Our Story:
We are four years into a seven year effort of transforming 20 acres of "Piney
Grove" in Northwest Florida into our dream homestead/mini farm to be filled
with animals and joy. We plan to have a variety of miniature critters on our
pastures, raise free-range chickens, grow fish in our pond, garden
organically, plant fruit and nut trees, and harvest wild game. Our goal is
to escape the stresses of corporate life and embrace all that country living
has to offer as we enter the next chapter of our lives. Follow along on our

We just had a 1 acre pond dug at our farm. It’s been very dry here in TN this summer. We got 2.5 inches of rain one day last week and the filled about 1/4 full. Now all the water has slowly left, it’s been 1 week. Do you think there is a soak in period for the ground to absorb water? Or do I have a leak

  • @PineyGroveHomestead

@@tylerroberts8138 I would give it a year or so for the clay voids to fill, but if it won't hold water after it's "silted" in, it probably leaks. The deeper the water gets, the more pressure it puts on the bottom to find leaks. We need to re-do the bottom of our pond.

Luckily our pond build worked. Several feet down is good clay soil so area ponds hold will hold water. Proper dam construction is the key here. I didn't hesitate having dam design and site inspected by engineer. And lucky owner of grading company hobby was pond building. Anyway back you, enjoyed video. Congratulations on a nice pond and a sweet beautiful wife. We'll celebrate our 50th anniversary this April. Got a beautiful sweetheart also. G.M.

I live in the city now in central Florida but I want to buy some acreage in North central Florida and live there and have a self-sustaining pond on it. The pond leaks down rapidly. We're not sure how we'll fix that going forward....whether it's drain it completely and move some clay around to seal the bottom or drill a well, we'll have to do something before we can stock fish. Good morning. Just found your channel. Seems nice. You sound like a nice couple. I subbed. Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. As a retired plumber I have found it's better to stop the leak rather than turning the water up. Lol Saw one of your comments about investing in clay to seal. Sounds like a good idea. Free run off water always better than paying electric Bill's to keep it full. Keep up the good work. I gotta say, your wife and her quiet mannerisms in this video had me cracking up. Our water well is dug at 220' with a 160' water table and just a couple of farms over, they hit water at 20'...and there are several natural spring fed ponds within a mile of us. Gotta dance with the one you brought, so we're just gonna keep working until we can keep it full. We haven't published the video yet of our rainwater collection system but it's coming. You could have gotten a custom sized liner that was 170 feet long x 120 feet wide and that would have covered the whole pond and still had 4 feet to 6 feet of liner left on each side to anchor the liner.
