posting!Q
This material is structural "C" channel, It is used for building trailers that have to be rated for carrying loads, It comes in many widths starting at 3'' all the way up over a foot. I made the video when work was slow one fall and figured it might help, I also had a web site made, I got so busy from the web site the water diversion went on the back burner, I was going to remove video but didn't as It seemed to be helping some. Jim
We have used salvaged sections of highway guardrail ("W" contour galvanized steel) for this purpose. They stay anchored very well, have no sharp edges, and are mostly self-cleaning. Car tires roll easily over the gap.

Chris Gilligan, where did you find such? Sounds like it would work for us.
What happens when the gravel and dirt fill in the channel?
Thanks for showing that it gives me Ideas for my drainage problem.
I grade roads towards the natural low side or into a ditch. Just a couple of degrees and the water will just run off the edge or into the ditch and prevent errosion. I've had some long enough with differing terrain where it was best to angel some of it in one direction and some of it the opposite direction.
I prefer a culvert
Lets just throw something out there, and see if it sticks! The driveway needs to be graded correctly. A piece of channel is not the solution.

All the water that flows from the left side has no place to go and has to cross the drive at some point. this allows it to cross over to the low side of drive and down a ditch. crowning a drive with ditches on both sides, yes, however over time wheel ruts are created and water flows down them making ruts. If you pay a grader every month to grade drive fine, most people won't
What happens when you hit it with the plow blade?
Thank you for the good idea, please ignore some of the posts below. Where might I find a channel like this to buy?
How did this work
No crown or large aggressive on the sides to slow it down
Where did you get the 3" channel? Is it metal??
isn't it going get clogged with debri eventually

Yes but it only takes a minute to clean it out.
I have the same problem. I used a 12" dia corrugated plastic culvert pipe, cut in half lengthwise. Then filled it with large gravel. It has yet to be tested.

@@doublebassinyafaceNope, it just clogged with dirt.
Not very impressive,I see a lot of run over?? And that is with a light rainfall?? Just imagine if you have a downpour wont save much damage from being done.

can this be put in asphalt driveway? What is the name of what this is? thanks

This is to prevent erosion.. Asphalt driveways dont experience such washout.. If water is an issue you may want to look into a local excavating company installing precast trench drains that empty into an underground pit..

Or buy a precast trench drain lol
Mine filled up with mud. Useless.

Easy to clean out!!
Too many things wrong with this idea from the start. A) It will have massive erosion on both sides of the channel. B) It will fill up with gravel, mud, leaves, sticks, etc, etc. C) It will freeze up in the winter and you'll have a huge ice patch on your driveway. D) Every time you grade your drive, you will be yanking this piece of steel out of place and then you'll be cussing yourself for ever putting it in. NOT a good idea!

Won't the channel help prevent you from regrading so often
