    Not sure why this is a question. If you can afford it and find a decent example surely ud go for the 328i. 60 in 5.9s 155mph. Decent figures leaving most cars behind and that's without any messing. Heard it has uprated pistons compared to the 320. I'm sure the 320 is good ( I had an e90 320 and it was great apart from the usual leaks). 328 is just that bit faster. Both still sound dieselesque at idle. That's my only criticism. And they are super rarer in the UK ( most are diesels) or 320 petrols

    It’s a lottery even for vehicles 2015+ year. Depends on how well your car was maintained, especially first 10-20k km. I know issues when timing chain was changed at 50-60k km... The safest option - buy 07/2016+ F30 with B46/B48 engine’s.

    I have a 2013 328i x-drive m sport and the engine broke. I haven't torn into it but it's likely a spun rod bearing. I'm having a remanufactured engine installed. Bottom line... DO NOT change the oil on BMW suggested intervals. Do it twice as often. My timing chain is in great shape.

    So, I've started my 11th year into the ownership of my 2006 120d. I know it's a diesel, but 10 years and 200k (km) with me at the wheel that's reliability. It already had 80k (km) from the original owner when bought, so it's now pushing towards 300k (km) and the 2nd timing chain and guides change. I know it's a keeper, because the worst problem I encountered with it was the failure of the AC compressor. Now, I'm looking for something that can handle rougher terrain, and all the X1s I look at have the 2.8i N20 engine. Can I achieve the same level of reliability ?

  • @RADBAVARIAN

    @RADBAVARIAN

    The n20 in the X1's do have more power for sure, that may call for stronger internals like; camshafts, pistons, rods, etc.

    Well, looks like the question is which tune you would like. The 328 has more HP and the 320 is stock at 180 (not including the tune). The timing chain is a huge deal, so that's out of the way. I would go for the 328 and have fun.
