I am a groomer and I want to thank you for educating people who want these dogs. It’s infuriating to us when breeders misinform people, just so they can sell a dog. The dogs always wind up suffering for it when they realize the maintenance and cost that goes into maintaining that fluffy coat they love. They get angry with US when it has to be shaved. People write bad reviews, drag us all over social media, etc. I’ve been grooming for 15+ years and doodles absolutely changed this industry. People also do little to no training and don’t bring the dog in for their first grooming for a year or more. It is a grooming nightmare. We have to wrestle with the dog and pray we don’t injure ourselves or them, while they’re bouncing all over the table and dragging us through the shop. It’s insane to us. On some of the groomer platforms I am on, a lot of groomers are walking away and they cite their main reason is doodles and their owners. We try to educate and communicate with our clients, but it would be nice if all the breeders would be honest, with the potential buyers, about these breeds being high maintenance. Thank you.

You are so right!! Most doodle owners have very high expectations but don't put in the work. If hey become antagonistic and angry when we cannot comply with their wishes. Breeders please educate your puppy buyers!!

People can be awful. I think the worst kinds of people are often attracted to the breed as more of a status symbol and it has turned into a nightmare for both the dogs and the groomers who take care of them. I have seen many groomers locally that have refused to take on doodles unless they are started as puppies with that particular business or they charge for the actual difficulty involved (basically it's double the regular grooming charge).

I breed standard poodles. I put a slicker brush and metal comb in my puppy packs, as well as literature on how to properly brush at home and a grooming schedule. 😊

Good on you. The breeder of my Westie advised to start grooming ‘whether she needs it or not’ at six weeks, and we are at sixteen years. My groomer caught a skin cancer that her vet missed. Groomers are highly undervalued.💕

I even include nail clippers to get started. I cut nails once a week and introduce them to the dremel before leaving for their new home

I am opposed to the idea of breeding doodles…however, I really appreciate that you put out this video. I hope those who decide to get a poodle mix take your advice. I also think people should look into the cost of grooming before purchasing a dog that requires frequent professional grooming. That’s the one thing this video didn’t mention, though I understand the actual cost varies by region.

I can't tell you how many behavioral and temperament issues I have had in for training that were mismatched breeds. Please stop. People will love a purebred golden retriever or a poodle or a Bernie etc... there is NO NEED to breed these bastardized dogs just for the look of them. It is really sad actually.

@@pnhnut I disagree with your thinking that purebred dogs are healthier than mixed breeds. Broaden the gene pool and lessen inherited health issues. It is heartbreaking for someone to buy a purebred puppy whose parents have passed all the health tests, only to have their new family member develop such health issuess as hip dysplasia, breathing issues, Addison's disease, thyroid Issues, epilepsy, Cushings, atrial septal defects, and hypothyroidism only to name a few. Purebred dogs definitely have more inherited disease than mutts, because of their recessive gene pool. To think otherwise is to be uninformed.

Doodle breeders are not doing genetic testing, or have any scientific data to bar against inheritable trait deficits. So your comment about purebreds versus mutts is off the mark in this conversation about the intentional breeding of doodles. Purebred dogs have decades of history and inherent traits specific to that breed and the genetic gene pool is a different conversation. There are breeders out there crossing Siberian Huskies (a medium size working nordic dog) with a pomeranian (a tiny toy companion dog) ...so what the hell? Does it wake up and have a desire to run and work or does it want to sleep all day on the sofa or is it just a neurotic mess because it wants to do both of those things at the same time and is frustrated and loses its mind? THAT was the point of my comment. Greedy people indiscriminately breeding dogs to sell to the highest bidder based on what it looks like. Rant over...

