Water and Power: Creating Lake Wallenpaupack (Poconos)

Ойын-сауық

In the early 1900s, industry was hungry for power and a plan was created to form Lake Wallenpaupack as one of the largest hydroelectric dams in the northeastern United States. Water was the prime source of electric and mechanical generation in those days with rivers powering mills through out the Pocono Mountains. To build the Lake, land needed to be purchased, a dam built, and the town of Wilsonville needed to be flooded. Each phase had its challenges. Join us as we explore the history of creating Lake Wallenpaupack in Hawley Pennsylvania.

They used to provide tours when PPL owned the dam, but I don't believe they give tours any longer.

I’m drawing a blank, where exactly are the falls? I’d imagine fairly close to the dam now.
