Just want to mention I bought this unit from Morne (excellent service btw) and did the setup with Dirac where you can set the crossover frequencies. Even for a 'newbie' like me using Dirac was straight forward and very customisable. Absolutely love this thing. Negatives are a really cheap remote. Menu systems and graphics can really be better.

This remote IS very cheap!

You have to go into the standing wave to adjust crossovers for front Center and subwoofers

I have setup a Pioneer 505 in my lounge (replacing a Marantz 7015)to test and I LOVE IT! Mine works flawlessly , no issues, built quality is good, the sound is fantastic. I think Morne might have a faulty unit, maybe ask Pioneer for a new unit and re do the test? I also have one setup in the cinema so anyone is welcome to come and listen to it. :)

I go back like you do in home cinema back when Dolby Pro Logic reigned supreme and a Pioneer Elite was a thing to behold, but you had to have a big wallet for Elite status. They were very high quality, both on features as well as build quality. I'm okay with plastic vs aluminum if it shaves off $1K (USD) compared to some of the competition who are no better in feature support or audio reproduction, but have a nicer external build quality. 99% of the time it'll be accessed via a remote, so really, if I can get Elite level features like Dirac Live, then heck yes, by all means!

I'm from the US and I found the LX 505 by pioneer a very useful AVR not only that but I bought two of them in an absolute bottom line price that you wouldn't believe directly from pioneer new in the box never used. Sealed And for me it's always about the money how much can I get for the money I I have and the price for two of these in the US about a month ago was 699 each directly from pioneer why they priced them as low as they did about a month ago I have no idea but the price was only there for about 48 hours and then disappeared and then all of a sudden the price jumped up to 1400 each in US dollars.. if you watch things very carefully you'll begin to figure out what the cost is for these companies to produce these items and it's nowhere near as expensive as you might think for them to build box and ship them their profit margins are massive I had seen the LX 505 selling as much as $1,700 in the United States about 6 months ago and from what I've discovered the cost to pioneer to build one of these is between 300 and 350.00 wow.. so the point being is it be patient watch prices fluctuate to their lowest possible denominator only in that happens usually only about twice a year and it seems to be around February March of every year and June and July every year I guess it's only because they have stock that isn't moving fast enough for them.. I felt it so everyone needs to know about this because you can save yourself hundreds if not a couple of thousand dollars on equipment if your patient enough to watch Wait listen and then buy Ed bottom Dollar but it takes the due diligence of a daily routine of scouring the retailers on the internet. Because there are times where these manufacturers will put up a absolute bottom line near their cost price for as little as 48 hours and then they disappear forever another example are Tower speakers floor standing speakers as well as bookshelf speakers and that is that is the same instance as an example.. JBL priced their stage a190 speakers at 199 each delivered for free but that price only lasted about 60 days and now they're selling the same exact speaker for $500 what's up with all of that so again. I implore you to listen watch and be patient and pay only bottom dollar forthe sort of thing and I can prove everything I've said because I've got still shots and video of all the prices I've seen on the internet over the last year...😊😊😊😊

This review isn't particularly useful for people outside of South Africa because of the insane price this is going for there. Knowing how much it costs in the US, I didn't get why this guy kept complaining about aspects of the unit for the price. 48,000 rand is equivalent to about $2850 USD. In the US, this unit sells for $1500, or about half. For almost $3000 USD, I agree with most of his points, at half the price, not so much.

Please explain…

I have a lower model the Elite 304 powered the front stage channel with a 3 channels external amp, For movie and music Pioneer really perform very well but as you said you cant control crossover and for me a big down no independent control for the 2 subwoofer .Also I enable the IMAX ENHANCE feature ,play my bluray diSc of Top GunMaverick and I dont feel any difference in sound vs the regular DTS:X

Same remote as the Onkyo TX-NR7100 with a few button label differences. Maybe Pioneer and Onkyo subcontract the same company for the remotes?

The Pioneer IS a rebraded Onkyo. The last true Pioneers came out in 2015.

I've just bought one of these before seeing this video and I'm already regretting it after about a week. I totally agree that the sound is great. However, since setting up Dirac the sound sometimes drops out. I'm still trying to find a pattern to this fault. It could be after I've paused what I'm viewing on the Sky box and come back after a few minutes. It "wakes up" if I reset the input mode (CBL/SAT) or change the Dirac slot or turn off Dirac.... I'm experimenting with not using Dirac at all to determine if that's the problem. But relaxing in front of the telly is no longer possible because I'm waiting for it to go wrong again. I'm on the latest firmware. I've asked my dealer to talk to Pioneer about it.

Nicely Done. Quick question around 17:45 into the video you talk about using external amps. If I want to use the front 2 channels with a power amp and the rest with the receiver are you saying It won't let me or it just won't turn off those channels for amplification internally ? thanks

Ok so if i remember correctly you need to use the power amp on the ch the receiver specifies to be able to use the additional ch. you can power any but not all extent the functionality of the unit.

On the LX89 you can choose whether to assign the front speakers to an external amp or rear speakers to external amp when extending to 11 channel setup. This is the only pioneer unit where this is possible and also the only true Pioneer unit with HDR and 4K support through HDCP 2.0, Atmos and DTS X.

@Home Cinema King This is now the 2nd time in 2 months this LX505 has unexpectedly shut down, returned in AMP DIAG Mode then returned again with NG L2R2 error code press enter and reads DET Protect I and no matter what I try it just cycles through the same code loop? Any ideas? Any experience? Any suggestions? There is literally, nothing online about trouble shooting. Now am considering a return for refund....

Wouldnt be buying that unit as a demo...LOL its definitely faulty. Had a demo at Vaughan and I have to disagree with alot that is said in this video. In fact if you look around at other reviews on the net this one definitely stands out as one of the only ones thats bad.

Nope my unit is perfectly fine nothing wrong with it. I stand by my review. At this level the things that can not be set is down right stupid and a serious no no. My 2c 3 people i know of that has sent units back demanding a refund.

I bought the lx 305 and returned it. Did not sound good could not adjust bass, mids, treble. NO EQUALIZER. If you are looking for quality, look elsewhere. You won't find it with today's receivers.

I just bought and set up the VSX-LX505 and noticed it does have an equalizer. So is it possible that the 305 does as well.

Damn. This is really bad review. Camera is to far away. Can't see s*it. But I agree on some of the statements. I have LX305. Remote feels cheap. Plastic feels like from some chinese shit. One crossover setting for all speakers is some kind of joke. But no sound issues like reported with LX505.