Grromer for 8 years now. Doodles are honestly all over the place. You never know what you are going to get. Not only size ranging from super tiny to ultra massive, but what they are mixed with can vary too. Earlier generation lab and golden doodles have a lot more variation on coat than later generations. I've meet some goldendoodles that looked like a golden retrieve and others who have a very curly poodle coat. The newer types tend to have drastically different personalities. Bernadoodles and sheepadoodles are some of the most popular in our area right now and some are wild, untrained and aggressive, while some have great personalities and very willing to please and respond to training. But when it comes down to "why groomers hate doodles" for me, and for many groomers I've worked with, its not the dog. We often feel bad for the dog. We see people treat them as property or objects, begging things like "I don't care how expensive it is I want him to be brushed out" to which I have to have a tedious conversation about how its cruel and inhumane. Most people love their dogs and care about how they feel, but I'm not kidding when I say there is "type" of doodle owner who only got the dog for the status symbol. I've had people tell me they don't care it it hurts. Other doodle owners are just misinformed and plenty of them are untrusting of groomers in genera, or there is always the people who can't actually afford such a high maintenance dog and don't get them groomed often and often don't train them. Too many wait until the dog is around a year for their first haircut and then they have to be shaved short and essentially peeled out of their coat because its so matted. And the amount of times I've had people tell me not to "poodle their doodle" and "do a puppy cut". These things mean nothing. Show me pictures of what you want, not just a list of the "dont wants". Honestly it's the owners and the industry around doodles that we find frustrating. There is no consistency, breeders are misinforming the people they sell to and there are far too many breeders who are just out to make money instead of a solid healthy dog. If the culture could change a bit, if doodle owners were better informed, listened to groomers, and if breeders do what this person is doing in this video, actually figuring out the facts of grooming, everyone would be a lot happier. This all being said, I've had some wonderful doodle owners and doodles over the years. If they were misinformed, they were willing to listen, and a good doodle owner does a lot of research. I groom at least one doodle a day, if not more. They are a very large portion of my income and I actually enjoy grooming them when they are well behaved and in good shape. It's just a high maintenance dog and they need a lot of grooming and training. It's not right for everyone and I wish more people did research before getting one.

I completely agree with everything you said!!! Consistency of coat is a challenge when everyone won’t do genetic testing. I’m glad we are able to help get this information out into the world! You sound like an amazing groomer.

This. All of this. I don't do full grooming, but baths, nails, ears and sometimes sanitary trims. Doodles are just all over the spectrum, definitely limit to one a day otherwise id be there all day long

This was great! I know that there are a number of groomers in my area that are refusing to take on doodles. Matting seems to be their greatest concern as well as client reactions when their dood needs to be shaved down. I have also heard complaints of customers having a certain "vision" about how they want the cut to look, communicate it poorly, and take it out on the groomer if their expectations are not met. I believe that it imperative that new doodle parents are aware of their grooming commitment. A daily once-over with a comb doesn't take long...and pups become accustomed to it as a daily routine!

As a former vet tech this 100%. The number of poodle crosses/mixes/doodle breeds that people don’t think anything about grooming until they end up at the vet with skin sores and infections, ear and eye infections, paw abscesses and so on. Trust me, seeing a groomer every 2 months and being meticulous about regular brushing at home is going to be much cheaper and better for your dog than having to keep going back to the vet to deal with issues that are largely driven by bad hygiene.

As noted on another video she has been a breeder for 8 yrs, doesn't groom her own dogs, contributes to the 'doodle' craze of high maintenance dogs of which people are unaware/misinformed, groomer shortage or refusals, etc. Better instructions for daily brushing correctly with tools in each puppy kit would go a long way. Also maybe start providing grooming or aid in finding groomers willing to groom these doodles. Please do the right thing, for the dogs. Only 1 doodle in my area is well maintained, a stbernardxpoodle, I must have influenced them, I have 2 full coated havanese that I groom myself, impeccably, all the other doodles are matted, stinky, sores on their skin, burrs in the ears, feces on their backsides, aggressive in 2 cases(banned from dog park too) I definitely also lay the blame on the owners for not thoroughly researching these dogs and their care. Sorry for the rant again, I'm a retired human med lab tech, and I also deal with horses.

I just hit 31 years of being a groomer and when this breed started it was a nightmare. I now own my on shop and all of my doodles come in monthly and are shaved short with a #5F .I hope people who breed these dogs will educate how important it is to Start out the grooming process early.

So true, they are a lot of work but totally worth it. I have a labradoodle and her hair is more on the curly side, was wavy as a puppy but more curly now. I do her grooming as well now because it's so often. I'm fortunate enough to have a groomer in the family that has showed me how to do it all. Hi Erin, I think overall most dog owners don't realize the cost and time it takes for a good grooming. I had a Samoyed years ago and that was a fortune to keep her clean and groomed. But she always looked beautiful at the end of The Grooming. Bella is such a good girl didn't fuss at all

Thanks to both you and Madison for this info. I was ignorant of necessary time and money cost getting a doodle. My boy is 110lbs curly coat and I've learned to groom him myself. Groomers were booked out 3 months, cost was out of budget and he didn't like going. I home groom him in 3 sessions or it would take all day.

