In US news and current events today, the passing of Civil Rights hero and Congressman John Lewis still weighs heavy in our hearts, and as we pay tribute to the great John Lewis, we remember the honors he achieved in his lifetime. In 2011, President Barack Obama awarded John Lewis Presidential Medal of Freedom. The John Lewis Medal of Freedom was to reflect his decades-long fight for civil rights and voting rights, paving the way for our first Black president, Obama. John Lewis was a once in a lifetime icon, a true hero and patriot, and an idol of Barack Obama. John Lewis set the stage for the current Black Lives Matter movement to be what it is today, and as BLM continues to fight for justice and equality, we can never forget the contributions of the great John Lewis.

@@Hirohitorunguard Exactly right. This is not where his message ends. Many people today are living through the sacrifices he put forward and they will continue paving the way for the future generations to do so aswell. Until we have a real, harmonious and more equal society for all. His efforts will definitely not be in vain. The people know he fought the good fight and they will keep moving forward, all the more successful because of it. Thanks to him and many like him, it's now much more possible. In this I believe 💯💯💯💯

Watching John Lewis' Memorial, crying, trying to explain to my 4 year old daughter our history. Explaining to her why THIS man is a true superhero, not like those she sees on TV. But one who is real and has lived every day to change the world, shining the light on 'bad guys'. I am saddened that I didn't learn the depths of historical truths until college. It was a prerequisite, attending an HBCU, but it changed me forever. I will commit myself to making sure that ALL history be taught throughout grade school. As I am disgusted by the white washed version of events taught to me by the system.

may Heaven eternally bless Mr. John Lewis. he is still deeply missed but his fight for equality shall remain like a beautiful tree that grew tall and mighty in spite of all the raging storms that it had endured. his love was pure and could not be contained. so passionate, determined, yet he had such a gentle uplifting soul. he changed and filled the world with peace, dignity, equal rights and freedom. whenever i watch this, it makes me cry all over again. he was so humble and i adore how even though President Obama was younger than Mr. Lewis, he looks at him like a proud Papa. i always liked how Obama expressed his gratitude to the people who came before him and without their sacrifices, he wouldn't be in the White House. i miss Obama and RIP to John Lewis. Blessings, love, respect and gratitude to you. fly free... ✌♥✊🙏🕊...
