"Realizing Woody Is The REAL VILLAIN Here" that's interesting because Woddy was supposed to be the villain..it was the case in the original screenplay, but they changed it quite at the last minute after negative responses to the test screening. @@Zale__ Yeah the original story was pretty dark . As another comment mentioned below, the movie title was supposed to be “the Black Friday Reel . Here a mini partial summary (they didn’t release the whole story to the public I believe): Woody was supposed to be a ventriloquist doll (instead of a stuffed doll ) as the evil leader of the gang and constantly yelling at Bo and Mr. Potatoe head . When Buzz arrives Woody becomes jealous and purposely pushes him out of the window. The other toys witnessed that and make a rebellion.Then the gang throws Woody out of the window as well before reaching out to Buzz . The scene where Woddy is stuck under a toolbox and Buzz is strapped to a rocket while it’s raining outside, Woody gives a fake apology to Buzz before leaving him dying in Sid’s hands….😐yikes 😅 I don’t know what they were thinking 🤔…but I guess it’s because the chairman asked them to make a more mature story than common Disney’s story…but they obviously pushed it too hard lol . They only got 2 weeks to rewrite the plot ..and that’s simply bc one of the executives begged for two weeks to fix the movie instead of shutting it down.That’s crazy 😱

The reason Mrs. Davis is a single mother was simply because the budget wouldn't allow for another human character to be designed and rendered (even the brief glimpse of Sid's dad is just a disembodied arm and leg, while the Pizza Planet driver has no visible face).

What Could Have Been: - Paul Newman was the first choice for the role of Woody before Tom Hanks was cast. However, Pixar couldn't afford to cast him since they were given a lower budget for the movie. Newman would eventually go on to voice Doc Hudson in Cars. - Billy Crystal was approached for the part of Buzz Lightyear, but Crystal wanted nothing to do with then-creative chief of Disney Jeffrey Katzenberg, whose recklessness in promoting Aladdin had permanently strained Disney's relationship with Crystal's friend Robin Williams, and turned down the role. He later said it was the biggest mistake of his career and later jumped at the chance to voice Mike Wazowski in Monsters, Inc..

Actually, Robin Williams and Clint Eastwood were also offered the role for Woody. As for Buzz, Bill Murray (Who was also offered the role for Sully in Monsters Inc.), Chevy Chase, Jim Carrey, Jason Alexander, Dan Aykroyd, Matthew Broderick, Kevin Costner, Michael J. Fox, Richard Gere, David Hasselhoff, Michael Keaton (who later voiced Ken in Toy Story 3), Wayne Knight (who later voiced Al in Toy Story 2), Bill Paxton, Dennis Quaid, Kurt Russell, Adam Sandler and John Travolta, were also considered for the role of Buzz.

The original version of this scene from the Black Friday screening had him intentionally and strategically throwing Buzz out the window, watch that scene, it was disturbing.

The Buzz Lightyear movie that's coming out is about the man they made the toy for. So it makes sense that the human's voice is different from the toy's voice.

Toy Story doesn't miss and the Buzz Lightyear cartoon was great. I believe in this franchise and all of the movies have been excellent without getting old.

Billy: “I did a movie commentary to it, but don’t go watch it, people hated it” Me: going to watch it right after this one

I think woody is a flawed character which was progressive for its time. He wasn’t a hero but he wasn’t a villain either. His methods at the beginning were horrible, but he made a mistake and tried to fix it. I saw another commentary where the other toys just left Woody to rot in a sociopath’s (Sid’s home) which was just as bad. Ok “troublemakers”, you know who I am talking about. I like how Woody and Buzz were able to get through the Woody’s previous betrayal and work together and they are great friends throughout the series. That is a good arc and character growth there.

During the first song when Andy's playing with him, you see Woodys expression change a few times. Also in the other toys defense: even though Woody didn't knock Buzz out the window on purpose, he did intend to knock Buzz behind the desk. They did catch him with Buzz's disembodied arm and later Woody kicked RC off the moving van with an malicious laugh. I can't blame the others for thinking Woody's gone off the deep end considering he doesn't come off well in this movie.

The main reason Steve Jobs served as an executive is because he was one of the three founders of Pixar. I actually have a bit of a theory as to why Woody has an ego during the first half of this movie. It's a bit spoilery, but during Toy Story 2 we see that Woody belongs to an old set of toys part of an old merchandise chain for a TV show called Woody's Roundup, which he just finds out about in that movie. It's also stated he was a hand-me-down, possibly from Andy's father or mother. So, in my head Woody's been loved for so long that maybe he got it in his head that he really is that great of a toy and why he feels threatened when Buzz starts taking his place in Andy's life, because he thinks he's still that great. This would also make the moment he explains to Buzz why he's better than himself more impactful, because he's admitting that over time he's kind of become old fashion. But in the end Andy still likes them both equally and in Toy Story 2 is pretty distraight when Woody's arm rips. Maybe it's just me looking too deep into it, though.