The puppies are adorable and I think that’s all people see when they are looking for a doodle they don’t realize the cost of the grooming and the vet bills …Trust me I would not have changed and thing we did for our girl….if I could have her back….

with all this information available online- google, you tube etc … it boggles my mind that no one seems to remember that doodles- of any kind - are at least 1/2 poodle! And poodles are a constant grooming project. People honestly pay THOUSANDS of dollars for a dog ( hopefully getting it from a reputable breeder)… without considering maintenance ?

All Oodle breeders should be doing groom training of puppies from 4 weeks. Getting them used to baths, clipper and dryer sounds as well as handling. All of my cavoodle pups get this and leave with a full groom to the length the new owner desires.

Groomers don't want to take on a new doodle because you never know what you are going to get. It could be any size or coat type, and you can't trust what the owner tells you.

I groom our F1 mini GoldenDoodle myself due to the cost & the fact no local groomer wanted to take him on! His coat is super curly & does get matted easily so I find it easier to keep him short now. He loves nothing more than rolling in mud & water so it makes keeping him clean a bit easier 😂 The breeder didn't tell us anything about the breed grooming needs, so it was a bit of a learning curve. They are such amazing characters though ❤

I did a ton of research before getting my doodle and try my hardest to do the best I know how and when I’ve gone to my groomer I’ve asked her to tell me if I’m doing anything wrong I never want to put my dog through pain and I’d rather be taught the right way. But when I got him my breeder was giving him bath once a week to ‘maintain’ his curls he was so itchy and had dandruff everywhere. I had one groomer before I moved out of the area she was shocked when she pet him she said “you brush him!”

Thank you and Maddison for a Brilliant and Informative video!!!! As a groomer it’s soul destroying to groom a cockerpoo and or labradoodle your have it not come back for 8,10 or even 12 weeks and when it does you know it’s a matted mess and usually pelted to the skin. The owners then moan they are shaved off short. Sadly some owners just don’t care, don’t understand or want too or sadly just don’t have the money…so it’s about educating them all as often as possible. I’ve got amazing clients now all on a good schedule and my books have been closed for 2 years but recently I took on 2 new dogs (one labradoodle and one cockerpoo) and you’ve guessed it they were pelted to the bone-all over!!! It’s soul destroying to see them in that way and I only get through the groom telling myself I’m helping them by releasing them from their straight jackets!!! Thank you both for being great ambassadors for the breed and your puppy buyers are getting not only amazing puppies but amazing information and that’s what makes us good breeders!!! Ps. Can’t wait for the next litters to arrive!!! When are they roughly due? xx

Thanking you for this video. I'm a groomer and the biggest problem with Doodles is so many breeders tell people buying them they only need to be groomed a couple times a year. I would definitely recommend no more than every month unless really short. Bathing dogs at home will actually do more harm for matting unless the owner brushes and combs out 100 percent and dries the dog completely. For owners that want really long natural coat could use weekly or bi weekly bath and brush at a good grooming shop. This is just my opinion why they frustrate groomers cause usually matted and owners don't want them cut. I understand waiting to get groomed before shots but if you have a small shop or one on one place or mobile groomer even if you could do at 12 weeks would benefit puppy just for a simple bath and brush. That being said really find a good groomer cause as good for a puppy as it is a bad groomer can do harm also. I would also recommend ether you showing puppy owners how to brush properly or there's good videos to show them. One last thing it's easier to brush puppy on a table or something put a non slip rug down and brush on elevated surface it will help them get used to it. And please don't let puppy chew on brushes or tools while brushing it's a bad habit for puppy. Thank you again for being a responsible breeders. Also I see people saying the Chris christensen brush the coarl one is the best that is true if you want a cheaper option the miracle coat brush works great also. Definitely important to have a good one to get job done. Grooming Safer is a good channel to watch if you need grooming videos

Their coats can be so different, too! One of my doodles goes to the groomer every 8 weeks and I barely need to brush him; he never gets matted. My other one, I started as soon as he had all his shots and took him every 4 weeks so he could get used to the groomer, and ended up staying on that every 4 week schedule. I brush him out fully several times a week and also brush out ears, legs, face, almost every day to prevent matting. It's the only way I'm able to keep his coat a little longer. It's a lot, but I knew that going in.

