    Definitely agree with some tips. Check your fluids as best as you can. My radiator cracked and none of my coolant made it to my engine and it blew a head gasket costing me $4k this month so definitely try to have money saved up (I didn’t). Overall I love my WRX but do the best you can w/ maintenance

    So long as you not adding mods or not doing proper maintenance then you’ll be fine! I’m 37 yrs old and I’ve owned quite alot of Subaru automobiles and I’ve tried it all, and what I’ve found is just baby these performance cars (wrx/sti)! If you wanna mod one, then buy an older model (preowned) don’t spend your money on a new one and start modding it out, only if you have the extra capital to invest. Other than that I have a 03 WRX/STI hatch that has over 180k (original miles) that is still chugging along as I do my daily/monthly/yearly maintenance! That’s all it takes, plain and simple. What they ain’t telling you is if you keep it stock and take care of it, then it will last you damn near a lifetime! (Improper ECU tuning is the main killer of all Subarus)

    You forgot to mention the firewall welds are really bad on our models, like...exceptionally bad like really REALLY bad. I own a MY11 wrx hatch and although mine's not as bad yet, ive already seen my welds ever so slightly bent in. The guy who sold me my very first subaru ever has babied it but trashed the tranny, so that set me back $3k in repairs for a 2nd hand 5SPD, including a new clutch. Nice Subbie you got there btw

    Tip number 5 should be turbo timer then?

  • @jeffarcher400
    @jeffarcher4009 ай бұрын

    Some suggest waiting longer for the warmup. The idle drop happens long before the water,oil and metal equalize. I'm not waiting till the needle moves. It's time and gas for questionable gain. I do think a bit longer than idle drop is better. Till some heat reaches all the metal and the oil is warmer. This should only be needed on the first cold start and anytime it sits till it's stone cold. If the needle is moving I am too. Then there's cooldown. Supposedly you shouldn't just stop and shut it off as it can bake oil in the turbo. This is a huge pain when running errands. Supposedly some new cars continue to oil the turbo after shutoff. Some say it's only important after hard driving but hot is hot. I'm not sure sitting still without air going through the radiator doesn't just make it hotter. You didn't cover the intercooler radiator and separate fill cap or the dipstick under the intercooler. They're there and don't seem to get dirty but I never had any of those before. I've wanted a turbo car for decades and right now I am not impressed. I just leave it running for real quick errands. About the ten grand for repairs. I only paid five so if it blows she's a goner. Ain't hating yet but time will tell if it's reliable enough for daily use or just a toy. Pushy understeer and the e brake is too close and hits my elbow getting in. It is being compared to an old 911,ae86,325 BMW and a Miata so it has it's work cut out. I had high expectations and still do.

    I don't necessarily agree with paying more for insurance. At least here in the US. Mine is listed as a Subaru Impreza on my insurance. WRX is basically just a trim level of an Impreza, so it would likely be the same as a Toyota Camry.

Also confirming all the tips, even my granny Subie is definitely not a performance car 😂 and has similar basic issues.. as any Subaru does

    My advice is if it isn't broken then don't try and fix it. Our turbos are water and oil cooled so unless you have been giving it a belting prior to shutting down then I would let it idle for 30 secs - 1min. For the most part this isn't necessary ☺️

    I don’t really see it as a performance car since it does save way more money on gas than my 15’ mustang gt ( e85 and on3 twin turbo). Maintenance cost motor wise is much more. Besides all that I’m currently looking at a 14’ impreza wrx. To have as a daily instead of driving a TT car all the time making a huge whole in my damn wallet.

    Planning on purchasing a 2011 Wrx. the previous owner did some work to it from what i notice (nvidia exhaust, intake, possibly downpipe since it burbles and pops a bit..not too sure thought to be honest) but it has a Cobb access port installed. I test drove it today and it ran/drove beautifully! Way better than the stock one i drove years back that was the same year. Should I be worried about the mods since I dont know what was done exactly and the dealership doesnt know, even though it ran like a dream for the 35+min test drive?

  • @00Lach

    @00Lach

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey mate, generally I would say if it runs like a dream and you've inspected the car for oil leaks, etc, the gear box feels solid and there's no weird sounds then you're probably okay. With that being said I would say those mods are pretty safe if the car has been tuned correctly. Sounds like it's been tuned by the accessport and thats most likely fine. How many miles/kilometers does it have? Do you know if it's had an engine rebuild or anything? Feel free to send me some pics on Instagram @00Lach

    Hey mate, I drive about 20,000 kms a year and the car is around 100,000 kms in total. These are just a few things Ive experienced along the way to help others before buying a 2011-2014 WRX/STi. Also due to our turbos having water and oil cooling you won't need to keep the car running before shutting down. Unless you've just ripped around the track, this isn't necessary and hasn't been necessary since turbo timers were made redundant in the early 2000's. Cheers
