Watch New Zealand's youngest MP in 170 years deliver her maiden speech

We followed New Zealand’s youngest MP in 170 years as she delivered her maiden speech in Parliament. Subscribe to Re: bit.ly/subscribe-re
At just 21 years old, Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, of Te Pāti Māori, is the MP for Hauraki Waikato.
She talks about whānau, what it’s like being in Parliament, and being authentically unapologetically Māori.
She’s passionate about māra kai (food sovereignty), tātai arorangi (Māori astronomy), and maramataka Māori (the Māori lunar cycle).
“I don't want praise, I want people to keep me accountable, I want people to give me constructive criticism cause that’s how I’ll grow,” she says.
“We are here, we are sailing, we are navigating just like our ancestors once did.”

@@rexguy7823 Firstly, perhaps you could grow some balls and ask "these Maoris" about the Moriori. Regarding the "age to be an MP", do you know that Dame Jacinda Ardern became an MP while she was in her 20's? Can you work out why she kept on being re elected every 3 years between 2008 and 2023? Did her constituents think she was too young in 2011, 2014, 2017, and 2020? That's a lot of times she was re elected, don't you think? And what do you think of the historical result in 2020, when she was really only just hitting 40 ( after being in politics for 23 years, and being an MP for 12 years? Do you think we would've been better off with an older guy like Boris in charge during the massacre and the pandemic? Or perhaps a really old guy like Donald? Or perhaps someone the age of the Aussie prime minister. Do you remember NSW just a few years ago? Do you know the median age of Hana's people in Hauraki- Waikato? I know the answers to all of this because I am a Kiwi and I care. I am not a racist from a different country, with a different religion, who has opinions that don't match any of ours. The median age of Maori in Hana's electorate is 23. She is really in a good position to represent her people. Nanaia Mahuta is a totally awesome leader, but it is the people who decide. Not you. And not me. It is offensive to me how you speak about our Maori people AND our world renowned prime minister who saved around 70, 000 lives. I remember what went on in India. It was not nice. The whole world wished they could be here. I will be watching this wahine toa with great interest. A revival has started. Just because three older racist guys, two with no experience as political leaders whatsoever...are in power, doesn't mean New Zealanders are going to sit back and do nothing.