Oh and that Chris Christensen slicker brush you have on your shop page is SO worth the money! I had a cheaper slicker brush and it just doesn't get through the coat as well. Keeping up in between grooms is so much easier with that brush!!!

I did a ton of research before we got our two f1b golden doodles. We have a wavy one that I brush 2-3 times a week, and my curly one a minimum of 4 times a week. It is good for the dogs because it is building a bond with us as we maintain their coat. We also have them groomed every 8 weeks. It is a commitment but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I brush my wavy goldendoodle 2x per week and my curly goldendoodle, Langdon, every other day. Not much matting; only during recovery for being neutered; I checked every morning because of the amount of laying down he did. I tried to educate myself all things goldendoodle while I was waiting (4 months after my husband finally let me get a puppy.... and it was long because I wanted my puppy 7-8 YEARS ago! 😊 My husband finally gave in and 2 months after I got my first puppy, I had another one (Langdon). 🥰

I watch Mary Beth rovers makeover I watch Damon man’s best friend when they get a dog with a lot of hair thick hair basically they cut them first then bathe them easier and quicker to dry then they go back and cut them again for the finishing touch

We self-groom our Shepadoodle (German Shepard and Poodle) mostly but take her to groomers maybe every six months. We live in the south, so we, and she, prefers hair short (almost velveteen) on the body and about an inch on ears, shaped in a shorter bob, longer in front than back, and tail. We needed a F1b, non-shedding, and she has a curly coat.

I know I have a poodle mix dog also with the dreaded curly coat also. I keep her hair pretty short, for her and me because she doesn't like being brushed, she'll tolerate some so I have to do it in sections a little almost every day. I love her to the moon and back but when she decides to "move out" I don't really want a curly haired dog again 😬

GREAT video! Prospective Doodle owners need to be fully apprized of their grooming responsibilities before they get their new puppy home. You'd think that anyone considering bringing a Doodle home would do some research on their own about grooming. I am not a breeder, but I have had a Bichon Frise, and a Standard Poodle. They required constant grooming, and the matting actually causes them discomfort and the problem is compounded if the matted dog gets into burrs or wet etc. I think the hair actually shrinks a bit, and then it pulls on their skin when badly matted or when burrs etc. become entangled in their hair. Early exposure to handling is a must. Older dogs if not groomed early don't like their feet being handled, or standing still on the table. Another thing I learned is that the hair around their behind should be kept relatively short, and cleaned daily so that excrement does not go unnoticed and become "fossilized cling-ons" in their hair. Many thanks, you deserve kudos for doing such an amazing job of educating prospective Doodle owners, and preempting grooming nightmares.

If you start grooming from young the puppies should get used to it and it's up to the owners to keep them from getting matted. That's just responsible ownership. If you haven't got the time then why get one? The McCann Dog Training channel is great for this and showing you how to trim your dogs nails and loads of other training things. I honestly think buyers should have to do a course and get a licence before owning a dog, as too many people think it's like getting a fluffy toy when it's a lot more responsibility and is like having another child.

As a NDGAA certified master groomer of 25 years I have nothing against Doodles but here is why I dont take them, grooms are priced based on time on the table so for instance a yorkie groom takes on average one hour which for me is $80, a doodle based on temperament,and condition of coat as well as cut requested can range from 2.5 to 3.5 hours start to finish on the large doodles if you hand dry which puts a better cut and overall end look so that would make the price at lets go in between the two times at 3 hours that would make it $240 which I cant charge so I do 3 small dogs (easier on my back,lees worn out end of day) and make $240 or one doodle and make $150. Hope this helps people understand.

Totally agree with you not taking on doodles, they are a bad business model, unprofitable. I bet lots of owners don't want to pay what is reasonable for successful grooming of doodles, and I hazard to guess that's another reason why they come in matted aswell combined with little to no brushing by the owners. Another thing I have noticed with neighbors who have doodles they do poor to little training, one is even aggressive. They bought the dog for its 'puppy' looks but forgot about everything else. The playful, athletic dog they all wanted soon becomes the 'too much to handle, destructive' dog'. I hear the story 'I researched doodles', I say 'sure you did' and then see a smelly, oily, matted doodle jumping up on me, nearly knocking me over. Sorry for the rant, I have and maintain 2 full coated havanese by myself. And I am not a groomer, I worked hard to teach myself how to groom them, via YT, reading, trying different shampoos, conditioners, brushes, etc, you would be amazed at their coat, and they are both well behaved.

