10/17/22: Since Mayor Thomas Bradley expired, you people has no issues with non-white mayor's, after him, and they are the reason Los Angeles us in its condition(s). The problem is the illegal aliens crossed the borders in the thousands and not one if you complained. I like Rick Caruso. I remember the good years under Police Chief Bill Bratton. I support the protection of the police department, recruitment and retention. I believe in mental health courts for conservatorship for rehabilitation of the homeless. We need transitional housing for them in centralized locations. Do preserve Northeast Los Angeles and other towns from over build please.

Don't you find it interesting that as a developer Caruso has never built or developed any affordable housing? Never mind the homeless, this man hasn't even developed housing for the average wage maker. I think he would make a good mayor but not sure the he will solve the homeless problem since he's done nothing towards curbing it as of this date. Bass has due to her role as a politician. I'm personally comfortable with either of these candidates winning as I know they've worked together in the past and aren't really that far apart on issues.

Voter turnout in the last ‘new-blood’ mayoral election in L.A. in 2013 was a disappointingly low 23%. Garcetti won. Caruso is hoping for a high voter turnout while Bass will benefit if turnout is low like in 2013.

2013 was nothing like it is now in LA. I think the current state of the city will drive the vote and I sincerely doubt that turnout will be low. If Bass wins, it won't be because of low turnout. It will be because people felt that she would make a better mayor. The same goes for Caruso. I think that Caruso is going to win because people want a change from career politicians. He is a moderate Democrat but, like most decent Republicans, he could no longer stand being a part of the deplorable GOP of today. He also knows that a Republican could never win in Los Angeles.

The voter turnout for this Spring’s primary was 28.5%, with Bass leading Caruso. Caruso, not Bass, is encouraging more of those eligible to vote to register. Let’s all shoot for at least 45% turnout this time. All ppl need to do is fill it out and drop it off in the mail!

We knew that it would come down to these two candidates so a lot of people missed the primary but will hopefully vote in the general. Undecided voter here. i live near the grove for 11 years. I’ve heard so much positivity about Caruso. And also I’ve seen so much progress in the surrounding area. I think Caruso really cares about LA. And with Bass I’ve never really heard of her tbh. Only about her school scandal. Also, Not so much connection with LA’s progress. She lacks authenticity and administrative skill. As a democrat, I try to lean more over her but she just really doesn’t appeal to me. The way she attacks Caruso about his money really bothers me. Caruso worked hard for that. And she doesn’t have the right to question that. All she’s saying is that Caruso is rich. That’s it. I think Caruso is more fit to be mayor. I really think he cares so much for LA. His moral compass is in the right place. 👍🏼

Why is it even relevant what % of homelessness is African ancestry, Latino, European ancestry, Asian ancestry, etc. Homeless is homeless, regardless of ethnicity---I don't see the significance. Are we to treat one group differently (better or worse) than others? Of course not. We need a results based, step by step, roadmap to how this is going to be solved. It will not be 100% solved, nothing is---but 90% is achievable to get people off of the streets, treated, in affordable housing, or incarcerated (yes, if they insist on just breaking the law). Enough of the talk and we need an actionable plan and accountability. Rick Caruso seems to be that straight shooter---not Karen Bass. She talks about that coalition like it has actually worked, seriously?

I went to Hamilton High school in Los Angeles. Same year as Karen Bass. Recently when Harris was picked over Bass for the vice president ticket, Karen did the classic escape goating. She blamed the liberal Jewish students at our high school for influencing her to be at the socialist Castro Level. Her socialist views were too extreme, even for Biden. It's time to return to traditional family values, with esteem for American values.

Why is no one addressing the unlawful detainer courts that evicted hundreds of thousands of people each year adding to the homeless crisis.. So you put these people in housing but then the judicial officers in the courts put them back on the streets sometimes without ever having counsel representation and with evictions now on their records. Why isn't this being discussed?

