Great tips and suggestions. I give this video an A+ for mentioning the gas inspection period. I have never hear anyone mention that. I know a guy who converted his gas to electric and he said he tried to not advertise that as people would want to use his appliances. On the laundry, I was in an Airbnb where the window in laundry room was slid open. I inquired why and was told to allow the leaking gas escape 😆

Thanks for this video and the words of advice. I didn't know I could rent before arriving to Panama. Was that solely between you and the agent? That option would be so much better than having to go to an Airbnb. I would do a 6 months lease to see how it goes. I am landing there in August God's willing in the area of David. Hi I’m planning to move to Panama next year and I believe I am going to need some help from you.
I’m surprised you chose PC among so many expat destinations in the country. Can you explain how you chose to live there?
@AbroadAbility
Жыл бұрын
Sure. I didn’t choose the city due to the number of expats. I chose it becuase I am a city girl at heart and it is an easy landing spot with several things to do if i choose to do them. Inherently, I am a home body but I like options.
Is there mold in the new apts?
@AbroadAbility

Hmmmm. I don’t know about that. It is quite possible considering how prevalent it is here. From what I have seen thus far, most of my friends that have had it are off of the water but others have had it here and there as well.

@@AbroadAbility Hi, I figured it out. I had to open up another bank account with Wells Fargo in order to make the transfer. Thank you.
Awesome video! I've been living in Panama for nearly 3 years now. The mold is a HUGE problem in this country. So many landlords do a crappy job of managing it. I learned this lesson the way when I stupidly signed a lease a couple of years ago (at The Yoo on Avenida Balboa). The landlord & everyone else involved soon revealed themselves to be so incompetent & dishonest I had to back out of the deal. They never bothered to push the issue maybe because I would've gone to court for sure. The Yoo does have lots of nice apartments that are well-maintained, however. Fortunately, I eventually found a good landlord who gives a damn. I currently live in another part of the city.
@AbroadAbility
Жыл бұрын
I think people downplay the mold here for some reason. I am working on the mold video this week. I have heard horror stories with some of the landlords here. As much as they are interviewing us as a potential tenant, interviewing them is just as important. Glad you found a place that you like.

Credit checks are a relatively new thing in Panama. There are companies that provide credit check services but they primarily serve banks and other financial institutions. In most cases, the property owner/manager will ask for reference letters, bank statements, and/or employment statement/agreement (letter from employer).

What’s the best method to bring your money from USA to Panama if I move there airports don’t let you travel with more than 10k
@AbroadAbility
Жыл бұрын
I deposit money monthly into my account here. I still have banks in the US. I deposit cash or personal checks as needed but the checks can take up to three weeks to clear. The atms charge around $6.50 for withdrawals so if you have an account that reimburses internacional fees that is a plus.
Mold? In humid environments a normal thing. That’s why it isn’t a good idea to bring leather clothes to Panama. I gave a very nice leather jacket to my son when he returned home. The jacket turned into a mold catcher every 2 weeks. Don’t bring a lot of clothes you actually don’t need. You just ending up washing the clothes because of the “moldy smell “. I know. Difficult for women. Dishwasher? Try to get dishwasher tabs in Panama. I am cleaning dishes by hand. Right away after I used them. Enjoy Panama.
I have thought about moving to Panama for about 25 years. However, as a Black male I don't want to move to a country where i will end doing menial labour because opportunities are very limited for people like me in these places.
