Watch Us Mow A Lawn Start To Finish & Lay Beautiful Stripes!!

Today we're mowing one of my commercial sites from start to finish, and today we'll be using the Cub 960 ztr. A lot of you guys have been enjoying the mowing footage, so here ya go!
This whole site only takes about an hour and change to do, that includes trimming and blowing. I finally got a nice mount for the GoPro to capture some trimming footage, so you can see us slice through grass like a samurai, ha!
At the end, I'm going to share my final thoughts and debrief on the Cub Cadet 960 demo we've been doing. Overall I have to give the mower a solid B+ rating. I can't express how surprised I am at how well this mower performed. Cub really has a gem on their hands and could really stir up the commercial competition with this new mower.
What did you guys think overall of the Cub laying down stripes in the last few vlogs? Did it exceed your expectations too? Let me know in the comments down below!

I love this story. You have a way of telling great stories Kieth. I purchased your Audiobook right before I went and got the LLC for my business and want to thank you. You helped inspire me to chase after my dream of owning my own business albeit a small one at the moment. I left a job I dispised. Working as an automotive technician at a tire shop for peanuts. I liked my coworkers for the most part but one day, my boss had me go outside in the spring and I’ll never forget. He had me install a small 10x15 ish are of mulch. A truck load that I spent a whole 8 hours shoveling and leveling and I loved the work. But I had an epiphany. I just performed a job for my boss that I would charge a client $400 easily or more to do. I did it for him for about 8-9 dollars an hour. Maybe earned $60 and at that moment I walked inside and joked with him and said I can’t wait for my “landscape bonus”. He laughed and said yeah right. But little did he know I made up my mind at that day. In that exact moment. That I’m not cut out for a 9-5 job. And that I will never ever let a corporate world control me or my worth ever again. I rallied all of my resources. A mower that needed a rebuild. I built a portable shelter logic garage. Fixed my mower. Put it on my little 5x8 utility trailer. Got an LLC and began working steadily towards the goal of getting my first client. And I succeeded. I will never forget. After leaving that horrible job. Feeling peace as I drove an hour and a half to the first job of my new company working for myself. I was also terrified. I didn’t even have a weed wacker. I took my mower and the client let me borrow his. I did a full 8 hour work day of weed wacking, mowing and picking up trash. For what I would have earned in an entire week at this other job. I was so proud when I came home that night and looked at my girlfriend and said “this is it.” It will work, we got this. I haven’t looked back since and although I still don’t have enough clients to pay bills with yet and it’s been rough. I’m slowly building confidence and growing the business. Last week I met a wonderful client. Did a nice fall cleanup cutting bushes down. Had a blast and worked all by myself. No drama and can’t wait for spring to take off again. That’s my story of knowing your worth and thanks again Kieth your stories have inspired me to try my best and leaf my dead end job.

When a person thinks of Cub it is hard not to think of them as residential box store mowers, I get that. But I must say these Cub commercials are pretty amazing and built like a tank. Plus they have the best warranty out there which tells me they are going to stand behind their product. I’ve been researching new zero turns for a while and from everything I’ve tried and looked at, I think I’m going with the cub.

Running a Pro Z760S, I can say CC has surprised me. The cut quality far exceeded my expectations, but fuel consumption for the 31 hp Kawasaki was what surprised me the most. I figured it would be a fuel-hog, but fuel consumption has been pleasingly low. I've used lap bars, but the steering wheel model is just as maneuverable as one with lap bars, plus you have the added stability on steeper grades, which for me is a big plus. As far as longevity goes, only time will tell, but as of this moment I'm pleased.

I currently have 16 Exmark X series and love them, but am demoing 2 Cubs right now.. good machines!! Tanks are still 15 gallons total.. the cap is on the side for easy filling .. you don’t have to left fuel can up all the way to top of tanks .. you get less spills with cap on side.. Impressed so far.. Well see if they keep preforming.. You doing a great just on your vids !! Keep up the good work ..

I had a question is there a reason why you take the guard off the trimmer the company I work for would not allow it do to OSHA and had to wear stealtoe that was in the Lansing Michigan area any thoughts on that as well?

I just like my line longer. OSHA requirement is to operate equipment the way they are manufactured. In this case guard on. But very few “pros” run them with a guard.

Just one question? Why do you not string line first and cut up the extra grass rather the other way around? Great video as usual btw 💪🏾

  • @BriansLawnMaintenance

    @BriansLawnMaintenance

If you mow first, there’s less to trim, and also it’s harder to judge the height of the mower if you trim first. What I mean is, guys usually trim too low and scalp anytime they trim first. It’s always been my opinion to mown first and outline a property, and then have the trimmer guy follow up behind you. Much faster that way!

@@BriansLawnMaintenance. Ok thanks for the reply I know everyone has their own style and preferences but I just figured from an aesthetic perspective it would look better when the extra grass was cut with the regular grass rather than being left behind after the job is completed.

Question: Why does cub cadet use a FX1000 engine for this particular mower? I’m assuming it’s a 60 inch deck, verses my new Lazer Z ultra 60 has a FX751. My mower seems to have all the cutting power in the world!! How does ExMark determine which engine for which zero turn? I bought mine brand new in May 2019 off the show room. Does the dealer choose the engine?? I’m just curious?? Thanks Brian! Your videos helped me determine which zero turn to buy!! I’m Team ExMark all the way!!

Big engines on Z-turns to cut homeowner & manicured corporate lawns/grass is a marketing/selling feature. The deck design, blades, blade tip speed, hydro-trans, tires, pulleys, spindles, center of gravity, accessory attachments for seasonal work are more important, along with dealer friendliness, service, & cooperation to your needs.

  • @bmlandmanagementco4981

Your FX751 has all of the cutting power in the world until you get into the thicker taller stuff. From what I’ve seen,...the bigger the engine, the bigger the pumps for added speed. For the type of mowing that I do,...I’ll take an FX1000 all day on any brand before I’d even consider an FX751. In regards to ExMark,...you have engine options for each series. So you’re not stuck with what they give you. I demoed a 60” Radius X with the FX751. It cuts great for weekly and biweekly jobs. After that, your speed is drastically reduced.

2 good comments so far with reasons why, both good. I’ve never ran a Kawi on a Z, just the EFI Kohlers. But it’s always more to the story. Maybe volume buying discounts on the corporate side, optimization between hardware and engine performance, who knows really. Perhaps the Cub has more recent engineering and upgrades. The current Z design came out in 2011 I believe.. so perhaps they’re due for a refresh / redesign. All answers above my pay grade, ha!

Brian's Lawn Maintenance Thank you guys for the great answers!! So far I’m very happy!! This engine even runs my x series bagger efficiently too!! After further research the FX751V has a very good torque rating for its size! In conclusion, I had concerns after I bought this zero turn about power. I had to wait 2 weeks for the dealer to order the bagger and install it!! The dealer said that this engine was more than sufficient. While waiting for my eXMark to be delivered I did some research and found your YT channel! The videos I watched showed zero turns similar to mine with higher HP engines. I was naturally concerned whether I had enough HP?? However, after receiving it and putting 14 hours on her, I am very satisfied!! I recommend the FX751V for residential use! Hopefully this will help others in the market who have engine option questions!! Love this channel, and how helpful people are on it!!

You clearly cant see quality when its put right in front of your face. Give me any machine that takes care of me and my customers, leaves a great cut and is reliable and I dont care who makes it. Enough with all the petty stupid talk. And folks for goodness sakes, lay off about Brians trimming skills or any other skills. Lets see you do better on your big KZread channels.