Randy Newman also did Down in New Orleans in the Princess and the Frog.

The first time I saw this movie I was 8 years old and my aunt and uncle took all us kids to the theater as it was starting to snow.

Ooooh, the movie Disney made right around the same time as "The Little Mermaid," which was why Ariel had red hair instead of blonde, so as not to get confused with Disney's other fish-out-of-water mermaid? Nice!

Tbh growing up I wasn't much of a fan of toy story but as I left from my childhood and into my traumatic teens,years that were ass and just moved by quickly, looking back at the movies and messages behind these fun movies it was quite emotional . And now I'm waiting for more Toy story lol. Probably gonna be like 25 or something when I see another one lol

Film came out in 1995 so I was 8-9 years old, I remember those theater snack tray with the popcorn, candy and drink with the movie on it. Man the memories

A couple years after this movie came out (I was already at least 10) my older sister came home super freaked out. A mutual friend had told her about their first-hand experience of doll possession (moving on it's own, voice, all the things). She didn't calm down until I pried the story out of her... I may be the little sister, but Billy- I did exactly what you said you used to do. I picked on her, my style. It was like 930pm so it's super dark and she's in the darkest corner of the room- shaking the entire bunkbed with her terror. When she got done with the story I realized next to me I had a doll who'd had a few years on her and because of multiple accidents her plastic head would go all the way around her head. I lowered the doll down so she could see the doll and spun her head around slowly, just like Woody and quoted the show "We see everything." *slightly sadistic sigh*

*sees title of the video* BRO have you heard of the black friday reel? In the original concept of the movie, like FULLY STORYBOARDED CONCEPT Woody WAS INDEED meant to be way more callous, a jerk, and arrogant.Lasseter felt embarrassed after showing the real, when it was shown how unlikable not just Woody, but all the characters were. The reel nearly got the film shut down by Disney. One of the changes was that Woody's characterization was significantly softened so that the audience will sympathize with Woody rather than view him as a villain. I mean Woody now is KIND OF a jerk, but it is understandable that he's a bit....not rude just kind of stressed with the move. He's not MEAN, but he certainly isn't the most empathetic toy either. That comes later. AND THIS SO WORKS for future Toy Story movies; his jealously and learning how to overcome that jealously, allows him to make HUGE decisions that benefit and impact the entire group, rather than just himself. Hell it takes four movies for Woody to realize you CAN think of yourself, and put yourself first, but there's a right way to go about it.

Lots of good memories with this one. It came out when my dad was stationed in Germany and we had to wait months for the base theater to get it. Same! My family was stationed in Giessen when Toy Story came out. I remember when Titanic came out and we was all lapped up and sitting in the aisle of the base theater. Give a military base a free screening of a movie and best believe we all fin be cheek to cheek in there lmao.

Dude I was 5 or 6 and saw this in theaters when it first came out and I was BLOWN AWAY at how *real* everything looked! It doesn’t hold up as well now but 3D animation was completely new at the time and it was big deal.

Most of the movie DID take place in the summer-A peak time for moving if you have kids so they don't have to miss any school days and the transition to a new school is much smoother. So, between that and the Christmas scene at the end was about 4 months

This is the first movie I can remember seeing in theaters. I was 4 when this came out and I have vivid memories seeing this. One of my favorite movies.

Telling us we can do it and that we’re strong, telling us you love us, etc. I love watching movies with you because you make me laugh, but that side of you that makes me feel good about myself is a nice bonus. Thanks for helping me to not be so hard on myself all the time. And for reminding me to drink water! I saw this movie in the theater when it came out, I think I was a teenager. It’s still as funny to me now as it was then. And I never knew the voice of the dinosaur is the Inconceivable guy! That’s hilarious. And I do remember that the first time I saw Minions, I was heavily reminded of the alien dudes in this movie. I think they were definitely influenced by it.

Okay but like I love how excited you got for this movie. It's honestly cute seeing you just have a good old time to with this movie and others from your youth. Toy Story got some good moments.

When the buzz movie come out everyone should watch it, the movie has an amazing scene that a lot of people will appreciate, it’s the first Disney movie to do it. I got to preview a sample and it was great. She’d some tears

I don’t remember how old I was but I remember going to the movies twice to see it, once with my dad and again with my friend and his folks.

There is only one natural course of action: watch every Toy Story film. Oh, and also if you can find it: Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command: The Adventure Begins (that's the premiere movie for the show Buzz is based off of in-universe)

Ya know, I wanna see Billy tackle a niche movie from Disney called "Geppetto" . Had Drew Carey in the title role. Good movie, a couple songs are a straight BOP.

Yesss and Wayne Brady!! Come on! I was so thrilled when it came out that the guys from Whose Line Is it Anyway? Were in a Disney movie.

The old animation is so funny woody was hilarious he was actually such a bad person 😭
