I'm not sure about that. I think we can't have one without the other. We need both. There's just way too much red tape when an officer kills a criminal. Remove the red tape and we might just end up in a military state. We'll be like Kenya, Zimbabwe or Congo where the police are feared like a natural disaster. On the other hand if you were to remove the SAPS or privatize it somehow than it'll be SAPF. From a service to a force. It'll be the wild wild west in the south. Something like the United states where the police aim to harrass and kill the public. Just a balanced blend of chaos and order to keep things going for now until we can find a long term solution for the crime and unemployment issues. The goal should be to get to what Norway and Finland are. It'll take time and heeps of effort nationwide on an individual level to have an look forward to this vision.

The law is structured in such a way that you are held responsible for every single bullet that you fire. If you empty your magazine and one of the bullets accidentally strikes an innocent bystander, you are going to regret it in court. That's why gun owners are always advised to get training. So that even if you are angry, you are always in control when holding a gun.

@@zamizam5550 Yes, shooting a fleeing suspect is always something you will be questioned about in court. So if you ever decided to shoot a fleeing suspect, you always have to ask your self, is this suspect clearly going to harm someone else within your vicinity? In this security guard's case, the answer is yes. There are two main points that support this answer. Point 1: The suspect was already fleeing even before hijacking the car, and yet he was still willing to fire shots at unarmed bystanders and violently hijack a car. This shows that just because he was "fleeing" did not mean he was still not an immediate danger. Point 2: You could here a lot of squealing when the camera panned away. This indicates the type of driving he performed was a danger to other drivers around that petrol station. He was a threatening people's lives regardless if it was by a gun or by the car he was driving. Also, the fact that the suspect did not survive, will make the case MUCH easier for the guard to beat since he will not be present to give his own version of events. If however the suspect is a known dangerous person and the security guard does not have a shady background, he might not even have to appear in court. The cops would handle the whole process. But if the suspect was shot by a normal civilian, that civilian would definitely need to appear in court justify to the court that it was self defense.

Shooting one handed. 2 Shooting while running 3. Shooting through glass (glass does weird things to bullets). He may have gotten in trouble for that kill because of these factors with the addition of not being careful about the backstop because those bullets could have hit other people. If the perp wasn't armed, he'll get in trouble for that too.

And I question this integrity having watched this. More importantly to be borne in mind generally and in no particular reference to the above...as people have different toles to play in society however... It is critical to keep away from any accident or crime scene, unless you are a qualified first aider and there is no one else better qualified onsite. Particularly in a medical emergency as noise and jostling will only serve to heighten anxiety and stress for both injured and emergency personal. This is kinda a duty of everyone's. Thank you.

Nope, to me, it sounded like they were exchanging gun fire. If that's the case, he has every right to shoot someone in the back. The law states that "your life or someone else's should be in immediate danger, meaning don't shoot unless you are being shot at". The shooting will be probed (because the old people in our government like spending state resources on stuff that is clearly justified) and he will get away with a slap on the wrist. However, him discharging his firearm in that manner while the perp was fleeing, now that! is what the pensioners will eat up! I wont be surprised if he loses his job and gun permit or convicted because he "Endangered" the public, you see, they will hold him to account for all the slugs that left his chamber. And Grandpa Cele will probably release a public statement justifying why the shooting is unlawful and why harsh steps were taken against the security guard, citing "South Africa is not the wild west, you cant just be shooting, shooting with no concern for other people"

I'm defs not against shooting criminals like this, but it is insanely irresponsible and just plain retarded shooting in the direction where there are innocent civilians everywhere around and behind the perpetrator, any of the shots can easily miss its intended target and hit someone at the back. I've seen saps do this as well, like wth, is common sense when it comes to handling guns not a thing?! In that case it's better to let the guy get away with the car that is probably insured and can be tracked down later or to a more suitable area for shooting than accidentally killing a bystander in the process, now the insurance has to pay out for the damaged car anyway and innocent people were in danger of getting shot.

Mom's working a really crappy cleaning gig cause it's all her matric got her...when your perspective changes and you realize you in a situation where you have nothing to lose you gain empathy...something that South Africans today lack I dont blame them with the crime rates being so high your empathly is automatically dulled, I do blame the government for allowing this to happen and making our people bitter towards one another to the point where you avoid conversation in public. I know I know the guy could have been a really awful fucker who jusy thinks he can take what he wants....at the end of the day his still a human being, someone's child. I firmly believe there is no justification to crime on that level. However with that said that man is a result of the current South African system. People who are found on street corners should be be put to work lord knows we need a stronger military ship them off...railway workers take them on! Boarder patrol let's see it happen! Anti poaching yes please! Give a man a sense of purpose and watch him flourish.
