'Sweet Dreams' was their biggest hit in the US, but in the UK it was this song. Got to number 1 in July 1985. Unfortunately it got knocked off the top spot by Madonna's 'Get into the groove', having spent only 1 week at the top. It deserved to have a longer run as no. 1, but 'Madonna mania' was beginning to sweep.across the UK, and nothing was going to stop it. 'Sweet Dreams' actually never made it to the top spot in the UK, but it came close.

Now you know what fun MTV used to be in the 80s-90s. Annie Lennox is my favorite singer, what a voice. The Eurythmics music videos were always such odd masterpieces. No one ever knew what to expect from the Eurythmics videos lol. I don't think they had anything typical song wise. Listen to 'I Have a Lover Back in Japan', 'Savage', 'When The Day Goes Down', "You have Placed a Chill in my Heart'--all different.

According to Eurythmics themselves they had a manifesto, one was "synthesizers" (their most recognizable feat musicwise) but then another was "Motown" which was all of the album from which " would I lie to you" was taken as a single. ("There must be an Angel" incl. harmonica by Stevie Wonder, and yes, the Gospel Choir able to wake up a glazed, jaded Louis XIV in France + "Sisters are Doin' it For Themselves" this amazing feminist anthem sung with the one and only Aretha Franklin) - very fun to see you enjoy, best & all 🙂

12:38 This song came up a couple of years ago in a discussion in a Eurythmics fan group I’m in. I chimed in that Joniece Jamison (the backing singer who sings the counter melody and appears in this video) was absolutely amazing on this song and I said how I love watching her live concerts with Eurythmics as she can really carry it when Lennox is off stage changing costumes etc. Half an hour later, Joniece replied to me and said thanks very much. That was my year made!

Track one is supreme! Angelic indeed with the seventh (Stevie) Wonder in the world on the harmonica! One of my favorites! Grateful to see this reaction today. Track two was a hit but not my favorite(but the video is super good!), a jam for sure though! Track three was a very big hit on the dance floor and we all loved the defiant & rebellious tone(us true rebels that is)& what they did with the harmonica was strangely good. {Upon the single's July 1986 US release, the song was described as being inspired in part by Lennox's 1984-1985 marriage to devout Hare Krishna Radha Raman. When discussing the song's inspiration and meaning, Lennox stated "Obviously, there is a personal meaning in [Missionary Man] for me, because of my past history. But I also think that there are a great deal of people in the media, in the form of politicians or religious speakers or philosophical people, people who are generally trying to have some power over other people, who I just don't trust.} & Joniece Jamison killed it on background vocals! Track 4 I love for her vocal range and it was another big hit but it is what love about the many sides of Annie Lennox in that there is something for everybody.

Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox use to be romantically involved. They were in some Pop groups together; but even though a couple never actually wrote any songs together. Years later after breaking up; they met in a Pub in Australia and decided to form a duo group and write their own songs. And thus the Eurythmics were born. SO I heard. PS OH! if ya didnt know, Anne Lennox sung (and co-wrote) the song at the end of Return of the King (Lord of the Rings), the one with the pencil drawings of the characters.

Wow thanks so much for bringing Eurythmics back into my life! Have always loved them, especially in the 80's, but been years since I've listened to them. How amazing are Annie and Dave! What a way to begin my Sunday morning! What a medley!

During the 80's in the UK there were three women who had the best British female award at the Brit awards sewn up, Annie Lennox, Kate Bush and Alison Moyet. You've discovered two of these now and I hope you find the third.

Wow! You started with my favorite song by my favorite female rocker. In the 1st song, the harmonica is played by Stevie Wonder (as only he can)! Before you dry up all Eurythmics and Anne Lennox, you should check out her and David Bowie's tribute to Freddie Mercury with "Under pressure".

The date of Freddie Mercury’s death is next week, 11/24/91. Love Me Like There’s No Tomorrow (Official Video) Freddie Mercury Solo, was used in honor of The Mercury Phoenix Trust fighting AIDs worldwide. A very beautiful song & meaningful video.

They have not made a single bad album. Even the reunion album, 'Peace' was a hidden gem.

Fabulous! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️! I think I prefer this format cause it's easier to ACTUALLY just watch one video, or two... Like, with the other ones, I'd just watch one, then two, then twenty-seven... :)

Thank you for the video! They are my favourites since I was in highschool in the 80th.... If I take the greatest hits LP I can't find any song that I dont't like. I'm looking forward to see #2 in a few minutes!

Stumbled across your videos, and just love them, particularly your “deep dives”! If you do a deep dive 2, you really should incorporate “The Miracle of Love”, “No More I love you’s” and my all time favourite, “Sex Crimes (1984)”. She also did a great collab with Aretha Franklin on “Sisters Are Doing It For Themseves”.

In my top 5 female vocalists. You really need to listen to this DIVA sing 'Why?' and 'No More I Love You's.' Blessings from South Australia. 🇦🇺