@@DoodlesofNC No where did I say they were bad, why would you respond with that I was way nicer than some other people I was simply trying to explain from a business owners perspective why a lot of groomers choose not to take them as clients. I love your channel and watch and like your videos ….as a groomer, breeder of pugs and frenchies and a true lover of all things dog and I have a Standard poodle that has shared my heart and home for 13 years. I had no reason to say they are bad just not profitable from a business point of view and hard on the groomers body to control on the table and lift in and out of my grooming van tub thats all. I'm so lucky to have the best groomer for my bernedoodle. Seen her since she was 12 weeks and when she was sick she had a lot of air dried baths with bad shampoo (my husband used dawn)and matted up so definitely needed to be shaved but when I'm ontop of her baths and conditioner she has no Matt's but I leave it completely up to my groomer. I did my research and really I dont mind the "poodle" look. I'm lucky to have a great doggo and groomer.

Before anyone gets a dog they should be doing a lot of research on the breed and realizing the expense and upkeep of the breed. Years ago I had 185 pound Newfie and people use to joke about how much it cost to feed him and I always said his biggest expense was grooming. Because of his size and long thick coat it was very expensive. I had a Great Dane who I bathed myself and he only needed occasional brushing, very low maintenance. Having lost our Dane last year, we decided we wanted another large dog and I debated between another Newfie or another Dane. Both fantastic dogs but when I looked into what it now cost to groom a Newfie and I remembered the incredible amount of shedding, I decided on another Great Dane. And I do warn my friends who are getting doodles that you have to groom them often and start them very young so they get used to it.

Definitely! Any prospective dog owner NEEDS to research dog breeds thoroughly. Cuteness can certainly be a consideration, but these are living animals who need to be cared for in certain ways. Pet selection counseling is a thing too, which can be helpful in getting accurate information about breeds. I love my doodle, but I can't imagine getting one without being prepared for the level of care they need. A lot of doodle owners don't even teach basic obedience training because it's their first dog and the chose a doodle because of their popularity without researching them first.

Hello! Our vet trips are a little different with ultrasounds, X-rays and then their physicals. But minimum for a puppy will be 60-120 would be my guess.

Also, I had never heard of ear hair plucking till my doodle.

My groomer doesn’t do this for our Doodles. Maybe it’s dependent on training?

We’re planning on getting a mini goldendoodle but we are based in Northern California. Is there any breeders that you are able to recommend in that area?

I would just like to say altho 16 weeks to take in to the shop for first groom is ok but you should brush your dog as soon as you get your pup i would say brush daily so the pup gets used to it and it wont be a matted mess when you take it to the groomer for the first time also tuch their feet and nails and hold there chinso they get used to us holding their chins to keep head still

In Australia we call these dogs groodles. Sounds so much better than golden doodles. We have a smooth coat groodle. She looks more retriever than poodle. Much easier to maintain but we have the benefits of the gorgeous groodle nature and personality to boot. Most perfect dog in the world.

Thanks to videos like this, I was more educated when I got my poodle mix (not golden doodle). My puppy only had 1 puppy trim so far at the groomer, and the groomer loves us because I slicker brush her everyday. He said "what you did is great, I wish they all did what you do". Happy groomer = better experience for the puppy.

On another video it is stated that she has been a breeder for 8 years. Also she takes her dogs to a groomer (states she had difficulty finding one), but in the end doesn't do it herself, very disappointing and so wrong in many ways. A breeder should know how to groom their own dog and not contribute to the problem of groomers shortage, or outright refusals to groom them. I feel sorry for the remaining groomers doing this work, I saw Madison's look on her face, tired and not too happy, knowing lots more doodle grooming to come or she'll just turn them away. I fully groom my 2 full coated havanese, one is silky, one is cottony, try Googling that coat. P.S. I am not a groomer.

@@dottyk1637 I agree with you. The doodle breeds are very popular and being pumped out. I know that this breeder loves and cares for all the dogs but the groomers are seeing such problems with coat maintenance. That should factor into breeding. I also groom my own dogs. 1 golden and 1 border collie.

I'm curious about their ear hair! Like in the ears! Numerous groomers haven't cleaned out my sister's doodle's ears of hair. We've even had 1 tell us that wasn't something a doodle needed (which we know isn't true due to ear infections, etc). Do you find your adult dogs have hairy ears (inside the ear)?

