    When I first watched this series I was honestly shocked by the reveal, unlike you I didn't see it coming. But yeah, it made a lot of sense, Fleabag carried more than just pain, it was also unbearable guilt and she wasn't even able to talk about it, she avoided it and hid it even from us. And it also explains her self-destructive behavior, it's so sad and that Boo seems to be the sweetest person makes everything even worse. That reveal scene was so amazing, the flashbacks, the camera movements, the acting, the way she looks so embarrassed and wants to run away from us, so overwhelmed. It gives me goosebumps every time. And the final scene when she cries breaks my heart 🥺 it's like you say it doesn't even look like acting, awesome.

    Same!! Phoebe Waller-Bridge talked about it in interviews. She said something along the lines of "When you get people to laugh, they open themselves up to you in that tiny moment. And that's when you get them." Like, when you interrupt the fun with something profoundly sad, it's going to hit much much deeper than it would have otherwise. Ugh, I just love her

    Lovely reaction. Very thoughtful. PWB is absolutely brilliant. I saw her one-woman show in the theater and it was even more riveting and heartbreaking. Very impressive that she told this entire story night after night with the same intensity.... And then managed to tell it again in this medium. Olivia Colman is stunning, as well. At first I didn't understand, but once the cat was out of the bag, it's clear Fleabag was in survival mode because of the Boo situation. Other than that, the fact that her family knows she's not well and still choose to not help her in any way... On top of that, her father not putting a stop to the stepmother and Claire not believing her was the last straw.

    I love this show for its realism and the unflattering portrayal of all the characters. People are what they are, with their good and bad sides. The father is weak and selfish but at the same time tries to make up for his sense of guilt by paying for the 'boobs doctor' and sending his girls to meetings and that's where F has the opportunity to reconnect with the bank guy who in his turn reconsiders his own conduct about the funding.

    My theory on why she fckd her boyfriend: When her mom died she started to go off path grieving, not being able to work out her emotional state, when the opportunity presented itself - she made a questionable choice, using the only thing that was stable and controlled in her life - her body. Being a somewhat cause of her friend's death and having that blame let her be everything she named herself in the first episode.

    Question: Do you think we're seeing the real Boo in this series or an idealized version (Saint Boo) in Fleabag's head? As for the father, I understand your antipathy towards him but strangely enough, I can appreciate his pov as well. I grew up in a similar situation and my dad also made the decision to prioritise his second marriage over his children from his first marriage. It fucked us up but the marriage was successful. She stuck by him right to the end. Life will sometimes demand brutal decisions and we all have to try and live with its consequences. His children are grown and he's trying to take care of himself as he grows old.

  • @KelseasComments

    @KelseasComments

    2 жыл бұрын

    I don't necessarily think it's idealized.. but I definitely think we're just seeing the best parts of Boo. I mean, aside from the flashback of her right before she commits the act. But I think we tend to remember the absolute best of people because that's what's most important to us. And Fleabag is dealing with so much guilt that she's remembering the Boo that was an amazing and loyal friend, the Boo that was wildly empathetic and pure of heart, because that's who her guilt keeps reminding her she betrayed. So ya, I don't think it's idealized as in untrue to some degree, I just think it's only the good so she seems perfect. That's my thought. I totally get what you're saying about the father. And I do agree with a lot of that too honestly. The dad is such an interesting character for me. They all are. That's the genius of this show I guess. But ya, I get mad at the dad because I view his actions as a parent and I get mad that he doesn't do what I would want to do as a parent. But if I sit back and look at him just as a person.. as his own person.. then I can feel a lot more for him and understand him way better. And as a parent, I know how important it is to treat myself as a person before I treat myself as a parent sometimes, especially for him since his children are grown.

    I don’t know about anyone else, but I think on some level Fleabag was in love with Boo in a romantic sense. The way she says I fucked my friend by fucking her boyfriend is a big one, especially coupled with the therapist in the second season asking if she wanted to fuck the priest or fuck God, the idea that she may not be acting towards the person she is trying to sleep with but act indirectly towards another objective. This as well as the many other little interactions support this in my mind

    Claire has a huge choice to make in her life, which will lead to a betrayal of her moral compass, so when you can't face a decision that you need, you lash out on people around you and put a blame on them. And i like that line: You need to see it from my point of you. (selfish, mentally unstable, "broken" sister), who is addicted to sex and attention to her body, of course youll doubt the sincerity of her words, even if you know she is right. But yeah, the moment for that phrase was not right and was even petty.
