If you've ever watched Vikings or The Last Kingdom you'll learn that in Scandinavian culture whenever they see a hooded old man and ravens in the sky during a battle, they deem it as a good omen and that the tide of the battle will turn to their favor.

It makes perfect sense within the context of the lore of why the Assassins exist at all and what their purpose is. :D While the Order utilizes stealth and discretion to minimize collateral damage (like the death of innocents) and to skirt around detection and being hunted into extinction by Templars...there are times when staying to the shadows doesn't serve the greater good and have at times had to engage in large scale warfare. While Vikings have been widely portrayed as maurading brutal barbarians---raping and pillaging their way across Britain, the evidence just doesn't support it. Vikings were first and foremost farmers, merchants, traders, and seafarers. Were there bands of Vikings who lived up to the stereotype? Sure. In every civilization that has ever existed, there have been that handful of individuals who gave their civilization a bad rep and gave fodder to tyrannical rulers who relied on the success of propaganda to secure alliances in order to push out or annihilate peoples that they felt threatened by or---like in the case of Vikings---felt they were heathens who undermined Christiandome's attempt to burn out paganism by any means necessary. The vast majority of Vikings were model immigrants. They assimilated well within the lands they came in contact with and settled in. In some lands, the Norsemen were praised (i.e. in Ireland, one Viking king who had settled there, was honored with "praise" poetry dedicated to his rule by the indigenous community). They were highly intelligent and sophisticated people who made it their responsibility to learn the language and adopt the customs of the people they settled among rather than vise-versa. This is what is reflected in the trailer at the beginning...the lie (Templar propaganda) vs the truth. I know I just wrote a novel but knowing Viking history and Assassin Creed lore, I just can't help but dismiss the notion that Vikings are an ill-suited match for induction into the Order.

Part of the narrative of the trailer is showing that the "barbarians" rhetoric attached to vikings really wasn't accurate, even if they were pretty damn good at some brutal warfare. They were a lot of other things besides raiders and pillagers; though that's led some people to be concerned that they'll diminish the humanity of their English counterparts. I think they'll take a very neutral stance in the games story since it'll probably be more about how the Templar's pulling the strings from behind the scenes anyways. Still I am curious as well how there came to be a Norse Assassin's guild. Or more likely there was one in England and he joins them after getting there.

The reason as to why they dont make a stand alone viking game, is because they wont get more than half of the playerbase that they get with Assassins Creed title. The reputation of the game series alone will probably increase the sales with a couple millions copies ^^

I'd suggest watching the show Vikings if you haven't. That way you could delve deeper into Norse mythology. There were many things in this trailer that were similar to the show in my opinion & it was cool to see.

some politcal things that the "vikings" used are still used today in democracy countrys. So this "guy" on the tree with the cape and black bird... thats how the nords "see" his godfather odin. Odin is the allfather the god of gods, they have many gods like thor, freya etc. The nordish peoples had very efficent strategies to fight wars and most of them arent "real" trained soldiers, they mostly were farmes, grown up in a harsh land having a farm, they were taller than the average guys and way more muscular. Also they believed that there is a glory in dying in a battle, so they fought as many as they can, bcs when they die, they will celebrate in valhalla with their Gods everyday and fighting there everyday. Just making it short so u maybe can understand

aaron wilson NO AC is completely historically accurate, they probably will change the outcome in some small way considering after Alfred’s death Vikings still raided for quite some time. I’ve always just treated it as historical fiction ofc

@@azawilson1 I get the impression that Alfred isn't the villain, but is instead being manipulated by the Templars. What makes me think that? Watch the trailer again and take note of Lord Farquaad's smirk...that's the look of someone who is seeing the fruits of their labors in deception. Also take note of Lord Farquaad's expression of shock at Eivor taking down the Mountain, which transitions into genuine fear when his eyes settle on the hidden blade. Only a Templar would know that the one with the hidden blade is someone to fear. In contrast, Alfred is speaking with conviction---he believes what he is saying is true. Because there's no audience present (outside of Lord Farquaad, who is totally down with waging war), he's obviously not pandering propaganda. The only way this scene makes any sense is in the context that the Vikings are being set up and Alfred is being groomed into being a tool for the Templars. Waging war on the Vikings will flush out the Assassin Order so that they can be targeted for extermination...leaving the Templars to have control over the Islands unimpeded. It's going to be interesting to see if they stick with this setup and if they do, it will be interesting to see if Alfred catches on to the manipulation and if so, which side he finds himself defending (likely to his own peril either way).

@Everyday V That's not actually true Scandinavia as a whole had a more warmer climate then today's Scandinavia so food wouldn't be an issue the more likely reason is overpopulation/ gender in balance due to there being way more man then woman in Scandinavia at that time. The idea of them being 3 nations that were all starving is just wrong. Also the Vikings who did the raiding acted no different then any nations around that time since they all did it and they all took part in what happens during raids, the reason the Vikings get highlighted is due to their belief being different to Christianity and they were genuinely more successful then anyone else so the kingdoms of the time had a common enemy to spread wrong information about since the people who did the writing in them times would've been biased towards them. The reason for settling places was cos they could farm more and get more food yes, but it was also for trade opportunities and they had conquered the land so what not settle it right.

Black flag was not one of the best. Its the worst assassins creed but best pirate game. The main characters not even an assassin he murdered and looted an assassin. Alot like modern day assassins creed, no more assassins just historic games. Like odyssey was awesome but it was not an assassins creed game.... It didnt even have a hidden blade

Boddypen I do not believe it comes even close to being the worst Assassin’s Creed or the best pirate game. It was interesting seeing the Kenway bloodline in different time periods and how Edward slowly developed some morales as the game went on. While not technically being initiated to be an official Assassin, I think by heart he was and that’s what I believe the Assassin’s Brotherhood is all about.