Never had Bella’s ear hair pulled, I truly believe ear infections are an allergy to food, try eliminating chicken.

Current veterinary recommendations is not to pluck ear because the micro tears/wounds at the hair follicles invite bacteria, yeast, etc to invade thereby causing infections. You start plucking and infections arise, don't pluck and infections don't start. There are many posts where this is explained in detail. I've never plucked our dogs ears.

It depends on how much ear hair your dog has, some dogs have a ton of ear hair that keeps the inner ear damp, that will cause ear problems.

I get infuriated when I hear the line 'hypoallergenic' doodle, 'fluffy' and nothing is ever mentioned about the grooming requirements. So many matted doodles all around me, no research about how to brush, bath, grooming costs, etc. They look for a mini doodle and get a standard poodle x st bernard, 🤦‍♀️ As a full disclosure, I have 2 full purebred havanese in full coat, ask the neighbors how my dogs look like, impeccably groomed, by myself. I have even bought 4 neighbors specific slickers and combs for their individual dogs to help with their coat maintenance. So much info is available on YT, but most are too busy or lazy. I've even offered to groom the smaller dogs, no one has taken up my offer (but did bath a shiu tzu, best bath ever pet parents said) By the way, I did my research on havanese and I am not a breeder nor a groomer.

Every long haired or fluffy dog needs to be groomed once a month! And she's right: start them out as puppies being groomed! And brushing/combing once a week is a must! I have a Havanese and a Coton de Tulear... and they don't have the under coat that Doodles have.... but they still need to be combed once a week.... those slicker brushes do not get down to the skin like a comb does!

I have 2 full coated havanese, 1 has hair 10in long and extra thick cotton coat too, I use multiple brushes(Madan), slickers(Artero Extra long pin slicker), CC 004 comb, and others too, each time, always use a grooming spray too (never brush a dry coat), no problem with these tools, but most importantly, the secret is to linebrush the coat and recheck every, single, area, for mats and tangles with a comb. 1 takes 10 minutes, other takes 1 hr, daily🤣

And i get my doodle groomed every 8 weeks. Her hair is kept at 1 inch. And I don't have trouble getting the steel comb thru her hair.

@@DoodlesofNC natures specialties Quicker Slicker, The Stuff for Dogs, Magic Touch Grooming Spray by Crown Royale.. I use the stuff.. the concentrate makes several gallons. Then i have my own Spray bottle. Mist lightly before brushing helps not tangle between routine brushing. It does habe silicone and Quicker Slicker doesnt.

You need to brush EVERY day because only groomers are psycho enough or set-up enough to continuously groom on a dog for an extended enough time to brush the whole dog. Go for the problem areas when brushing and have safety scissors to clip out small mats. Neck ears, nose, butt end, legs. Always remove stickers with a slicker brush a.s.a.p. Fine coats mat easier. Also skin problems can cause matting, so avoid pet food with ethoxyquin and feed healthy food. Even pure golden retreivers require brushing out and sticker removal, but after a doodle or poodle they seem easy.

I just wish people intending to buy any doodle or poodle or bichon frise etc would do proper homework on the grooming side. So many of these types of dog are abandoned because there owner cannot cope. This is no way to treat your pet. You should be disgraced with yourselves if you leave them knotted. Do daily and it becames an easy job. Have them cut once a month. If you cannot afford this then do not buy one to begin with. Concentrate on difficult areas first , elbows, inner thighs etc. Slight wave is easier than full curl. Use one of those metals things you pull through the hair. Also a wide tooth comb. If you cannot manage seek help but do not abandon doing it. Mine are done daily after their 1st walk and it takes about 10 mins. Its cruel to the dog if you cannot maintain it and it gets very matted. Think very carefully before buying. Its your duty to keep the dog comfortable.

This is very true! You do need consistency in the brushing technique and the right tools!

I dog sit for a Bernedoodle pup and he’s gentle, smart and joyful! I’m in love! But after 20 years of having Weimaraners, I would not want such a high maintenance dog of my own. I will be more diligent about brushing him in the future!

I have a Goldendoodle service dog 🐕‍🦺 Dunkin. He amazing. I comb Dunkin out twice a day. I keep his hair extra long. I use a Rake. Steel comb and slicker brush. After a walk I blow dry his feet and under belly. A clean well groomed dog is a happy dog.

