YES!! 2015 250 6.7 with 189k miles on it and 3 NEW valve bodies later, I'm putting in a used 6R140 out of a wrecked truck with 65k miles on it. It has a 3yr or 36k mile warranty. The Clutches are gone. This, in my opinion and budget, is the most economical way to fix the problem. I plan on selling the truck in fall and buying a camper. I have a 2017 to pull the camper with. The bump has been getting worse the more I drive it

I want to say it has even slow shifted from 1 to 2 or from 2 to 3. I normally am able to pause video and write down part numbers. I am going to need to do this to my truck and will need the valve body and seals that don't come with it. Anyway you could revisit your notes for us? Many, many thanks as always!

Well the Trans filter retainer bolts also retain the V/body to the case . I learned the hard way, remove the dipstick before installing pan and I also use an modified trans dipstick with a wiper on it to clean the tube of residual oil so I can get an accurate and faster read on the stick before starting the truck up. These are great transmissions.

Arod, we replaced valve body and associated wiring harness today on 2019 F250. And now it won’t shift into reverse or drive. It’s like it’s staying in neutral. And we got numerous TCM codes such as P0885, P0773, and P0657 just to name a few. I’m guessing a fuse, relay or the TCM itself, but where would you look first based on this info. We were just replacing valve body for a hard shift from 1-2 and 3-2. Thanks so much for any info!

Wipe KAM and Adaptives. Then N, R, N, D pausing for about 4 seconds in between until shift quality is acceptable. Then with the transmission at 185°F, drive the vehicle to 50 MPH with shifts at 1500 RPM. Continue until this is done 5 times. Then repeat the drive cycle with shifts occurring at 1900 RPM 5 times. Yes, I’ve been there one too many times to remember this 😅

Also, I’ve had 2 valve bodies that had strategy codes that were not acknowledged by IDS or the database. Both from a custom builder. Neither valve body functioned correctly and the builder basically threw their hands up and blamed software. That was the last I had that trans in that truck. Back to an OEM unit and shifting as it should.

Should see regular temps but as you work the transmission harder it shouldnt get much hotter and if it does temps will drop fast as you are easier on the vehicle or cruising speed. Alsom got the deep trans pan for more fluid

My 2017 will shift harder than normal once in a while, but not often. Always when upshifting. It's like you let the clutch slip a bit then it grabs. Just a "bump" into the next gear. Maybe once or twice a month. Not sure if it means I am doomed or it's just expecting me to do something I'm not (maybe I let off the pedal a bit, or pushed it harder to get around somebody), but I am not worried yet. Question though. Why did you replace the entire body? I thought we could open them and clean up the passageways and be good. Maybe that's only on older models though.

If I had to guess I'd suspect bore to valve (mechanical) interference delaying the required quick diversion of fluid flow. So in essence for a split second it may be applying pressure to two gears at once. In theory. This could be poor design (warping of the valve body), settled contamination from worn clutch material, pressure bleed over to name a few. I don't think it is an electrical issue with the solenoid. Just a guess

This was my comment too. From working on other hydraulic components, if it fails, it is usually a valve, not the valve body. These are more complex, but the channels and passages will not wear from fluid passing through them. Changing the component is great, but I was hoping for full nerd out level testing to see which part wasn't doing its job anymore. Would the scan tool be able to report the shift pressures real time to help diagnose this?

@FixItPleaseJ I'm here looking for the same thing. The valve body is like and engine. It's a fully serviceable part. It only takes an hour to disassemble/reassemble if you don't know what your doing and reading instructions. It can't be that hard to fix this issue if I could find out exactly what parts have failed. I tried replacing the accumulator pistons with new Sonnax parts but that didn't fix it.

