I still prefer his interpretation in the book. He intended for some systems to go off and to be able to get to the docks and back within like 15 minutes or so. The intent was never to sabotage the park but to sabotage Hammond when he learned that his competitors had also made dinosaurs. But Nedry in the movie just switches off all of the fences because they made it so that he had to go through several fences for the plot of the movie. I guess they wanted Nedry to be even less sympathetic for the film.

@@vodkarage8227 It's also a matter of exposure. Movies are so full of special effects these days we've been desensitized. Even the adults were having their minds blown when Jurassic Park first came out. We've unfortunately hit the point where we're gonna need something incredible to give us those feelings again. My guess is the first true VR film will be that item. Something where you watch the movie play out around you as if you were personally in the scene. I've watched simple versions of that, and even though VR is still very primitive and early in its development it still blew my mind. It was a little claymation-style animation that took place on a small 'stage' about the size of a table, and I could move around and look at the little characters in the story from any angle I could move to. It was spell-binding. So mainstream VR with fully-realized tech is what's gonna be the next thing that leaves audiences speechless is my guess. So... we've got a bit of a wait ahead of us 😕

One of the more subtle messages of the movie (it's more obvious in the book) is also that Hammond, even though he "spared no expense", was actually really bad at it. He thought that just spending money on fancy tech could replace really knowing what he was doing, and as soon as that tech fails everything goes wrong.

I think Ian Malcolm sums it up really well during the dinner scene: "I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're using here: it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could and before you even knew what you had you patented it and packaged it and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you're selling it, you want to sell it!"

watching this movie with zookeepers really put things into perspective. The animals had no toys or means of play. All the food was tied up and handed to them so they didnt need to hunt. No wonder the raptors and t-rex went straight to the first thing that moved, they must have been bored out of their mind.

It's also a lie. He didn't "spare no expense". He hired one man to write the code for the entire park and underpaid him for it. And that's not the only time he cut corners. If you look throughout the movie there are several incidents where things have been poorly made. The raptor transfer pen was easily broken by the raptor inside it. The helicopter's seatbelts weren't right. The ride was easily broken out of. The vehicle doors didn't lock. They never tested what would happen if they had to reboot the power. Etc.

I've been binging these lately, and one thing I think I love is that there's a particular innocence, or almost a naivete, in these guys. Not because they're "village bumpkins" or anything, certainly not. But because as a western audience that by and large grew up with films and cinema, there's a particular... I don't know, language, almost, to the way a film is shot and edited. We generally know what to expect and how we're going to get from A to B. We've been trained on the three-act structure, we know when to expect the climax, when an action sequence is just an action sequence and not a real danger, when and how we're being "manipulated" by the movie to feel a certain way or think a certain thing, we know about storytelling devices and axioms like Chekhov's Gun, for example. These guys are most definitely going to develop that over time, but for now, they don't have that, and it's beautiful to watch them just go along for the ride and enjoy it.

That was great, I especially liked the older gentleman's song at the end...he's a fantastic drummer! His commentary about the gallimimus flock looking like ostriches was a terrifically smart observation, since birds really are dinosaurs. But they were both so astute in their observations about the dangers of tampering with nature through genetic engineering. This brought a big smile to my face and made me remember what it was like when I first saw this movie in theatres as a child.

Not only did they enjoy the film, they appreciated the message of the film as well. I highly suggest Epics like Ben-Hur, Gladiator, The Ten Commandments and although not an epic Akira Kurosawa's "The Seven Samurai".

29:50 -- I love that they picked up that Alan was going to be able to get it to follow the light, but then Ian, not understanding, ruined it and got Rex to chase him. I won't lie, took me damn near 20 years to notice that detail xD

I was 4 1/2 years old when I saw this in theaters with my parents, because I loved dinosaurs as a kid. I was good up until the t Rex started attacking the kids in the car...and I basically ran out of the theater screaming and crying lol. My dad gave me a pep talk and we got right back in, and I finished the rest no problem. I think the good acting by the kids is what did it. Seeing and hearing kids barely older than me giving convincing screams for their life, it triggers something in kids in particular.

I saw Jurassic Park at the cinema when it first came out. I was 14, and it was the scariest film I had ever seen! Especially when the raptor jumped onto the kitchen counter. 😱

Joseph Mazzello (Tim) is 39 years old now, Ariana Richards (Lex) is 43, in comparison Jeff Goldblum (Ian) was 40 and Sam Neill (Allen) was 43 when they filmed Jurassic Park. If you saw this as a kid you probably feel old now. You're welcome.

@@NelsonWin I made a mathematical error, she started acting 3 years after I was born in 1973 in the Burt Reynolds action movie White Lightning, basically the Dukes of Hazzard's inspiration, she was 6 years old in that movie, that makes her 26 and 56 then and now. I should have just Googled her birthday, now everyone knows I suck at maths.
