That was a very well done video. I wish other folks would do as well and as clear. I've been carrying my vintage bike on a 16 ' Dove tail with a ramp. I tried using a ramp on my truck a couple of years ago and lost it and broke my arm as well as damaging my bike. Gave up on ramps. Not a fan of bike trailer either. The only good one I've seen was made my Uhaul. The others I just don't trust. Small wheels and I can just see them getting happy feet and start that death zig zag. Think I'll try this as well as look at your other vids. I subbed.

Have these black widow version, love them. I use them so much to buy sale and trade as well. Super good ramps

I have had these ramps for ten years. They are great. But the one thing I got that makes thing much safer are TG Tailgate EX Supports. These thing can be put on the tailgate in about 30 seconds. They are a steel bar that replaces the tailgate cables. I have loaded and unloaded a Harley Limited for years, NO PROBLEM.

I have been nothing but impressed with those ramps watching your videos. I bought a trailer with a ramp at 15 which I still have at 51. I like the fact that you aren't stuck pulling a trailer but my trailer has served me well. Paid $500 for it in 1985.

@@JonsMotoGarage Aluminum isn't as forgiving as steel. It will tolerate less repeated bending forces before breaking. Those appear very well designed and fortunately aluminum will let you know if it's getting close to that point by cracking in small amounts first. I would give them a good looking over with a strong flashlight periodically, top and bottom. If possible swap them around occasionally to spread out the heavy load on the center. They very well could last as long as my trailer has, but things happen!

Those ramps are great quality! Pro tips: use a piece of plywood over the tailgate to keep it from getting beat up. Also use a block of wood between the front tire and back of cab. Can go super cheap by walking the bike up and down. You only need one ramp and something to step on like a stool, chair, cooler... 👍 ❤❤❤

I use big boy ramps as well. Love them, they are great. One thing that should be mentioned is tailgate support especially when loading heavy bikes. The OEM support straps can get rusty internally on older vehicles as well as some new ones that live outside all the time. Take a look at DG Manufacturing's tailgate supports for total peace of mind, one mishap with these OEM tailgate straps at the pace your moving up the ramp would not be pretty! Not for the bike, not for yourself and not for the truck.

Hi Jon - it might be in your video and if so I missed it - how long is your ramp? 12'?

Fasten a steel reinforcing plate (preferably stainless) at the top of your tailgate and upgrade your tailgate to something stronger. However the number one thing to do is to reinforce the top of your gate!

I wonder if new trucks with their lightweight (aluminum?) tailgates would have the capacity to handle bigger bikes?

To each their own. I prefer a motorcycle trailer ($20 Uhaul), it’s low, plenty of tie downs, very forgiving. The tall, long ramp to the tall truck with small bed seems like a trap, not very forgiving. Plenty of videos of heavy motorcycles rolling from on high onto the rider.

If you don't want to spend the money for the ramp you actually should but if you don't want to you can back your truck into a drainage area on the side of a road where the tailgate touches the ground and the truck will be there and it'll be going out the other side can you ride the Harley-Davidson right directly into the back of the pickup truck I seen a guy doing it it's very very basic and simple and don't cost you nothing you just got to look around and see where you can do it

Ramps rated at 1500lbs, I wonder what the tailgate cables are rated? I don't think I would trust the tailgate over 400lbs. Thats just me.

I've had sportsters scrape once or twice while loading em. Best bet is to use a curb or incline to decrease the angle of the ramps. Also, if your truck is stock height vs lifted, that will help out.

All of these truck ramps are so dangerous. They could make a ramp with two parts. If you want to load a piece of equipment into the bed, then you pull the ramp out until it tilts down to the ground, as normal. But underneath the tilted ramp is a separate sheet of expanded metal. That part lays flat on the ground and it’s flexible. You pull the sheet of expanded metal foreword until it’s just behind the back tires. When you put the truck in reverse, it drives over the sheet of expanded metal which prevents it from moving. As the truck continues to roll back, the stiff upper ramps would be pulled foreword. so they would slide up and into the bed. There is at least a ten percent chance that this would work.

Can you haul furniture in the rain without it getting wet, without covering it, with those ramps and an open bed? Can potential thieves see your bike and suff in the back of your truck? They can't in an unmarked enclosed trailer. No motorcycle stickers to advertise. Maybe a square dance decal on the trailer. No one wiil be interested.