And here I,am again I ,need a tyranny wizard for My 05 F350 DRW that has been making a clunking/ knock when it's needing to downshift from 5th to 4th at around 60 mph and 1800-1900 RPM'S hell at this point it may not even be the transmission since it does it after installing a BD 5R110 and Torque converter. And it when going up a grade. Driveline perhaps, but don't know why a grade uphill climb and not mashing the skinny pedal on the right to force the shift sooner and it doesn't happen. Using The BD Tapshifter and having the ability to hold 4th gear also takes care of it. It's just driving me nuts. Soon I, shall take it to my local Ford Dealership for a drive and see what they come up with. And on my old tyranny I replaced 1 or 2 of the Valves and. Even threw a new Hughes Torque converter in prior to going with the Bd and it was still there. One day when I, do finally get a fix I,will put it the comments. Or if anyone else has had this problem let me know what was your fix.

My 2017 had a shudder while settling in to 4th, under load. Trans gave up finally, had a "hot build" done by a local shop. All shifting is silky smooth, even whilst towing heavy. Except 5-6, 6-5. They're a HUGE flair before settling into 6th. I'm talking, jumps to redline, then SLAAAAMS into gear like a frickin' neutral drop. FROM DAY ONE. "It needs to learn" I was told by the shop's warranty dept. "Give it a bit." 9,000 miles later, I'm dragging 26,000lbs through the Ozark mountains, does a flair, then KABLAM.... Nothing. Not even park. Transition year truck, has a BW4464 transfer case instead of an NP271F. 4464 does NOT have a neutral, meaning.... Ughhhh... Hi, thanks for posting this great video. I am having problems with my transmission again. It's shifting up and down gears hard but randomly; usually between 4th & 5th gear. Supposedly my transmission was fully rebuild and the mechanic told me that the valve body needed to be replaced after taking the transmission apart, which supposedly was done but I am not sure if he did. Anyways, my question is, is there a way to find out if the valve body was replaced? Like checking with an scanner to see if it has been programmed or not or checking with a dealership to see if they can provide me with the original valve body number. The truck is shifting through all the gears without any delays nor grinding which makes me think that if I replace the valve body could solve my problem. What are your thoughts on this. BTW my truck is a 2017 f350 dually with 163,000 miles and the transmission was rebuild 13 months ago (warranty just expired) when it had about 150,000 miles.

Harsh shifts showed up again intermittently.🤦🏻‍♂️ Ford agrees harsh shifting is present and recommended NEW transmission AGAIN! I am confused… Ford transmission warranty will cover it this time. Just over one year left on this transmission warranty though. This is the third transmission and we now have 161k mikes on the truck. What would you do? Since I’ve had a couple random slips, one was pretty bad when I mashed on the accelerator pretty hard. No codes and shifts super smooth any other time. Should I be concerned about mixing the Amsoil with the LV?

As long as you used the Amsoil Signature Series fuel efficient ATF or the Amsoil OE fuel efficient ATF you are fine, it's fully compatible with any LV fluid. Don't use their Signature or OE regular multi vehicle ATF it's for Dex II-III, Mercon & Mercon V and ATF4 & not compatible with LV.

I just called my closest Ford dealership because I’ll be doing this job next week they are surprised that I would need all of these gaskets and seals. What are your thoughts on them do they need to be replaced? Do they come with the valve body? They said they would be special order because they just don’t typically sell them but yet they sell a lot of valve bodies

It will get worse. Mine started in the morning 1-2 or maybe it was 2-3 and only do it once in the day and sometimes it wouldn't do it in the morning. And then it slowly got worse. Like 6 months later it was 1-2, 3-2 and after a bit progressed to 5-6.

Brought my 18 in with 42k miles erratic shifting, Ford dealer updated software..... Still wasn't right. I brought it back in at 58k, they had it for 3 weeks and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it although they did notice it was not shifting correctly but it didn't give a code so nothing they could do..... Now that I'm out of warranty, the truck will shift fine when cold, then after it warms up will go in limp mode with no code, huge delay when put in drive, and usually only has 5th gear. I bought a new OEM valve body hoping that's the issue. I have had a ton of problems with this truck..... New vehicles suck.

There was a comment in the installation instructions that came with my valve body that says “remove the manual valve retaining tube before installing the control unit”. Does anybody know what that means? Because I don’t see it anywhere in any of the online videos that I’ve looked up.

Turned out it was just referring to the plastic cover that comes on the piston on the one side. Apparently most don’t come with it. Mine didn’t.