I honestly think doodles would look GREAT with one of the lower maintenance poodle cuts. Shaved body and shaved face with fluffy head and ears, possibly a fluffy tail. If I was forced to have a doodle this is what I would do. Really don’t like the look of fluffy faces

The slicker brushes they are using are the Chris Christensen brushes… 60-70 dollars. A regular 20 dollar slicker brush isn’t going to help.

I bought a doodle. Bernedoodle. You must buy a Chris Christensen brush. The brush she is using is the Coral G brush. The pins are larger and there are more pins. The big K brush by Chris Christensen big K brush is the one I’m using. Plus a metal comb. The direction of the brushing matters.. the shampoo by Chris Christensen smells so so good…you should put this brush in every going home puppy bag. It’s a life saver. In fact… a starter pack should include all Chris Christensen grooming products. Brushes, combs shampoo conditioner detangled. Makes life so easy. Let me empathize they smell like a million bucks. And feel like velvet.

It’s true. Groomer here. There is a shortage of groomers, partly due to doodles and their owners. People complain about the cuts, the cost, etc. They are a lot of work for a groomer and if they also misbehave and weigh over 50 lbs, it’s a nightmare that some don’t want to experience any longer. They are walking away from it all. Pet parents will write nasty reviews, tell all their friends how horrible we are, and talk crap about us all over social media (saying things like “beware!…..”), all because we shaved their dog. Not one groomer sets out to purposely disappoint a customer. We can only do so much and most won’t demat the dog, because it’s extremely painful for the dog and very time consuming. I think doodle owners should all be required to groom their full grown doodle at least once, before they will understand just how difficult it is.

I'm a dog bather and the saying is don't be a Doodle doodle they pull us around they hurt our hands out of the hundreds we do there is only five doodles that bahaves that I have told them they are not Doodles the are poodles whale in bathing them and drying them ive even haf to stop my work a few times and put the dog away to go help my groomers with doodles that were hurting them and trying to help with doodles while pregnant isn't easy doodles are not all bad but the dogs need to be worked with and the owners needs to be taught more in depth on care

I was so glad God sent me a doodle that is almost a straight coat, because the amount of brushing and grooming they need had me worried. I give mine a bath every couple weeks to a month and he brushes out so easy. I’m so thankful for it.

Doodles are NOT a breed. There is no standard for a doodle. Anybody can put a standard poodle and a golden retriever together and make a doodle. Don't be fooled into calling it anything other than a mixed breed.

@@mikesmith1702 That is a good thing however being a military town we have so many doodles and a groomer shortage and the only groomers that take them here for the most part is PetSmart and Petco. You are very lucky to have enough groomers as I dont take any large dogs and have a 3 page wait list, I have 2 vans on the road and could add 2 more. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!!

why do you breed mutts? Why not focus on poodles/goldens or maybe a Portuguese water spaniel? they already have what these mutts have and more. Is it the money that motivates you to run your byb? The dog in the video has really bad confirmation, with the weak swayed back, big head hanging down. Why breed such a dog?

Why ruin to good dog breeds and create these? They’re not hypoallergenic like breeders say, have a bunch of health and behavioral issues and people who get them only get them because they’re cute🙄 irresponsible breeding

I just read an article in the Australian newspaper, The Guardian,' about the 'oodle craze' so very distressing. Explains the behavior of most of the doodles in my neighborhood. The purebred dogs are all better behaved.

I agree. There is no doodle breeder that is eithical. There are long reddit threads that outline this very clearly and this breeders hits many red flags. Do your research people. Why get a doodle when you can get a poodle!

I am pretty positive there are plenty of pure bred dogs that have terrible medical conditions because of inbreeding and some that are not behaved. It’s not fair to say one or other is only “…..” we all know there are bad trained dogs.

Yet another dog named Bella. 🙄 I'll bet if you go into any dog park in America and call out the name "Bella," at least half the dogs would come running! Folks, don't create more dogs. Let's empty out the shelters first. Then once we get the shelters all cleared out, let the breeding begin. If you insist on creating a market for breeding, then dogs will suffer. They'll be caged. They won't have the human interaction they crave. They won't have the security of knowing they're part of a pack. The could well be euthanized. Now, if that's okay with you, then go ahead and add one more litter of dogs to the world. If you truly love dogs, you'll give hope to those without hope. Rescuing a dog won't change the world, but it will change the world for that one dog.
