WATCH THIS BEFORE YOU GET A CHAMELEON.. (Care Guide, Setup + Tips!)

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Ever since I welcomed my lil sassy panther chameleon Carl into my life, I've been getting a TON of dm's asking me how to take care of him and asking if it's really as hard as most people say.. So today I'm going to be talking about EVERYTHING from cool facts about them, different chameleon species that are popular in the pet trade (veiled/yemen, jackson's and panthers), housing setup, lighting, humidity, food, common health issues & hopefully that will either deter or motivate you in your decision to get a chameleon! This is a video I've wanted to make for a long time, so I really hope that you guys find this useful!
TIME STAMPS :
General facts - 2:15
Which species is right for you? - 6:28

**UPDATE** just posted a new video talking about the negatives of having them as pets, def check it out if you're considering getting one just so you're totally prepared! kzread.info/dash/bejne/fX-tuMqykcrMiZs.html also i completely forgot to add that vitamins are a SUPER important part of your chameleon's diet!! you should get a multivitamin and dust it over their food once every 2 weeks. the one i currently use is the 'zoomed reptivite (without d3)' also i've had a lot of questions from people confused on whether or not they should get a mesh or glass enclosure, and i'd say it mostly boils down to the humidity of where you live. so even though a place like las vegas gets really hot, the humidity is very low so you'd still want to get a glass enclosure vs in florida you'd get a mesh because it's very humid hope that sums it up! :)

Hello, I have a question. Since I live in Arizona, should I get a mesh terrarium or glass terrarium? Also, do I need a humidifier ( again since I live in Arizona )? One last question, what size exo terra tank do you use? Thanks!

@@Usurno1 You have to actively keep their enclosures clean and they won't smell.

@@vuunda2 Hi! I live in Arizona too, and while I don't own a chameleon, I do own a ball python. I'd get a glass terrarium because the humidity in my home is usually around 30-40% which is much too low for a BP or chameleon. If you cannot keep the humidity up with moss, EcoEarth, live plants, etc. I would recommend an auto-mist or drip system so you aren't spending most of your time misting the tank and stressing out your chameleon. A lot of people use mesh enclosures because chameleons like humidity but absolutely need high airflow. When mesh tanks are used, there is always both an auto-mister and drip system, all bioactive, you name it. The room its in is generally kept humid, not just the tank. So with a glass enclosure, you cannot cover the mesh top like you can with a snake or it could make the chameleon very sick. The size of tank depends on the type of chameleon, Megan said the perfect dimensions for different types at 10:20. Some may need a larger tank depending on how active they are and how big they get, but most don't.

I'm from Hawaii and just found a jackson's chameleon a couple days ago! They live at the higher elevations where it gets colder at night like where I live, so it makes sense since they're from a mountain region. I didn't know that! But they're super cute. I've had to move a couple before because sometimes they climb up our screen doors so I move them back to the trees.

I’ve had my chameleon for over three years now and my husbandry still isn’t the best- his colors are pretty dull but they’re not sickly (he used to be brown- he’s a panther chameleon) and I feel pretty bad. I live in Georgia (USA) and can’t get too much to help him out due to my mother (I’m 17 but still can’t drive or anything). I put him on vitamins almost a year ago and he’s recovered quite a bit- he’s still a strong chameleon that climbs a lot, loves crickets (and the occasional horn worm now), has an attitude and is pretty strong. He’s currently shedding, too. Wish I could do better for him but I don’t have the resources sadly- but I love him so much anyways. He doesn’t have to be super colorful and vibrant for me to love him anyways (he’s an odd color of traffic cone orange and green- it’s a weird mix, but he’s still a cutie). This video was quite informative still, dunno why I felt the need to comment but yeah.

Thanks Megan! I’m a new subscriber, but happy I stumbled across your video because I have had the same issue with finding so many different opinions and being told that what I was doing was completely wrong. Which I might add is totally discouraging. At any rate, I’m super happy and excited again about having a chameleon (veiled), and I also have a male as well! His name is Oscar! I definitely will keep watching, so thanks again!

I don’t have a chameleon, but I have a bearded dragon. It will probably be a little different, but this is how I do. Get a large cricket keeper with the black tubes. Put your crickets inside. The last step is, buy orange cube cricket food, and put it in. When clearing it out, take the tubes out and empty everything in the trash.