We are not a socialist country. If you rent a privately owned property, and you don't pay the rent, then you will be evicted. It is the contract you sign. The circumstances of why you don't have the money to pay are not relevant in the eviction decision. If you can't afford to live here, then you should consider moving elsewhere. There are other states that are much, much more affordable than California.

The homeless problem in LA and SF and San Diego are all the same. There gas been over a billion dollars spent in the last 3 years on homelessness on LA alone. The $$$ isn't being spent right. Here is what I would do. I would take 90% of the $$$ allocated and build a HUGE facility in the Mojave Desert away from the big cities. There will be psychiatrists, cooks, job training staff and a jail wing as well for people who REFUSE to be helped. There are 4 types of homeless: 1) Mentally ill 2) Drug addicts 3)working homeless 4) Straight up lazy I would build temporary shelters on the outskirts of town so if they try to leave its gonna be difficult to get their usual areas. After the facility is finished, there will be a sweep of ALL HOMELESS regardless of situation. They all go to the facility and then they are sorted by category. Some will be rehabbed and some won't.. But the key is the streets will be cleaned up. It would take about 12 to 18 months for the facility to get it up to speed.

Caruso was a clear winner. Bass sounds like a politician (in a bad way). Caruso sounds like a doer

On the question the moderator asked concerning "Trust" How do the voters of that city trust a man who only recently switched his party to Democrat because he wanted to run for Mayor, of a predominately democratic city? During an intermission for the musical Oklahoma, a mixed group were talking. One said, "If he wins he will get rid of the human trash and rebuild the downtown area to help civilized people feel safe." Their words, not mine. Another person said, "He is smooth and smart and reminds me of a better version of the person who ran the country for four years." "He was also rich builder, funding his own campaign." Another said, "as long as he gentrify Boyle Heights and use that area for upscale housing, business or hotels, so tourist will feel safe when coming to a show, I like him." The only thing they said about his opponent was, "She had a Latino husband, child, and step-kids and seemed experience, knowledgeable and trustworthy on all sides." Everyone complained about the Latina moderator by saying, "She was whining about racism she felt while growing up going to school." They all loved female moderator Williams. My personal opinion, Bass gave detailed answers to all the questions and knew the issues. Her opponent was a nice respectable businessman who was a little lost on some issues prompting the male moderator to inform and correct him. In particular, the origins of a ballot measure regarding Hotels being compelled to take in the homeless. But he was sharp enough to push back on the male moderator by saying, "I don't want to debate you I'm already debating one person." Overall, it was a decent debate.

I remember the 1992 riots very clearly. Everyone said the right things: Police would be re-trained; local and city politicians promised to invest more in education and add new jobs; developers promised to re-build the infrastructure in underserved neighborhoods, etc. Fast-forward 30 years, and nothing has changed. One could argue things have gotten worse. Caruso should not bring up the LA riots.

Rick Caruso's claim to be "Italian, not white" highlights how absurd racial/ethnic labels can become. "Latino" and "white" are not mutually exclusive categories and neither are "Italian" and "white". One can be Latino AND white, which is why the Census enumerates both "white-Hispanic (Latino)" and white-Not Hispanic (Latino). If Caruso considers Italians NOT "white," how about Romanians (who are whiter than the Hallmark Channel) or South Tyroleans (mostly of German ethnicity AND Italian by citizenship)? Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian, and French are derived from Latin, and NONE of those languages or cultures connote a "race."

I respect Karen being honest that she will raise taxes. I think Rick should differentiate himself by showing how raising taxes should not be used as tool anymore to solve problems. No one opposes paying taxes. Most people believe that government is wasteful and not efficient at managing taxes it already collects. People want their dollars to stretch far and most people understand that a lot of problems are more complex than government to solve. Rick should emphasize his ability to lead regardless of funding. Simply pinning yourself against your opponent as for and against tax raises won’t persuade democrats because according to democrats, their okay with higher income people paying more. Therefore, you must explain how raising their taxes isn’t productive

Well, she's running productive people out of the city with her "honesty"! You'll have to find a way to get illegals to pay taxes they often avoid, you know, because they are illegal and get paid under the table.
